He did finish his time with the Blues with a goal in the hammering of Beal Betis in the Europa Conference final.
But, according to David Ornstein, he is now leaving Chelsea to head back to United.
There was a clause in his loan deal that meant Todd Boehly's team had to sign him permanently.
But after failing to agree terms on him staying, he will go to Old Trafford, for now.
Chelsea are understood to have paid a £5 million penalty to United.
The 25-year-old will now explore his options in the Premier League and Europe over his next move.
It is understood he is not in Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim's plans for the 2025-26 Premier League season.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, he is still set to leave United this summer.
He has been made available by the club for a move away, with the funds made reinvested in the squad.
But, for now, the club are stuck with his £300,000-a-week wages, until he leaves.
Here is why Liam Delap is the perfect striker for Chelsea
Sancho is heading into an important stage of his career, to find a place to settle.
And he will still have hopes of playing for England again in the future.
The Three Lions will head to the United States next summer for the 2026 World Cup.
Sancho will want to be in Thomas Tuchel's plans for that when it comes around.

He scored just three goals in 31 Premier League appearance for Chelsea during his loan.
There was hopes he would stay on and restart his career, but they failed to materialise.
Sancho joined United in the summer of 2021 for around £71 million from Borussia Dortmund.
However, he failed to live up to the huge transfer fee, scoring nine times in 58 league appearances.
He was then loaned back to Dortmund last year, where he bagged twice in 14.
His Chelsea loan came about at the start of last season, but he never truly hit the heights they hoped.

Man Utd appoint new director of football as Ratcliffe oversees major shake-up

The hierarchy at Manchester United has gone through multiple changes since Sir Jim Ratcliffe became co-owner and took control of football operations 18 months ago Manchester United have appointed Jason Wilcox as their new sporting director after it emerged that Sir Dave Brailsford would be stepping back from his duties. The Red Devils had been without a sporting director since announcing the shock departure of Dan Ashworth in November. United had spent half a year chasing the ex-Newcastle chief's signature before co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe axed him after just five months, citing a lack of 'chemistry' and costing the club, who've made hundreds of staff redundant this year, a huge £4million in compensation. Wilcox, 53, was poached from Southampton and arrived as technical director two months before Ashworth. ‌ But now the former Manchester City academy head has been give a new position, one with increased seniority, after impressing Ratcliffe and senior Old Trafford figures, the Athletic report. Wilcox's promotion coincides with Brailsford's decision to step back. ‌ The ex-British cycling chief is the director of sport for INEOS, Ratcliffe's petrochemical conglomerate. Brailsford has been a consistent presence since Ratcliffe purchased his initial stake in the club which has now increased to 28.94 per cent. It's one of several changes to United's hierarchy during Ratcliffe's 18-month tenure. In April, INEOS chief Jean-Claude Blanc stepped down from his position as a director of the club. A regular at matches home and away, Brailsford was involved in the appointments of chief executive Omar Berrada and head coach Ruben Amorim. The 61-year-old carried out an audit of United's football operations and was across the £50m refurbishment of their training ground, Carrington. Brailsford even stepped down as INEOS Grenadiers' team principal to focus on the footballing project. But he'd become less visible in recent weeks, choosing to spend more time in Monaco after becoming a father last year, and will have less of a presence going forward. Brailsford will remain on United's football club board alongside legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson and former chief executive David Gill. Ratcliffe reportedly wants him to mentor cyclist Geraint Thomas, who's expected to be given a senior management position within the Grenadiers once he retires as a rider at the end of this season. Brailsford can also focus on INEOS' other sporting ventures. He was once influential at French side Nice but United's failure to qualify for European football means that he can work closely with them again. UEFA's ownership rules prevented INEOS from being as hands-on as Nice qualified for the Champions League. ‌ Will INEOS bring success back to Manchester United? Give us your prediction in the comments section. Wilcox, meanwhile, will hope to enhance his growing reputation at Old Trafford. "Jason, for me, is a guy at the coal face," Ratcliffe told the Times earlier this year. "He ran the academy at Manchester City. Txiki Begiristain, I know, thought Jason had the best eyes in the club. "Jason knows what'S working, what'S not working in terms of how Ruben's playing, his system, which players he's picking, which players we are going to buy in the future. And Jason's got views on all of those things. And when I listen to Jason speak, I get what he'S saying." Trevoh Chalobah hoping his England career lasts longer than brother Nathaniel's

The Chelsea defender has received his maiden call-up for Thomas Tuchel's squad for forthcoming games against Andorra and Senegal following a successful season. He will be hoping to get on the pitch in the World Cup qualifier against the minnows in Barcelona on Saturday or the City Ground friendly against the African side three days later. His sibling Nathaniel, who currently plays for Sheffield Wednesday, won his one and only England cap in a Nations League win over Spain in 2018, appearing for six minutes and 54 seconds as a late substitute. A post shared by Trevoh Chalobah (@yungchalobah) And Trevoh is hoping that this is just the start for him. The 25-year-old said: 'When I found out I phoned my dad, spoke to my family, let them know, and they were over the moon for me also. And my older brother as well, Nathaniel. He was happy for me also. 'Obviously, him being here also, and to see his younger brother do the same, it was a very proud moment for him. And hopefully I can be here even more. 'It's been a journey for my parents. Obviously, they've seen the highs and lows, and they've been there every single step of the way. It's a good moment for them to share.' Chalobah is one of five Chelsea players in the squad and he knows boss Tuchel well as the German handed him his Stamford Bridge debut. It has been an impressive season for Chalobah as he starred on loan at Crystal Palace before returning to Chelsea to help the Blues to Conference League glory and Champions League qualification, with a trip to the United States for the Club World Cup still to come. He added: 'Individually for me, it's been a very good season. This has been one of my goals, and it's good to share with the Chelsea players. 'It just shows the quality that Chelsea produce and the players, it's good to be here with them also and share that moment. 'They've obviously eased me in here and helped me. As I said, it just shows the quality and the players Chelsea are producing this over the years, it's been amazing. 'I'm here, being called up to England, and it's going to keep carrying on hopefully.' While most of the England squad will be heading on holiday after the Senegal match, Chalobah and his Chelsea team-mates will be going to the US for the revamped Club World Cup. He said: 'This is the time after the internationals you probably want a holiday. But it's going to be physically tough, it's a different environment. 'But it's important, us as players want to be competing at the highest level and playing against very good teams. This is what footballers want to be doing, and hopefully getting a trophy.'
