Rakshabandhan
and 'Bihar Vriksha Suraksha Diwas'.
Nitish also planted a sapling in the popular park located on Strand Road in the state capital.
Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary, environment, forest and climate change (EFCC) minister Sunil Kumar, additional chief secretary of the department Harjot Kaur Bamhrah, Patna divisional commissioner Chandra Shekhar Singh and several other senior officials were present on the occasion.
The state govt has been observing Bihar Vriksha Suraksha Diwas since 2012 to protect the state's green cover and safeguard the environment.
The practice of tying rakhis to trees on Rakshabandhan was initiated by Nitish in 2012.
"The main purpose behind observing Bihar Vriksha Suraksha Diwas is to make people aware of the environment, encourage them to protect trees and take an interest in planting as many saplings as possible. Plantation drives are being carried out on a large scale under various schemes, including the Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali Abhiyan," said a communique issued by the chief minister's office.

Pavithra Utsavams conclude at Kanaka Durga temple in Vijayawada
Vijayawada: The three-day Pavithra Utsavams at Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam concluded on Sunday with the grand Poornahuti ritual, drawing thousands of devotees to Indrakiladri. The special celebrations, held from August 8 to 10, coincided with a Shravana Adivaram (Sunday in the holy Telugu month Shravana), adding to the festive fervour as devotees from across the Telugu states flocked to the temple to seek the blessings of Goddess Kanakadurga. Temple Executive Officer V.K. Seenanayak and his wife participated in the Poornahuti ritual and offered a variety of herbs in the Homa Gundam (holy fire). Sthana Charya Sri Shiva Prasad Sharma, Deputy Chief Priest Sri Kota Prasad, and Vedic scholars led the rituals with traditional chanting. From early morning, heavy crowds thronged the temple. EO Seenanayak personally monitored the arrangements, issuing instructions to staff to ensure smooth darshan for devotees. Special measures were taken to speed up the ₹500 darshan queues, with alternative routes arranged for easier access to the lift facility. Large numbers of devotees participated in religious services including Suryopasana, Chandi Homam, and Laksha Kumkumarchana. Free prasadam distribution continued throughout the day, along with Anna Prasadam for visitors. With the conclusion of Pavithra Utsavams, temple authorities now focused on conducting Samoohika Varalakshmi Pooja on August 23, 2025, in which thousands of women are likely to participate. 50,000 houses in Goa will be regularised over next few days
Panaji: Over 50,000 houses will be regularised in the state in the next few days following the three laws passed in the recently concluded monsoon session of the Goa legislative assembly. Chief minister Pramod Sawant said that under the flagship initiative 'Majhe Ghar', state govt has undertaken several 'bold, compassionate, and people-centric' reforms to ensure every Goan family can claim this fundamental right. Sawant said that under the Goa Land Revenue Code (Amendment) Bill, 2025, homes built on govt land before Feb 28, 2014, by landless, long-term residents can now be regularised. Class-I occupancy will be granted, with up to 400sqm (plinth+2m buffer) allowed. 'A strict no-transfer clause for 20 years. False declarations will invite legal penalties. This ensures security of tenure to those who have built and lived with hope but without rights,' Sawant said. 'A total of 24,270 families will benefit from the law, including 22,086 Goan families and 2,184 non-Goan families.' On the regularisation of houses on encroached comunidade land, Sawant said through the Goa Legislative Diploma No 2070 (Amendment) Bill, 2025, govt has inserted an article allowing the regularisation of dwelling houses built on comunidade land before Feb 28, 2014, by landless individuals. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Do you have a mouse? A total of 19,259 families will benefit from having houses on comunidade land, including 14,302 Goan families and 4,957 non-Goan families. ' On the Goa Regularisation of Unauthorized Construction (Amendment) Bill, 2025, Sawant said that the bill opens a new two-year window for applicants who missed previous deadlines or faced rejection. Consent from co-owners is no longer needed, and area limits have increased to 600sqm in rural areas and 1,000sqm in urban areas. 'Structures on regularised comunidade and govt land are now eligible. CRZ dwellings built before Feb 19, 1991, are included,' Sawant said. 'A review mechanism is also introduced to streamline decisions and avoid delays.'
