Wrexham keeper Arthur loves pre-match engagement with fans

Okonkwo has become a real fans' favourite during his two seasons at The Racecourse and he is now preparing to make the step-up with the Reds to the Championship. The goalkeeper originally joined Wrexham on loan from Premier League giants Arsenal during the opening stages of the 2023-24 League Two campaign and he has fully embraced the pre-match interactions he has with supporters. Okonkwo told Amanpour and Company: 'I've seen both sides to it. I was at Arsenal and the season I had with the first team, you were literally escorted everywhere you're going. 'You don't see the fans. We have security everywhere and I think that's a special thing that's at Wrexham at the moment. 'You know, you come in before every game, we sign everyone's stuff and, you know, you feel good about it. 'It's really special to be able to engage with the fans before the game and that's something you don't really get, obviously, higher up the levels and... I hope it stays like that. 'Being able to engage with fans as much as we can, it's always a special feeling.' Two other fan favourites - Steven Fletcher and Mark Howard - have departed the club following the League One promotion-winning campaign and executive director Humphrey Ker says bidding farewell to players is tough to do. He said: 'Really, the cruellest irony of this whole thing is that the success that these players deliver for the club creates a huge challenge for them, in terms of their ability to continue with the club as it goes up through the levels. 'With Arthur, he's a young player, he's got unbelievable potential. He's already a fantastic player. 'So, he's someone that, I think has a very long future with the club if he so chooses and if we can hold on to him, you know, if he doesn't go and get signed by Real Madrid! 'This summer, we said goodbye to, in particular, Steven Fletcher and Mark Howard. 'Chomp, as he's known, Mark Howard is someone whose been with us from the National League all the way up. He's had three promotions in a row. 'Fletch has had two promotions with us and they're not only fantastic players, but they're great people. 'I mean, a huge basis of the success that we've enjoyed as a club has been the quality of not only the player, but the person that the manager's been able to bring in and it's brutal. 'It's really, really tough. I mean, it's such a tight-knit group. It's such an incredible dressing room. 'That character is really the most valuable thing that we've been able to unearth. The individual players, great players, great value in terms of transfer fees and wages, and all that sort of stuff. 'But, actually, the thing that has delivered three successive promotions, that starts with the people, the characters, the personalities. 'So, yes, saying goodbye to those people is very hard. It's very hard.'

Man United's hopes of cashing in on Jadon Sancho dealt heavy blow as Borussia Dortmund REJECT the chance to sign him again - but three Premier League clubs remain interested in the winger

Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho has been told that a return to Borussia Dortmund this summer is unlikely. The 25-year-old thrived at Dortmund during a four-year spell which earned him his £73million move to Old Trafford in 2021. He returned on loan last year and impressed as the German side reached the Champions League final. Sancho is hoping to reinvigorate his career after disappointing at United having failed to recover from his public falling out with former boss Erik Ten Hag. He was shipped out on loan to Chelsea last season and the Blues had the option to sign him permanently for £25m this summer, but they instead opted to pay £5m to cancel the deal, with Sancho heading back to the Red Devils. Despite his past success in Germany, Dortmund will not offer the England international a route out of Manchester. On Wednesday, Dortmund's sporting director Sebastie Kehl ruled out a move. He said: 'Of course, there's always some kind of contact with Jadon because of the long history we share, but at the moment, Jadon is not a topic for us.' The winger's salary, which is believed to currently be between €18m (£15.3m) and €20m (£17m) per year, is far too pricey for Dortmund, according to Bild. Dortmund's reluctance comes as a blow to United's hope of cashing in for the player they signed for big money four years ago. Meanwhile, three Premier League sides have been linked with Sancho. One of those sides is said to be Tottenham, who have the pulling power of the Champions League after qualifying for the competition by winning the Europa League. Another club is Aston Villa, who are also in Europe, but had to settle for Europa League qualification after failing to finish in the top five of the Premier League when they lost against United on the final day of the season. Newcastle have also long been in the market for a right-sided forward, and Sancho fits the bill. Sancho's troubles at United began after Ten Hag criticised his performances in training after he was left out of a squad to face Arsenal in 2023. He won the Conference League with the Blues last month but has returned to Man United The player then branded the words 'completely untrue' in a social media post that was later deleted. The situation resulted in Ten Hag demanding an apology, and Sancho refusing to give one - he did not play for the Dutchman again and went on loan to Chelsea after a brief spell at former club Dortmund. Sancho took to social media to thank the Blues for his time at the club after it was made clear that Chelsea would not be making the loan deal permanent. 'Grateful for the experience,' Sancho wrote on Instagram. 'Big love to everyone at Chelsea who made me feel at home - team-mates, staff, and the fans. 'Wishing the club all the best moving forward. Truly grateful, thank you Blues.' Sancho struggled for consistency over the 2024-25 season, though he did score in the Conference League final against Real Betis, which Chelsea won 4-1.
