Dog Gets Back From Weekend Trip—Not Ready To Face Life at 'Normal' House

Adjusting to life after a vacation isn't easy—and as one viral video shows, even dogs can get the postholiday blues.
It has been six days since 10-month-old Atlas returned to his home in Charlotte, North Carolina, and it is safe to say he is far from happy about it. His owner, Jaime Hill, 42, told Newsweek: "Atlas had a blast," at their lake home, and now he is "sad" to be back.
She recently shared a clip on TikTok, and it quickly went viral @atlas.the.golden.boy, racking up almost 600,000 views. The golden retriever can be seen hanging his head down as if he is sad. It seems he is still in holiday mode, wearing his American flag bandanna.
The text layered over reads: "Atlas ever since we brought him back to his 'normal house' after being at a lake house all week."

During the family trip, they went on long "forest walks" and boat rides and enjoyed lake-life treats like frozen watermelon. Atlas went swimming for the first time, ate sticks, and went out on the boat to watch fireworks.
"I was nervous he'd be scared, but he loved it," Hill said.
The caption written in the dog's point of view says: "But I was made for the lake life."
"We are going to try and squeeze in one more trip this summer to take him back," Hill said. "We've now made it a family goal to live on the lake part-time when the kids graduate to fulfill Atlas's dream life!
"I want nothing more than daily boat rides and the lake life for our boy," Hill added.
It turns out that Atlas is not alone. Many owners have commented to say their dog acts the same after a trip to the lake.

One user wrote: "He's like you can force me home, but you CANNOT remove my festive bandanna."
"We took our pups away from the boat after last week and you would think we were enacting war torture tactics on them," posted another, and a third commented: "I don't blame him, I'd have the same depression leaving great to return to normal!"
"My dogs used to be that way. Now they live forever at the lake house," said a fourth, and a fifth wrote: "My dog was living the good life sitting on the porch all day long geese watching or swimming. Now back to 'normal.'"
Still Water Isn't Always Safe Water
While dogs may love the lake life, owners should remember it comes with serious safety risks. Alpha Vet Center in Maryland shared the following guidance for pet owners:
Lakes can conceal a variety of hidden dangers just below the surface.
Toxic algae—specifically blue-green algae (cyanobacteria)—can be lethal if ingested. Look out for green or scummy patches on the water's surface and always respect posted warning signs.
Hazards like debris (broken glass, fishing lines, or submerged branches) can injure paws, entangle limbs, or be accidentally swallowed.
Waterborne parasites such as Giardia or Leptospira thrive in contaminated lakes and can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and fever. To reduce the risk of illness, prevent your dog from drinking lake water, especially near the shore or areas where animals may have defecated.
Boating areas add extra risks from propellers, waves, and limited visibility. Always keep your dog close, and ensure they're easily seen by boaters when in the water.
If your dog develops unusual symptoms after swimming—such as vomiting, coughing, or limping—schedule an appointment with your veterinary clinic.

Beloved teacher dies in 100-foot fall just 2 miles into long-planned national park hike: report
A well-known and beloved Washington state teacher plummeted to his death just two miles into a planned solo backpack trek along the John Muir hiking trail last month, according to reports. Harris Levinson, 61, who taught American studies and theater at Vashon High School in the island town located just outside of Seattle, set out from Whitney Portal in California on June 23 on his way to Yosemite National Park, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Harris Levinson, 61, fatally plunged to his death just two miles into his long-planned trek along the John Muir hiking trail in California. The 61-year-old experienced hiker fell nearly 100-feet into a gully just two miles into the nearly 140-mile trek. His body was recovered by Inyo County Search and Rescue on July 12, according to SFGate. Officials said it appeared the teacher attempted to hike the 'climber's route' up Mount Whitney, which is more treacherous and difficult than the main John Muir Trail, according to reports. Friends of the longtime educator said he had been planning this trip for months and was thrilled to begin his journey. The summit of Mount Whitney where Levinson set off on his trip to Yosemite National Park. Wikipedia 'Folks who connected with him in his final days report that he was joyful, eager, friendly, and full of appreciation for his life and the opportunity to go on this adventure,' friend Carolyn McCarthy wrote on a Caring Bridge page for Levinson's benefit. 'In other words, he was Harris.' 'It is clear that he died upon impact,' she wrote, adding, 'We are grateful to know he didn't suffer.' Levinson was known on the island of Vashon as a talented writer, a theater artist, puppeteer, and sometimes stand-up comic who performed in multiple venues in the tight-knit community, Vashon Beachcomber reported. 'Everyone who encountered Harris experienced his warmth and joy and desire to connect, and these qualities made him a wonderful actor and scene partner,' Steven Sterne, who acted alongside Levinson in a September production of 'The Hatmaker's Wife,' told the outlet. Yosemite National Park is the third deadliest state park in America, with an average of 11 deaths recorded within its limits each year, according to the National Park Service.

The Jet2holidays TikTok Trend, Explained
People are sharing their vacation bloopers on TikTok, set to a UK vacation company's catchy ad. getty If you're a frequent TikTok scroller, chances are the Jet2holidays jingle is already stuck in your head—and Jess Glynne's decade-old Hold My Hand is playing on repeat. But if TikTok isn't your thing, or the viral video hasn't hit your feed yet, you might be wondering: why is Jet2, a United Kingdom-based, low-cost airline and vacation package company suddenly trending? According to a Google trend report today, search interest in Jet2holidays is at an all-time high and the search query for 'what is a jet 2 holiday' has nearly quadrupled in the past week. The surging search interest syncs up with a revived viral TikTok trend: Nearly 16,000 posts (and counting) have been made to the 12-second clip with the Jet2Holiday advertisement sound used in the background, starting off with Glynne crooning 'Darling hold my hand.' The majority of clips feature vacation bloopers that have no connection with Jet2holidays: It's like America's Funniest Home Videos meets the Instagram-era travel aesthetic during the peak summer travel season. Think: Getting tossed while whitewater rafting and bobbing in the river, being catapulted into the air while inner tubing on a lake, or trying to get off a boat, missing the dock and taking an unexpected plunge in the water. Some of the clips reveal disappointing vacation moments, like a hotel room tour when the creator @bben9450 pulls back a window covering to reveal a tiny window. Here's a primer on the Jet2holidays TikTok trend. What is a Jet 2 Holiday? Those in the United States probably had never heard fo Jet2holidays until the sound became a TikTok sensation. But for those in the United Kingdom, the advert for the vacation company is an unrelenting ear worm, with a voiceover exclaiming: 'Nothing beats a Jet2holiday. And right now you can save £50 off per person.' That's £200 off for a family of four, the ad calculates for its listeners. 'This advert is now embedded in the British public's minds after ten years of non-stop onslaught, even being played in nightclubs up and down the country,' writes Hannah Cowton-Barnes, entertainment editor for Tech Advisor. While those in the UK have been inundated with the company's ads, here's a primer for the uninitiated: Jet2holidays offers vacation packages, including all-inclusives, in hotspots throughout Europe, ranging from the Amalfi Coast to Greek islands and more. What's the Jet2holidays TikTok Trend? Your company's jingle going viral on TikTok could be a good thing—it's got people searching for Jet2holidays, afterall. But it's also become an anthem for people making light of their hilarious vacation mishaps that don't have anything to do with the company. Some of the top trending videos include a whitewater rafting trip that turns into bumper tubes, flipping rafters in the water, which has amassed 3.7 million likes and a cruise ship traveler who gets stuck in a waterslide when she loses momentum, the caption saying it prompted an emergency evacuation. While the sound is currently trending, it's not the first time that the company's jingle has been the background sound for vacation-gone-wrong bloopers. Know Your Meme points out the Jet2holidays jingle was used in November 2024, with a TikTok video of out-of-control camels in a desert.
