Al-Nassr rival Newcastle in pursuit of Brentford's Yoane Wissa
As per a report from The BBC, Yoane Wissa (28) has returned to training with Brentford FC, but his future in West London looks far from settled. The forward had attempted to force through a transfer to Newcastle United, in a move that would allow him to take part in the UEFA Champions League. However, as Manchester United learnt, Brentford are canny negotiators, and Newcastle have found their asking price too high. Newcastle are not alone in their interest, and Neom SC and Tottenham Hotspur have also reportedly made contact with Brentford. However, all three may be beaten to the punch, as French media L'Équipe exclusively reports that Al-Nassr are looking to enter the fray. The exact amount that Brentford are looking for has not been disclosed to L'Équipe, but Al-Nassr are reportedly ready to match the valuation and are currently discussing ways to convince the player to swap the Premier League for the Saudi Pro League. Morgan Rogers ankle injury not considered serious, hopeful of return for Premier League opener
Initial assessments indicate the ankle injury Morgan Rogers picked up in Aston Villa's 4-0 win against AS Roma is not thought to be serious. Rogers, who was introduced at half time of the pre-season friendly, was forced to go off just four minutes later after falling awkwardly and being replaced by young academy player, Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba. The England international required treatment, with the club's medical team testing out his left ankle. Advertisement While further tests will take place and a period of rest will be required, the injury is not thought to be serious. Villa begin their Premier League campaign at home to Newcastle United on August 16, with Rogers hopefully in contention to feature. Unai Emery's side defeated Roma 4-0, with Emi Buendia, Jacob Ramsey, Ollie Watkins and Donyell Malen all on the scoresheet. Rogers, 23, played a crucial part in Villa's 2024-25 campaign as they finished sixth in the Premier League and reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League. He made 54 appearances in all competitions, scoring 14 goals and providing 16 assists. He was also called up to the England squad for the first time and has gone on to make six senior appearances, having made his debut in November in a 3-0 UEFA Nations League win over Greece. The Athletic reported in the Transfer DealSheet on July 29 that Villa intend to offer Rogers a new contract to reflect his status as a key player at Villa Park. He has interested other sides in the Premier League, including Chelsea, this summer. Rogers joined Villa in February last year for an initial fee of £8million plus a further £7m in possible add-ons. He has made 70 appearances for the club, recording 17 goals and 17 assists. Villa play friendlies against Marseille and Villarreal on Saturday and Sunday respectively, before their Premier League opener against Newcastle the following weekend. Spot the pattern.
