Neemias Queta wants to boost free throw attempts with Boston Celtics, develop 3-pointer

USA Today2 days ago
When it comes to potential goals for Boston Celtics big man Neemias Queta in a season his role is set to explode from former levels playing for the team off the bench as a deep rotation options, you probably did not have boosting his free throw rate at the top of your list. But the Portuguese center is hoping to do exactly that, according to the man himself in a recent interview with CLNS Media reporter Bobby Manning.
To be fair, it also was not at the top of Queta's list of goals for the coming season, either, when he was asked what he can do better. "I think it's making sure I get in great shape," said Queta. "Go out there and make elite decisions with the ball in my hands and making sure I get great finishes this year."
"I also want to raise up my free throw attempts this year," he added. "I just want to be aggressive and make sure I get my percentage up on the free throw line, too."
Less surprisingly, the Celtic center also wants to work on his shot from beyond the arc. "I think I always work on the 3s no matter what," said Queta.
"You never know when you need one of them and like even if I'm not a great shooter off of the 3-point line, if I'm open, and I have got to shoot it, I will shoot it confidently. You never know it. I want to make them."

5 games to watch for from Celtics 2025-26 schedule

The 2025-26 regular season schedule is officially here, and the Boston Celtics will kick things off with a home game against the rival Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday, October 22. Although Boston's prospects for next season aren't as promising as usual due to the untimely injury of Celtics star Jayson Tatum and a plethora of roster changes, there are still plenty of dates to look forward to. On December 5th, the C's will have a reunion of sorts at TD Garden with first-year Los Angeles Laker Marcus Smart, who went from being the heartbeat of the Celtics to a key member of their most-hated foe. Then, on January 10th, Boston will welcome the San Antonio Spurs and former Celtics center Luke Kornet. Exactly a week later, the C's will travel down south to visit the Atlanta Hawks, who now employ ex-Boston big man Kristaps Porzingis. Another reunion will be in the works in the new year on January 26th, when the Celtics host former starting guard Jrue Holiday and the Portland Trail Blazers. Last, but not least, the Green Team will face the Golden State Warriors on March 18th. This interconference contest will be particularly emotional if the rumors surrounding Celtics free agent Al Horford are true, as the NBA vet is expected to either retire or join the Dubs this offseason.
