Burmester claims LIV Golf Chicago in three-way playoff
Burmester lost a two-shot lead at the start of Sunday's final round with three straight bogeys but rallied late for an even-par 71 to finish on nine-under 204.
The South African birdied the 16th to regain the lead, only for Rahm (69) and Ballester (69) to birdie the 18th to force a playoff. On the 18th in the playoff, Ballester and Rahm both missed birdie chances from the 12-foot range.
"The moment after the emotion of trying to win a golf tournament, there's nothing sweeter than that," Burmester said.
He then opened up more about recent struggle.
"I've been going through a bit of a rough time, personal stuff, and I've just been grinding and trying to get better … After three bogeys in a row to start, I was like, fudge, I don't know where I'm going. The head was nowhere," he said.
"But I just kept at it, and Jason, my caddie, was just phenomenal. He was just like, we never give up. We're not going to give up. We've been through too much crap to give up."
Burmester won $US4 million for his second LIV Golf victory. He also won in Miami last year.
Marc Leishman was the leading Australian, tied for 13th at three under after a closing 70, with Lucas Herbert (73, one under) tied 25th, Cameron Smith (69, even) tied 29th and Matt Jones (75, five over) tied 49th.
There also was a team playoff, with Burmester's Stinger team including Louis Oosthuizen, Branden Grace and Charl Schwartzel beating Torque GC for the team title while the Ripper GC team comprising the four Australians were tied eighth.
Joaquin Niemann tied for 17th to remain ahead of Rahm in the individual points standings. Niemann has never finished in the top 10 in LIV Golf except for his seven victories.

South African spinner reported for suspect action on ODI debut as Zampa punished for swearing
South African spinner Prenelan Subrayen has been reported for a suspect bowling action after his debut one-day international, as Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa was reprimanded for using an audible obscenity in the same match on Tuesday night. Subrayen, who returned 1-46 in South Africa's opening ODI win over Australia in Cairns, was cited by match officials over concerns with the legality of his action. 'The match officials' report specified concerns about the legality of Subrayen's action,' the International Cricket Council said in a statement. The 31-year-old has two weeks to undergo an independent assessment at an ICC-accredited laboratory but can continue bowling until the results are known. With the second ODI in Mackay on Friday, South Africa may opt to rest him to avoid further scrutiny. Subrayen's action has been questioned before. Cricket South Africa deemed it illegal in 2012 before he was cleared in 2013 after adjustments. He was also reported in 2014 during the Champions League T20 in India and again in 2015. Subrayen took the key wicket of Travis Head, which triggered a major collapse and saw Australia lose 6-29 on their way to a surprise 98-run loss.

Proteas spinner Subrayen reported for suspect action in Cairns ODI
Don't miss out on the headlines from Cricket. Followed categories will be added to My News. South African spinner Prenelan Subrayen has been reported for a suspect in his team's opening ODI win against Australia in Cairns putting his place in the remaining two matches in jeopardy. It's the third time the off-spinner has been reported after his action was first deemed suspect more than a decade ago in 2012. The 31-year-old, who was making his ODI debut for South Africa on Tuesday, took the key wicket of Australian opener Travis Head and finished with 1-46 in his 10 overs. But post-match, officials were concerned about the legality of his bowling action. Subrayen will now have to face an independent assessment of his action at an ICC-accredited testing facility within 14 days. But under ICC rules, he is allowed to continue to bowl until the results of the tests are confirmed. The South Africans have already lost star paceman Kagiso Rabada to injury with two more games to be played in Mackay on Friday and Sunday. Prenelan Subrayen celebrates taking Travis Head's wicket. Picture: Saeed Khan / AFP Subrayen made his Test debut against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo this year despite long-time scrutiny over his action. Tests showed his action was illegal as far back as 2012, but he was cleared to bowl again in January 2013 after retesting. He was them reported twice the following two years during matches before he was eventually cleared to resume bowling in March 2016. Australian spinner Adam Zampa also featured in the umpires' report after the match in Cairns. He was reprimanded for swearing over a stump microphone. Zampa loses a demerit point on his record and if he loses three more he would face a suspension.
