Altuve and Melton each have 3 RBIs as Astros beat Twins 10-3
HOUSTON (AP) — Jose Altuve and rookie Jacob Melton drove in three runs each as the Houston Astros jumped on Chris Paddack early and cruised to a 10-3 win over the Minnesota Twins on Friday night.
Paddack (2-6) tied career highs by allowing 12 hits and nine runs — eight earned — in just four innings for his third straight loss.
Houston rookie starter Colton Gordon (2-1) gave up six hits and two runs with five strikeouts in a career-high six innings.
Jeremy Peña tied a season-high with four hits and rookie Cam Smith had two hits and two RBIs as the AL West-leading Astros won their third straight.
Willi Castro, Royce Lewis and Ty France all hit solo homers for the Twins, who were blown out for the third time in four games after losing to Texas 16-4 Tuesday and 16-3 Thursday.
Lewis, who missed the start of the season with a hamstring strain, pulled up as he was running to first base on a single in the ninth inning and was replaced by a pinch-runner. There was no immediate word on his injury.
The Astros got to work early in this one. The bases were loaded with two outs in the first when Smith hit a two-run single to center field to make it 2-0. Melton followed with a single to right field to drive in another run.
There were runners on first and third with one out in the second when Altuve's double scored two to make it 5-0.
The Twins loaded the bases with two outs in the third but Carlos Correa grounded out to end the threat.
Melton hit a two-run triple with no outs in the bottom of the inning to push the lead to 7-0. A sacrifice fly by Mauricio Dubón made it 8-0.
The Twins got on the board with Castro's two-out homer in the fourth inning.
Altuve homered to left-center to start the bottom of the inning and make it 9-1.

EDMONTON – Driving the Florida Panthers attack in the playoffs is a player in his NHL prime and another acting like he is. Sam Bennett, 28, and Brad Marchand, 37, continued to be a lot for the Oilers to handle in the Stanley Cup final in Florida's 5-2 win over Edmonton on Saturday to take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series. Marchand scored twice Saturday — Florida's first and third goals — to reach half a dozen goals in the Cup final. Florida's second goal of the game was Bennett's fifth of the Cup final and his NHL-leading 15th of the post-season. The Panthers can close out the series at home Tuesday and become the first back-to-back Stanley Cup champions since the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020 and 2021. A new ingredient for the Panthers this post-season, however, is the five-foot-nine, 180-pound Marchand, who Florida acquired at the trade deadline after his almost 16 years with the Boston Bruins. Marchand's six goals was the most by any player in the championship series since Esa Tikkanen in 1988. Marchand, from Halifax, seeks the second Stanley Cup of his career after lifting the trophy with the Boston Bruins in 2011 at the age of 23. He reached another two Cup finals with Boston before he was dealt to Florida this winter. When asked what the 2011 edition of Brad Marchand would say to his 2025 version, he replied 'man, that guy's good looking.' Prince Owusu scores twice, Montreal snaps 5-game winless skid by beating Dynamo 3-1
HOUSTON (AP) — Prince Owusu scored two goals in a three-minute span, Jalen Neal added his first goal of the Major League Soccer season and CF Montreal beat the Houston Dynamo 3-1 on Saturday night. Montreal (2-11-5) snapped a five-game winless streak during which the club was outscored 16-6. Owusu nearly lost the ball while fighting off a defender near the penalty spot before he rolled a left-footer into the net in the 30th minute. Then, on the counterattack in the 32nd, Owusu slipped in front of defender Femi Awodesu and went up high for a header — off an arcing entry played in by Aleksandr Guboglo, the 18-year-old's first assist in MLS — from the centre of the area that made it 2-0. Columbus Crew 2, Whitecaps 1: Diego Rossi scores go-ahead goal to beat Vancouver
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Diego Rossi's ninth goal of the season capped the scoring for both teams in the first half and the Columbus Crew beat the Western Conference-leading Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 on Saturday. Columbus (8-3-7) won for the first time since May 3 when it beat Charlotte FC, 4-2. Vancouver fell to 10-2-5. It was the Whitecaps' first MLS loss since a 3-1 defeat against the Chicago Fire on March 22. Rossi scored the final goal in the 23rd minute as the Crew took advantage of a Vancouver turnover deep in its end. It was the second-fastest regular-season goal in the Crew's history. Daniel Rios scored in the 6th minute from the middle outside the box off a pass from Mathias Laborda to level the score. The Crew reached the back of the net three times in the second half, but the apparent goals were wiped clean due to offside calls.
