Birsa Munda, born on November 15, 1875, in Ulihatu village -- now in Jharkhand -- emerged as a formidable force against British colonial rule in the late 19th century.
Despite having limited formal education, he united Adivasi communities against exploitation by British officials, landlords, and missionaries and led a socio-religious movement to assert tribal identity and rights.
Known as 'Dharti Aaba' or the 'Father of the Earth' by tribal communities, Birsa Munda laid down his life for the cause of Indigenous empowerment and resistance to colonial oppression.
He died at the young age of 25 in British custody but left behind a legacy of resistance that continues to inspire tribal and non-tribal Indians alike.
On November 15, 2024, PM Modi had launched the 150th birth anniversary year of Birsa Munda on Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, visiting Jamui in Bihar where he also unveiled development projects worth over Rs 6,640 crore.
During the event, he released a commemorative coin and postage stamp in honour of the iconic tribal leader.
Speaking then, PM Modi underlined the importance of honouring Birsa Munda's contributions, which had been "ignored for decades after Independence", and said the celebrations were a sincere attempt to bring long-overdue recognition to tribal history and heroism.
The Modi government had declared November 15 as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas to honour tribal freedom fighters and their contributions to the country's independence and identity.

NaMo App Survey On Modi Government's 11 Years Gets Over 5 Lakh Responses In A Day

New Delhi: A survey on the NaMo app to draw people's feedback on a variety of issues to mark the Modi government's 11 years has elicited a sizeable 5 lakh responses within a day of its launch, official sources said on Tuesday. A remarkable 77 per cent of respondents have completed the full survey, they said, adding that it demonstrated a high level of engagement and interest in contributing to this "national dialogue". The state with the most responses is Uttar Pradesh, followed by Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Haryana. Over 1,41,150 responses have come from India's most populated state, 65,775 from Maharashtra, 62,580 from Tamil Nadu, 43,590 from Gujarat and 29,985 from Haryana, they added. An official said, "This unique survey is designed to actively engage people in the democratic process, empowering them to express their opinions on key national issues and government initiatives." Modi announced the Jan Man Survey on Monday, the day he had taken the oath of office in this third term in 2024. It offers a platform for people to directly share their feedback and opinions with the government. The survey ensures that the voices of the people are heard and considered in shaping future policies, the officials noted. The questions asked in the survey seek responses on the evolution of India's approach to counter-terrorism in the last decade, how secure one feels as a citizen considering the government's actions against national security threats, and does one believe India's voice is being heard and respected more internationally among others. It also seeks responses on some of the government's set-piece initiatives like Skill India and Make in India and efforts for women-led development.

India under the leadership of PM Modi is set to become third-largest economy by 2027: UP CM Yogi

India became a global identity under PM Modi: CM yogi Adityanath The Chief Minister further detailed infrastructure development, stating, "Since 2014, over 55,000 km of highways have been expanded. Metro services, earlier limited to 5 cities, are now running in 23 cities, including six in Uttar Pradesh. World-class trains like the Namo Bharat, Amrit Bharat, and Vande Bharat Express are redefining rail travel. Airport infrastructure has also doubled—from 74 airports built in 67 years to 160 airports today. In Uttar Pradesh alone, operational airports have increased from 2 in 2017 to 16 of which four are international airports, while the fifth at Jewar will be operational soon," said the UP CM. CM Yogi credited Prime Minister Modi for giving India a global identity and transforming "service into a pledge, governance into a culture, and security into a priority—marking the rise of a developed, self-reliant New India." He stated that PM Modi believed "where there was technology, there was progress—and where there was a BJP government, there was also welfare of the poor." He added that PM Modi had redefined governance as a medium of service and partnership with the people. "In the last 11 years, service has become a resolution, good governance a culture, and security the highest priority. This is the new India—an India the world trusts," said CM Yogi. The Chief Minister criticised previous Congress-led governments for breaking public trust and damaging India's global image in the 65 years after independence. In contrast, he said, the last 11 years under Prime Minister Modi have provided "a corruption-free, nepotism-free, and appeasement-free leadership." He added that "Modi ji had realised the vision of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat, turned India into a symbol of trust, laid the foundation of a developed and self-reliant nation, and presented a clear roadmap for the next 25 years." CM Yogi reiterated that in the last 11 years, India has carved a distinct identity not just socially and culturally, but also in security, governance, and economy. "Governance today is defined by policy clarity, transparency, and accountability. Development is no longer just a slogan—it now reflects inclusive progress that balances heritage with growth. Every citizen now benefits from government schemes based on eligibility, not identity. 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Prayas' has become the foundation of governance, driven by citizen satisfaction rather than appeasement. The country has witnessed a strong model of zero tolerance for corruption, 'Minimum Government, Maximum Governance' through Digital India, and unwavering commitment to national unity and internal security," said CM Yogi.
