Two of the biggest icons in the history of pro darts will do battle for what could be the final time Monday at the 2025 World Matchplay.
Three-time world champion Michael 'MVG' van Gerwen is a minus-230 favorite over his role model, Raymond 'Barney' van Barneveld, at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.
The Dutch legends have faced each other more than 50 times, including in the semifinals of the 2017 PDC World Championships, which was eventually won by van Gerwen.
Although neither van Barneveld nor van Gerwen is at the height of his powers, they both possess the ability to play at an all-world level, and will have this tournament circled as the perfect time to get their acts together.
For van Barneveld, this also could be his last real crack at glory.
The 58-year-old has already retired once, and earlier this year he announced plans to slow down his schedule.
For van Gerwen, this tournament simply has to go well.
'Mighty' Mike has lost seven of his past nine matches and is in danger of losing touch with the top players in the world like Luke Littler and Luke Humphries.

This match, against his friend and hero, should be the spark that van Gerwen needs as he tries to win this tournament for a fourth time.
MVG should be able to raise his level against van Barneveld, who has been losing to some soft competition of late.
The Play: van Gerwen -2.5 legs (-110, DraftKings)

Spencer Jones flirting with ‘untouchable' status after latest power display by Yankees prospect

Spencer Jones may cool off at some point, but that time is not yet here. The surging Yankees prospect continued his ridiculous heater, crushing three home runs in his first three at-bats Thursday afternoon with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, giving him 13 home runs through 19 games since being promoted from Double-A. Jones seems to be playing his way into 'untouchable' status entering the July 31 trade deadline, as long as the Yankees think at least some version of this hot streak is for real. If not, the 24-year-old outfielder is only raising his trade value by the day. Of course, assuming the Yankees hold on to him at the deadline and Jones keeps dominating Triple-A, the question may soon become whether Jones is forcing his way to The Bronx. But as the Yankees currently are constructed, there is no lane for him to get playing time as they already have Trent Grisham and Cody Bellinger playing center (where Jones has spent the bulk of his career) and Bellinger and Jasson Domínguez in left. 3 New York Yankees outfielder Spencer Jones #78, hitting a 2-run homer in the 6th inning of a Spring Training game on February 22, 2025. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post There is some belief the Yankees might be open to moving Domínguez for the right return, though that may be a long shot. Scouts have credited Jones for closing some holes in his swing this season — he still was tweaking it during spring training and early in the season before settling on what an AL scout described as a 'mirror image' of Aaron Judge — which has turned into a huge year as the left-handed slugger has re-established himself after a so-so 2024. 3 Jones has 13 home runs through 19 games since being promoted from Double-A. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post 'I will say that I think he's really made some nice adjustments this year,' an NL scout said this week. 'He's gotten back to trying to use the field a little bit more, not trying to pull everything, not trying to lift everything and hit home runs and let his strength and athleticism play, not force the issue, which I think he tried to do all year last year.' The Yankees are likely to have a new reliever or two by 6:01 p.m. next Thursday. 3 Jonathan Loáisiga #43 of the New York Yankees reacts after giving up a two-run home run during the 7th inning. Charles Wenzelberg/New York Post But regardless of how much help they receive in trades, getting Jonathan Loáisiga straightened out is one of their top priorities in order to have their best bullpen. CHECK OUT THE LATEST MLB STANDINGS AND YANKEES STATS The right-hander owns a 4.91 ERA, giving up seven home runs across 25 ¹/₃ innings. He has not been a reliable option in the late innings, yet the Yankees need to keep using him there because they do not have many better options outside of Devin Williams, Luke Weaver and Tim Hill, who cannot pitch every high-leverage inning every day. 'We got to get [Loáisiga] in spots in the order where hopefully he can be successful, but we need him to be successful for this to work, especially with some of the attrition we've had lately with the bullpen,' manager Aaron Boone said. 'The stuff is where it is when he's been at his best. That command or putting it where he wants, that's where he's got to get better.'

(Photo by) The 2025 version of the Noche UFC fight card is scheduled for Saturday, September 13, at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas. Headlining the fight is what promises to be an exciting featherweight matchup between recent UFC title challenger Diego Lopes and the surging Jean Silva. The UFC recently announced the first nine bouts for the Noche UFC fight card. Noche UFC Fight Card: Official Fights Diego Lopes (26-7) vs. Jean Silva (16-2): Featherweight Tatianna Suarez (11-1) vs. Amanda Lemos (15-4-1): Strawweight Raquel Pennington (16-10) vs. Norma Dumont (12-2): Women's bantamweight Claudio Puellas (13-4) vs. Joaquim Silva (13-6): Lightweight Edgar Chairez (12-6-0-1) vs. Alessandro Costa (14-4): Flyweight Rafa García (17-4) vs. Jared Gordon (21-7-0-1): Lightweight José Daniel Medina (11-5) vs. Duško Todorović (12-6): Middleweight Jesús Aguilar (11-3) vs. Luis Gurule (10-1): Flyweight Montserrat Rendon (6-1) vs. Alice Pereira (5-0): Women's bantamweight Noche UFC Fight Card Date: Saturday, September 13, 2025 Noche UFC Fight Card Location: Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas Noche UFC Tickets: On Sale on Friday, July 25 Noche UFC Main Event: Diego Lopes Vs. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images) Diego Lopes (26-7) is the No. 2 fighter in the official UFC featherweight rankings. Lopes joined the UFC in May 2023, dropping his promotional debut to Movsar Evloev via decision. Lopes followed that setback with five straight wins. A win over Brian Ortega at UFC 306 earned Lopes a shot at the vacant UFC featherweight title against former champion Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 314 in April of this year. Lopes dropped that fight by decision. After his loss, I wrote: "In my preview of this fight, I said that this matchup was too fast, too soon for Diego Lopes, but that it would prove to be a good learning experience for him. The fight essentially played out in that manner. "Lopes was a game fighter throughout the 25-minute affair, but he didn't make adjustments. His game plan was to move forward, pressure Volkanovski and land with power. That's not a bad game plan for 99 percent of the UFC featherweights, but Volkanovski is an outlier, and as such, Lopes was not fully prepared for the level of fighter he faced on Saturday night. 'With this fight behind him, I expect Lopes will be better in his next title fight, and there will be a next title fight for him.' At Noche UFC we find out what Lopes learned from facing one of the best to ever compete at 145 pounds. DENVER, COLORADO - JULY 13: Jean Silva of Brazil reacts after his TKO victory over Drew Dober in a ... More lightweight fight during the UFC Fight Night event at Ball Arena on July 13, 2024 in Denver, Colorado. (Photo by Josh Hedges/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images) A member of The Fighting Nerds team out of Brazil, Jean Silva (16-2) joined the UFC in September 2023 when he scored a UFC contract thanks to a decision win over Kevin Vallejos on a Dana White's Contender Series card. Silva extended his winning streak to eight straight with his win over Vallejos. Vallejos, who signed with the UFC following a 2024 DWCS win, is the last fighter to go the distance with Silva. Since his DWCS win, Silva has picked up four knockout victories, one submission and three straight fight-night bonus awards. Silva is coming off a dominant performance at UFC 314, submitting Bryce Mitchell in the second round. After his win over Mitchell, UFC commentator Joe Rogan said Silva, 'looks like a world champion.' Silva enters Noche UFC as the No. 10 ranked featherweight. We will have more on the upcoming Noche UFC fight card as the UFC Fight Night event approaches, including previews, odds, and predictions.

Moses Moody On Golden State Warriors' Potential For Another Title: ‘We Got A Really Good Opportunity Ahead Of Us'

Moses Moody is optimistic the Golden State Warriors can win a championship with the addition of ... More Jimmy Butler: "We got a really good opportunity ahead of us." (Photo by Tayfun Coskun/Anadolu via Getty Images) Anadolu via Getty Images It can be sometimes forgotten that Moses Moody is a key member of the Golden State Warriors' rotation. The 23-year-old swingman just completed his fourth season with the Warriors, averaging career highs across the board with 9.8 points and 1.3 assists in 22.3 minutes per game on 37.4% from beyond the arc. Those numbers came shortly after Moody signed a three-year, $39 million contract extension just before the start of the season. Moody is the fourth-highest paid player on the Warriors' roster entering the 2025-26 season. "I've learned a lot, experienced a lot more," says Moody in a one-on-one interview of the biggest difference between him now and his rookie season. "When you're drafted at 19, you've a year removed from high school, there's a lot that you don't know about basketball, and a lot that you don't know about the world -- a lot that you don't know about yourself. through this time, I've been able to really slow down and kind of figure a lot of that stuff out. That's some of the biggest growth years of your life. Being able to experience stuff has been a big difference." Moody spent just one year at the University of Arkansas before emerging as a first-round draft pick for the Warriors in 2021. The 6-foot-5 swingman is originally from Little Rock, Arkansas and helped the Razorbacks to an Elite Eight appearance in his lone season there. Moody was named the SEC Freshman of the Year and an AP Honorable Mention All-American after averaging 16.8 points as the team's leading scorer during the 2020-21 season. He won a championship as one of the team's players in the rotation during his rookie season. It was Golden State's fourth championship during the Steph Curry and Draymond Green era. The Warriors have had difficulty in getting back to that level, advancing to the semifinals twice since and missing the playoffs during the 2023-24 season. Klay Thompson and Kevon Looney — two long-time Warriors staples — have since departed and Jonathan Kuminga could be on the way out. In other words, Curry, Green and Moody could be the only players remaining from that team entering the 2025-26 season. Moody says that he has a greater "appreciation" for winning a championship now that he's a veteran who has been through multiple playoff runs. "When everybody was asking me my rookie year, 'How does it feel to win a championship the first year?' I was saying, 'I really don't know, because I've never lost. I've never tried to win it and didn't get it at that point.' Now I see what that means, what it means to win a championship, how hard it is to win a championship. It definitely raises my appreciation." Moses Moody Speaks Highly Of Jimmy Butler Addition: 'He Plays Ball The Right Way' The Warriors are obviously now reloaded following the addition of Jimmy Butler, a multiple-time All-Star who has previously led the Miami Heat to two NBA Finals runs. Golden State was a significantly better team during the second half of the season after trading for Butler, going 18-2 with him and Curry in the lineup. Golden State defeated the No. 2-seeded Houston Rockets as the No. 7 seed in the first round before falling to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round. However, it's worth noting that Curry suffered an injury in Game 1 and was sidelined for the remainder of the series. Had Curry never been injured, there's a real possibility the Warriors would have defeated the Timberwolves. That would led to Golden State possibly playing a spoiler role against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals. "Yeah, it had that feeling," says Moody of the Warriors making a deep run had Curry never been injured. "I don't know what ranking we were in the league at the point at the All-Star break, I don't know what that would have been, but the feeling we had felt real familiar when it comes to that championship run." Moody speaks glowingly of the impact Butler had on the team, with the 35-year-old averaging 17.9 points, 5.9 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game after he was acquired by the Warriors. A full season with Butler and Curry next year should show the Warriors' full potential. It's a year where Moody should continue to see an increased role, especially if Kuminga departs. "Yeah, it's really cool playing with Jimmy Butler just because he plays ball the right way, and he plays to win," says Moody of Butler. "He wants to win. I respect his game, I respect the way he moves. As you can see, I like to win too, and that's what started happening once he got here. He's always looking to find and get people involved. I just think we got a really good opportunity ahead of us." Moses Moody Hosting 3-Day Weekend Event In Hometown Of Little Rock, Arkansas The four-year veteran is keeping busy during the dog days of the NBA offseason. Moody will be hosting a three-day weekend event starting Friday, July 25 in his hometown of Little Rock, Arkansas alongside his Warriors teammate, Green. The duo will be hosting a youth summit — tailored for boys and girls ages 12-to-15 — and a fireside chat where the two veterans will be sharing their basketball stories. "First, we have Draymond coming to town to do a fireside chat with the city," says Moody of the weekend's events. "We got a lot of people coming out just to provide that access and let them see somebody that they've seen on TV, because it has a distance effect. When you see somebody on TV, it doesn't seem real. But seeing them actually here in your town, being able to talk to them, ask questions, provide that access, is going to be really cool. I just hope everybody has a good time with that one. It can be inspirational in a way as well." Moody says he's been hosting the weekend event over the last three or so years, with Thompson being a guest a couple of years ago and Rich Paul — the agent for Moody — being a guest last year. To top it all off, he's also been named a Board of Director at the NBPA Foundation. "On Saturday morning, we're going to have a camp which is just an experience for kids, for young people to have that same access and touch and see NBA players," says Moody. "It feels a (different) way when you actually are able to look somebody in the eye and see that they're a real person. Because you for me, when I was young, I didn't have that experience with as many NBA players — you're just only able to see them on TV. Just to have that camp and have them walking around, have us walking around, will be really impactful for them."
