Militao and Carvajal suffered ACL injuries earlier this season, keeping them out for the rest of it. Carvajal was a crucial loss for Real Madrid after playing a key role in the team's success for the 2023-24 season. He went on to win the 2024 EURO with Spain last summer.
He suffered an external collateral ligament injury and tore the popliteal tendon in his right leg on October 5, 2024, when Real Madrid defeated Villarreal 2-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu. This resulted in him playing a total of 11 matches for Real Madrid this season.
Militao would suffer a similar injury a month later. On November 9, 2024, he had to be taken off in the 30th minute of Real Madrid's 4-0 win over Osasuna at home. The Brazilian centerback played 17 games across all competitions with Los Blancos this season.
Other Key Returns for Real Madrid
With under four weeks left till the Club World Cup, Real Madrid could also expect the return of another pair of defenders. Relevo reports that David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger will return for the summer tournament.

Rudiger suffered a meniscus injury and had surgery on his knee a couple of weeks ago. His last game played was in the 3-2 loss against FC Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final.
Alaba suffered a rupture of the internal meniscus, which ruled him out of the rest of the La Liga season in late April as well. He last played for Real Madrid on April 23, in a 1-0 win against Getafe. Real Madrid won't count on Ferland Mendy for the FIFA Club World Cup.
Dani Carvajal Hints at Retirement
Dani Carvajal is a Real Madrid legend, but his time at the club could soon be over. His time in soccer could be over as a whole because a new statement from the Spanish right-back reveals his thoughts on his future.

Dani Carvajal: "It's been a long journey. My sports career is already nearing its end. I hope not, but I have to be realistic.'
Dani Carvajal at Real Madrid
Six Champions Leagues
Five FIFA Club World Cups
Four La Liga Titles
Five UEFA Super Cups
One FIFA Intercontinental Cup
Two Copa Del Rey
Four Spanish Super Cups
Currently 33 years old, Carvajal will look to win the newly formatted FIFA Club World Cup this summer with Real Madrid to add another silverware to his successful career at the club.
The Spanish player has won almost everything with Real Madrid, and a win in this tournament could potentially be a factor in Carvajal's decision to retire sooner rather than later.

Former Boston Celtics forward explains decision to return to NBA
Guerschon Yabusele joined the Boston Celtics as the 16th overall pick in 2016. He spent two seasons with the franchise, totalling 74 regular-season games, where he averaged 6.6 minutes per outing. Yabusele had likely made the jump to the NBA too soon, as a result, found himself heading back to Europe ahead of the 2019-20 season. During Yabusele's time away from the NBA, he became a key part of Real Madrid's roster, improving every facet of his game to prove himself as one of the best players the EuroLeague had to offer. Yabusele's improvements were on full display throughout the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he shone for the French National Team. As a result, Yabusele got his second chance in the NBA, earning a one-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers. Yabusele impressed during his return season and has now signed a two-year contract with the New York Knicks. He will likely play a key role in Mike Brown's second unit. During a recent episode of "The Roommates" podcast, Yabusele explained his decision to return to the NBA to new teammates Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart. He also touched on the difference between the NBA game and the European game and his hopes for the upcoming season. You can watch the full podcast episode by clicking on the embedded video above. Can Hugo Gonzalez make a big impact for the Boston Celtics as a rookie?
Hugo Gonzales joins the Boston Celtics at a time when there are plenty of available minutes up for grabs. Joe Mazzulla's roster is entering a retooling phase, with significant roles up for grabs in the front court. Unlike most rookies, Gonzales joins the Celtics having spent two years as a pro in Spain, where he slowly chipped away at Real Madrid's rotation, despite being one of the youngest guys on their roster. As such, there's a chance Gonzalez could have a similar trajectory in Boston, where he starts slow but his overall skill set and professionalism see him earn an important role later in the year. As the 28th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Gonzalez will undoubtedly be afforded enough time to figure things out, especially given his age and the level of competitiveness he brings to the floor. In a recent YouTube video from the "Rik Knows Hoops" channel, the host explored Gonzalez's game, his upside and where he could stand to improve in the near future. He then detailed why Gonzalez could emerge as an important contributor in Joe Mazzulla's roster next season and beyond. You can watch the full episode by clicking on the embedded video above.
