8 new power substations to be built in Belagavi dist

Time of India22-07-2025
Belagavi: In an effort to promote non-conventional energy sources, eight villages in Belagavi district have been selected under the Greenfield Energy Corridor project. As part of this initiative, 110kV power substations and solar power projects will be established in these villages.
This decision was made during a meeting of the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) held in Bengaluru on July 3, and the same was informed to the managing director (technical) of Hubli Electricity Supply Company on Saturday.
The eight villages are Appachiwadi (Nippani taluk), Pamaladinni (Gokak taluk), Saundatti Jackwell (Saundatti taluk), Ganikoppa (Bailhongal taluk), PY Hunashyal (Mudalagi taluk), Muragod (Saundatti taluk), Paschhapur (Hukkeri taluk) and Kenchanahatti (Belagavi taluk) have been selected for the scheme, according to a statement issued by district minister Satish Jarkiholi.
The scheme will be implemented across two phases in Karnataka. These eight substations in Belagavi are part of Phase 2, which has a total estimated cost of Rs 1,036 crore. Through this, KPTCL aims to establish a Green Energy Corridor in the state, supporting the generation of non-conventional energy, especially solar and wind power.
Once the new substations are operational, the load on existing substations is expected to reduce significantly. With rising electricity demand due to an increase in electric pumps and other reasons, the new substations will help meet the increased power needs.

‘Complaints of fraud over 6cr must be filed with CBI'

Lucknow: A bank fraud of less than Rs 6 crore – be it in public or private sector – should be reported to the state police while the complaint of a fraud of more than Rs 6 crore should be filed with the CBI, said joint director of Lucknow unit of CBI, Ashok Kumar. Addressing UP Police personnel during a session on Monday, Kumar said critical elements of criminality were often overlooked or misunderstood. "Banks frequently rely on internal audits or internet-based policy checks to flag issues, without examining the deeper criminal intent behind a transaction or fraudulent behaviour," he said. "Investigating officers and supervisory personnel should not only identify where the mala fide intent originated but also collect legally admissible evidence to support prosecution. Basic regulatory lapses begin right from company registration stage. Often, KYC norms, PAN verifications, and document authenticity checks are skipped — allowing fraudulent businesses to access large loans," Kumar said. "Bank fraud is highly technical, involving complex financial layering and misuse of credit facilities," he said, urging investigators to constantly upgrade their domain knowledge and forensic capabilities. The officer also underlined patterns of misleading Fraud Assessment Reports (FARs) including forged invoices, shallow inspections, fake CA certificates, and loan diversions.

Electrosteel expects growth with Bengal's new incentive policy

Kolkata: Electrosteel Castings, a water infrastructure and pipeline solutions provider, is optimistic that state govt's new incentive policy will be industry-friendly. The CM Mamata Banerjee-led govt earlier scrapped the previous policy, prompting some companies to move court. The Kolkata-based company is also confident that its recent acquisition of Italian valve-maker TIS Service Spa will boost both its revenue and profitability. Sunil Katial, whole-time director and CEO, said the company's proposed ductile iron project in Odisha, with an estimated investment of Rs 3,000 crore, has already been delayed for 8-9 months due to land issue. "We are hoping for a new incentive scheme in Bengal," he said. Electrosteel currently operates three units in Khardah, Bansberia and Haldia.
