Brightside Cafe & Deli reopens after crash causes two-week closure
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Just 15 days after a car came through the front of their business, the Brightside Cafe & Deli re-opened Tuesday to serve customers.
On the morning of April 28, a driver fell asleep at the wheel and went through the front of Brightside. There were no injuries in the crash, but the cafe had to close down for repairs. Now, the restaurant is happy to welcome diners back.

'It's great to be back again. Two weeks was a long time to be down. Thank God everything is getting fixed up, and we're getting back. Everything's getting put back together, and just to be up and running is awesome,' said Liz Lopez, manager at Brightside Cafe & Deli.
The front entryway is still under repair, so diners have to use the side door. This week, their hours have been reduced a little to 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Part of roof collapses during fire at Dakota City boat dealer
DAKOTA CITY, Neb. (KCAU) — On Friday morning, local fire crews responded to a fire in Dakota City, Nebraska. Around 5 a.m. Friday morning, Dakota City Fire Department personnel were called to a fire at 1909 Broadway Street in Dakota City, which is a local boat dealer business known as Cimmarina Boats. Crews found the roof of a building on fire when they arrived, and a section of the roof collapsed while they were at the scene. South Sioux City and Homer fire crews also responded to assist in firefighting efforts. No one was reported inside the building during the fire. Further investigation will determine if the building needs to be red-tagged or if it's safe to re-enter. Power to the facility is cut off at this time, and the cause of the fire is unknown. 2025 Norfolk Area Big Give brings community together and raises more than $200K
NORFOLK, Neb. (KCAU) — The Norfolk Area Big Give has raised $233,571 for local charities. The goal of the event is to bring the community together and support local organizations. It also tries to share resources throughout the area and help groups connect with one another. This year, from Thursday, May 15, to Wednesday, May 21, the Big Give raised funds for 27 charities through 1,593 donations. 'The Norfolk Area Big Give is one of my favorite times of the year,' said Big Give Committee Chair Libby McKay. 'Over the years, our goals have evolved to focus even more on celebrating and supporting the collective impact of all nonprofits in the Norfolk area. By expanding the giving period, we've created more opportunities for organizations to share their missions and for the community to engage in a meaningful way. I feel that it is invigorating to see how the community comes out to support its nonprofits; it's one of the best examples of how every donation, no matter the size, can truly make an impact.'
