Raksha Bandhan 2025 Shubh Muhurat: When To Tie Rakhi On August 9? Know The Auspicious And Inauspicious Timings
Raksha Bandhan Shubh Muhurat: Raksha Bandhan is a cherished Hindu festival that honours the deep bond between brothers and sisters. Celebrated with heartfelt emotions across India, this special occasion represents love, protection, and lifelong commitment between siblings.
On this day, sisters tie a sacred thread known as the Rakhi around their brothers' wrists, wishing them health and happiness, while brothers promise to stand by and protect their sisters always.
In 2025, Raksha Bandhan falls on Saturday, August 9, coinciding with the Purnima Tithi (full moon day) in the Shravana month as per the Hindu lunar calendar. This timing is especially important as it plays a significant role in deciding the most auspicious moments for performing the rituals.
What is the muhurat of Raksha Bandhan 2025?
The Raksha Bandhan thread-tying ceremony, known as Rakhi Bandhan, is ideally performed during the Aparahna Muhurat, which refers to the late afternoon period according to Hindu time division. For 2025, the most favourable time for the ceremony begins at 5:47 AM and lasts until 1:24 PM, offering a generous 7 hours and 37 minutes window.
Raksha Bandhan 2025: Best Time To Tie Rakhi
The most auspicious time to tie Rakhi on August 9 is from 6:03 AM to 2:54 PM, with the Aparahna period — considered the most ideal — falling between 1:41 PM and 2:54 PM.
This year, there's no need to worry about Bhadra, the inauspicious phase, as it ends before sunrise, according to Drik Panchang.
It is essential to note that Bhadra, an inauspicious period, will have concluded before sunrise on this day. Hindu scriptures strictly advise avoiding rituals during Bhadra, as it is considered an unfit time for beginning anything auspicious, including tying Rakhi. Since Bhadra ends early this year, the day remains favourable for celebrating Raksha Bandhan without concern.
Purnima Tithi Timings
Begins: 2:12 PM on August 8, 2025
Ends: 1:24 PM on August 9, 2025
Hence, rituals should ideally be performed on August 9, post-sunrise and before 1:24 PM, after the Bhadra period is over.
Raksha Bandhan 2025: Shubh And Ashubh Muhurat
In addition to the main ritual timings, several other auspicious muhurats enhance the spiritual energy of the day.
The Brahma Muhurat starts early at 4:22 AM and ends at 5:04 AM, followed by Pratah Sandhya from 4:43 AM to 5:47 AM.
The Abhijit Muhurat, considered highly effective for all sacred activities, occurs between 12:00 PM and 12:53 PM, while the Vijaya Muhurat is from 2:40 PM to 3:33 PM.
In the evening, the Godhuli Muhurat lasts from 7:06 PM to 7:27 PM, and the Sayahna Sandhya continues until 8:10 PM.
The day concludes with the Nishita Muhurat, observed from 12:05 AM to 12:48 AM on August 10.
However, it is equally important to be aware of inauspicious periods that should be avoided for performing rituals.
On August 9, the Rahu Kalam falls between 9:07 AM and 10:47 AM, and the Yamaganda Muhurat runs from 2:06 PM to 3:46 PM.
Additionally, the Gulikai Kalam is observed from 5:47 AM to 7:27 AM and Dur Muhurtam spans from 5:47 AM to 6:40 AM.
These timings are traditionally considered unfavourable for beginning any important or spiritual task.

1 2 3 4 Patna: CM Nitish Kumar on Saturday tied a rakhi to a tree at Rajdhani Vatika in Patna to spread awareness about environmental conservation on the occasion of Rakshabandhan and 'Bihar Vriksha Suraksha Diwas'. Nitish also planted a sapling in the popular park located on Strand Road in the state capital. Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary, environment, forest and climate change (EFCC) minister Sunil Kumar, additional chief secretary of the department Harjot Kaur Bamhrah, Patna divisional commissioner Chandra Shekhar Singh and several other senior officials were present on the occasion. The state govt has been observing Bihar Vriksha Suraksha Diwas since 2012 to protect the state's green cover and safeguard the environment. The practice of tying rakhis to trees on Rakshabandhan was initiated by Nitish in 2012. "The main purpose behind observing Bihar Vriksha Suraksha Diwas is to make people aware of the environment, encourage them to protect trees and take an interest in planting as many saplings as possible. Plantation drives are being carried out on a large scale under various schemes, including the Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali Abhiyan," said a communique issued by the chief minister's office. Trial run of 4.5km-long freight train held from UP to Latehar
Ramgarh/Daltonganj: The East Central Railways (ECR) on Friday carried out a successful trial run of a 4.5 km-long freight train from Uttar Pradesh to a railway siding in a coal mine in the state. Named 'Rudra-Astra', the freight train had 354 box wagons and was pulled by seven locomotive engines. It chugged off from the Ganjkhwaja railway station under the Deen Dayal Upadhyay railway division in Uttar Pradesh and covered 401 kms at a speed of 40 km an hour, officials said. Rajhans Singh, divisional traffic manager of ECR at Barkakana, termed the trial run a success. "It was a combination of six normal freight trains consisting of 59 wagons each. This will go a long way in revolutionising coal carriage," he said. The train travelled up to Sheopur coal siding in the border of Latehar and Lohardaga districts through Nabinagar, Japla, Garhwa, Daltonganj, Barwadih, Latehar, and Tori. "It will go a long way in improving logistic efficiency, freight loading and reducing overall rake turnaround and transit time as Dhanbad division has been at the top in the country in terms of earning revenue with freight train operation for the last four consecutive financial years," Singh said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Most Luxurious Hotels in the World Learn More Undo Railway officials in Tori said the train travelled up to Garhwa Road railway station and onwards to Phulbasiya coal siding on Friday night, where 118 wagons were broken. Only legal heirs liable to maintain childless senior citizens, rules Kerala high court
Kochi: A person who merely possesses the property of a childless senior citizen has no maintenance obligation unless that person is the legal heir or relative of the senior citizen, the high court has held. Only the legal heirs/relatives, as defined under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, are responsible for maintaining an elderly person who has no children, a bench of Justices Satish Ninan and P Krishna Kumar clarified. The court was considering an appeal filed by S Sheeja from Thiruvananthapuram challenging a single bench order that upheld the maintenance appellate tribunal's decision directing her to maintain an elderly woman, on the ground that she was in possession of land the woman had gifted to her nephew, who was Sheeja's late husband. The elderly woman had executed the gift deed in favour of her nephew in 1992, as she had no children. The nephew died in 2008, and the property devolved on his wife, Sheeja. The senior citizen then claimed that Sheeja was bound to maintain her under Section 4(4) of the Act, leading to the litigation. Both the tribunal and appellate tribunal accepted the senior woman's contention, and the single bench also upheld that decision. The division bench, however, noted that under the Act, the maintenance obligation of a childless senior citizen lies with their 'relative', defined as a legal heir who must have sufficient means to maintain the senior citizen and must be in possession of the senior citizen's property or stand to inherit it. The court clarified that a person who is not a legal heir of the senior citizen cannot be treated as a 'relative' under the Act merely because they are in possession of the property. In this case, the bench found that Sheeja was not a legal heir/relative of the senior citizen and therefore had no maintenance obligation under the Act. Accordingly, the orders of the tribunal, appellate tribunal and single bench were quashed. However, HC left it open to the senior citizen to pursue any other remedies available under law for an alleged violation of the terms of the gift deed.
