New Saudi embassy building inaugurated in Moscow
RIYADH — Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan inaugurated on Saturday the new building of the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in the Russian capital Moscow.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulhadi Al-Mansouri, Deputy Minister for Political Affairs Dr. Saud Al-Sati, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Russia Abdulrahman Al-Ahmad, and Deputy Minister for Projects and Assets Eng. Khalid Al-Rumaih, along with a number of ministry officials.
Upon arrival at the embassy, Prince Faisal unveiled a commemorative inauguration plaque and toured the new premises to view its facilities and departments, following the completion of its furnishing works.
The opening of the new building comes as part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' ongoing efforts to provide modern and distinguished real estate assets that reflect a strong commitment to delivering high-quality services to citizens and visitors abroad. This initiative is part of a broader vision aimed at enhancing diplomatic performance and boosting the operational efficiency of Saudi missions worldwide.

The summit is being attended by partner countries and guest countries invited by the presidency, as well as international organizations. The discussions focus on global development efforts, including climate issues and the fight against pandemics and diseases. As the Chair of BRICS, Brazil is focusing on the theme, 'Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance'. Initially comprised of Brazil, the Russian Federation, India, China, and South Africa, the recently expanded alliance now also includes Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The BRICS countries convene for a BRICS Leaders' Summit annually. Discussions also focus on spheres of political and socioeconomic coordination, in which member countries have identified business opportunities, economic complementarities, and areas of cooperation.

Ukrainian drones disrupt Russian air travel, transport minister fired
MOSCOW — Russian President Vladimir Putin fired his transport minister on Monday following massive disruptions of Russian civilian airspace caused by Ukrainian drone raids. The Kremlin provided no specific details or reasons for the dismissal of Roman Starovoit, who had served as the governor of Russia's Kursk region before being reappointed transport minister in May 2024. However, his firing comes after almost 300 flights were grounded at major airports over the past weekend due to the latest Ukrainian drone raid. On Saturday and Sunday, 485 fights ended up getting cancelled, according to the Russian federal aviation agency, Rosaviatsiya. In total, from early morning on Saturday until Monday morning, some 1,900 flights were delayed due to what the agency referred to as 'airspace restrictions imposed on airports in central Russia.' Kremlin-controlled outlet Komersant reported that the disruptions cost the airlines over 200,000 euros. While Russia has intensified its aerial attacks against Ukrainian civilians and residential and energy infrastructure, Kyiv is targeting Russia's military sites and war infrastructure. On Saturday, Ukraine's military general staff said that Ukrainian forces struck the Borisoglebsk air base in Russia's Voronezh region. Borisoglebsk is believed to be the home base of Russia's Su-34, Su-35S and Su-30SM fighter jets. The Kremlin reported that Russian air defence shot down eight Ukrainian drones headed for Moscow late on Sunday, out of a total of 90 UAVs overnight over Russian territory, the Black Sea and Russia-annexed Crimea. Most of them were downed over the border regions near Ukraine, but three were also destroyed over the Leningrad region, including the regional capital of St Petersburg, the ministry said on Telegram on Monday. Kyiv's drone campaign has already disrupted civilian air travel in Russia several times. It is a further testament to the Saudi Media Ministry's commitment to supporting local production and promoting national content. Konoz Initiative The Saudi Media Ministry launched the Konoz Initiative in January 2023, as one of the Human Capability Development Program's initiatives under Vision 2030.
