Early signs point to St. John's enjoying unheard-of frontcourt luxury

New York Post07-08-2025
There were stretches in Tuesday's scrimmage when Ruben Prey was St. John's best forward. The most active of the Red Storm's big men, cleaning up the glass, making shots, creating shots for others.

Coming off a freshman year in which he progressed late in the season, the Portuguese forward was impressive. Early on, he blocked a shot on one end and hit a 3-pointer on the other. He finished with 15 points, nine rebounds and four assists, and a plus-33 rating.

Later on, Dillon Mitchell shined as a rim protector, ball handler and finisher. Zuby Ejiofor, the likely Big East preseason player of the year, and Providence transfer Bryce Hopkins also had strong moments.
At least in Tuesday's open practice, the frontcourt has the makings of being elite. Ejiofor, the backbone to St. John's second-ranked defense a year ago, was always the given after his breakout winter. Prey appears to have made a leap.

Now that's a big rock — what we know about Cristiano Ronaldo's gigantic engagement ring

Cristiano Ronaldo has proposed to his longtime girlfriend with a massive diamond engagement ring. The footballer's girlfriend, Argentine-Spanish model Georgina Rodriguez, announced the engagement in a Monday post on Instagram. She posted a picture of her hand with long, manicured nails — and a huge ring. Rodriguez captioned the post, "I do. In this and all my lives," written in Spanish. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Georgina Rodríguez (@georginagio) The central oval-shaped diamond was flanked on either side by two smaller diamonds. Anya Walsh, a jewelry specialist at London-based retailer 77 Diamonds, told The New York Times that she estimates the ring's weight was around 35 carats and costs at least $5 million. Ronaldo and Rodriguez have been dating since 2016. They met when Ronaldo walked into a Gucci store in Madrid, where Rodriquez, now 31, worked as a retail assistant. They share two daughters and raise them with Ronaldo's three children from a previous relationship. Their son, a twin of their younger daughter, was stillborn at birth. Ronaldo, 40, is a Portuguese football player who is the captain and forward of the Portuguese national team and Saudi Arabia's Al-Nassr Football Club. Before joining Al-Nassr, he played for numerous other football clubs, including Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Juventus.

Leeds line up moves for Inter star Mehdi Taremi and Fulham's Rodrigo Muniz as Whites target new strikers to enhance bid for Premier League survival

Leeds bidding to stay in PL Eye Inter striker Taremi Fulham's Muniz also a target Follow GOAL on WhatsApp! 🟢📱 WHAT HAPPENED? According to Leeds United News, Muniz is Leeds' number one target, while Taremi and Norwich City's Josh Sargent are also options being discussed internally. However, the Whites face competition from Atalanta for the Fulham man. THE BIGGER PICTURE After two straight seasons of the three promoted Championship teams going straight back down from the Premier League, Leeds face a big task to buck that trend in the 2025-26 campaign. Whites boss Daniel Farke has admitted his team are "not ready for Premier League level" offensively and urged the club to "add some quality" in attack. Whether they can land Taremi or Muniz remains to be seen and even if they did sign, there is no guarantee they will keep them up, either. DID YOU KNOW? Taremi struggled in his first season at Inter following his 2024 switch from FC Porto. The 33-year-old scored just three goals in 43 matches; a stark contrast from his 91 goals in 182 games for the Portuguese giants. Muniz, on the other hand, has 26 goals in 97 outings for Fulham. WHAT NEXT? Time is running out for Leeds to land any of their top transfer targets as the summer window shuts in less than three weeks. While the Championship winners have strengthened in midfield and at the back, their attack still arguably needs more firepower.

Neemias Queta wants to boost free throw attempts with Boston Celtics, develop 3-pointer

When it comes to potential goals for Boston Celtics big man Neemias Queta in a season his role is set to explode from former levels playing for the team off the bench as a deep rotation options, you probably did not have boosting his free throw rate at the top of your list. But the Portuguese center is hoping to do exactly that, according to the man himself in a recent interview with CLNS Media reporter Bobby Manning. To be fair, it also was not at the top of Queta's list of goals for the coming season, either, when he was asked what he can do better. "I think it's making sure I get in great shape," said Queta. "Go out there and make elite decisions with the ball in my hands and making sure I get great finishes this year." "I also want to raise up my free throw attempts this year," he added. "I just want to be aggressive and make sure I get my percentage up on the free throw line, too." Less surprisingly, the Celtic center also wants to work on his shot from beyond the arc. "I think I always work on the 3s no matter what," said Queta. "You never know when you need one of them and like even if I'm not a great shooter off of the 3-point line, if I'm open, and I have got to shoot it, I will shoot it confidently. You never know it. I want to make them." Listen to "Havlicek Stole the Pod" on: Spotify: iTunes: YouTube:
