The man was denied bail and the accused cannot be named at this time
A 30-year-old man accused of attacking his former partner in front of their children at her south Dublin home before "speeding off" in her car has been denied bail.
The unemployed father was charged with assault causing harm, burglary, motor theft and production of a metal bar as a weapon during the incident at the woman's home on the evening of July 18.
Judge White noted at Dublin District Court today that there were no orders in place under the Domestic Violence Act but said he was exercising discretion to impose reporting restrictions.
As a result, the accused cannot be named.
He said a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions and gardaí would recommend the accused face trial on indictment, in the Circuit Court.
The investigating garda maintained that the unemployed man arrived by taxi at his ex-partner's home and entered the property.

The woman was in her bedroom with her children while the accused allegedly grabbed her mobile phone and then punched her with a closed fist to the left side of her face.
The woman then fell from the bed and was repeatedly hit while she tried to get up. The contested bail hearing was told that she managed to get out of the bedroom and went downstairs.
However, it was claimed that the man, who is the father of her children, pulled her back by her jacket and brandished a metal bar from her vacuum cleaner.
Judge White was told that she managed to get downstairs, open a window and "shouted for help". Meanwhile, the accused is said to have stolen €360 and her car key from her wallet.
It was alleged he got into her car and drove away.
The woman suffered "a busted lip and pain to her face, thighs and elbows", and there were photos of her injuries, the court heard.
The car was recovered two days later.
CCTV evidence, not played during the bail hearing, was said to have recorded shouting and roaring and the accused subsequently "speeding away".
Gardaí had also taken statements from the woman, a taxi man and a neighbour to support the charges.
The investigating officer also alleged the accused had evaded gardaí who had checked several addresses until he was found on Thursday.
Concerns were raised that he had drink and drug issues and that he or his family would engage in witness interference.
The defence submitted that the man denies the allegations, has the presumption of innocence and could face a lengthy period in custody on remand.
His barrister also proposed a strict set of bail terms, including movement restrictions and no contact with the woman who did not attend the bail hearing.
The accused claimed, via his counsel, that his former partner had told him she would withdraw the allegations and, instead of jailing him, she wanted him to get help for his problems.
The defence raised issues about the use of hearsay evidence that would not be permitted in the trial.
The judge denied the bail application but granted legal aid and a certificate for counsel. The man was remanded in custody to appear again next week.

Man (58) who got another person to sit his driver theory test spared jail

Mircea Alexe had 14 prior convictions including one for having no motor insurance and another under the Theft and Fraud Act A 'naive' motorist who got another person to sit his driver's theory test which led to him being issued with learners permit has been spared jail. Mircea Alexe, 58, of O'Connell Avenue, Phibsboro, Dublin 7, pleaded guilty to deception by inducing an official to issue a learners permit in the belief that he had completed a driver's theory test to make again for himself on August 14 last. At Dublin District Court, Judge Treasa Kelly fined the married construction worker €300, warning him that it must be paid in three months. Pleading for leniency, defence solicitor Michael Kelleher said that during the COVID pandemic there had been long waiting list for the theory test and he naively made a bad choice. The judge noted that this prosecution formed part of a wider investigation which has led to multiple defendants coming before the courts. Mr Kelleher described his client has the main breadwinner in his family and needed to drive for work and has subsequently sat and passed the theory test legitimately. He added that Alexe deeply regretted his actions and has had this case hanging over him for years. Alexe had 14 prior convictions including one for having no motor insurance and another under the Theft and Fraud Act. Judge Kelly noted some one else had done his driver theory test on his behalf, which sh said could not be tolerated but noted he had taken responsibility on the first day it came before the court. Former soldier who 'used his vehicle as a weapon' to ram motorist is jailed

A former member of the Defence Forces who 'used his vehicle as a weapon' and drove at another male has been jailed. Derek Donegan, 39, left his victim in fear that he was about to be killed in the horror incident that happened in north Louth in April 2021. At Dundalk Circuit Court, the ex-corporal pleaded guilty to endangerment on April 25, 2021 and was handed a two-and-a half year sentence. Judge Dara Hayes ordered him to serve an identical term after he admitted assaulting his partner causing her harm at a friend's house in Dublin in July last year. The court heard Donegan, of Hyde Park in Dundalk, Co Louth, who has 14 previous road traffic convictions, had an alcohol and cocaine problem. He has quit drink and drugs and has reconciled with his partner. The court previously heard that on Sunday, April 25, 2021, a Seat Leon was rear ended by a Ford Connect van driven by the defendant on the Ballymascanlon roundabout in Louth. Both vehicles pulled over and the drivers got out. Donegan apologised for driving too close but showed no concern about the damage. As the victim took photos of the damage and looked for insurance details, Donegan drove at him, hitting him with his van below the knees. The court heard the victim landed on the bonnet but was 'dumped' onto the road and feared for his life. Donegan sped off and the victim drove after him. When he pulled alongside, the thug rammed his car into a ditch. The victim asked bystanders to call gardai and was treated in hospital for cuts and back pain. In the other offence, he and his partner were leaving a friend's house in Erne Terrace in Dublin where they had drinks. An argument broke out and she told him to go back to Dundalk. However, he walked towards her and struck her in the face. She was treated at hospital for pain and shock. The woman then made a statement of withdrawal to gardai and said she and Donegan have reconciled. In sentencing, Judge Dara Hayes said: 'In the endangerment offence he used his vehicle as a weapon and sought to flee after he struck the injured party's car. 'An aggravating factor for the assault is that it was inter-partner violence and Section 40 of the Domestic Violence Act states to take specific account of that and a higher sentence is required than otherwise. He imposed a total of four and a half years for both offences with the final 18 months suspended and banned Donegan from driving for five years.
