A man caught with a knife by police investigating a fatal crash on the M40 has been jailed.
Jyrelle O'Connor, of Blackpond Lane, Farnham Royal, Buckinghamshire, was arrested by traffic officers following a struggle near the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Beaconsfield after they were called to a fatal collision in the early hours of Saturday, Thames Valley Police said.
The 26-year-old pleaded guilty to being in possession of a knife and obstructing a constable in the execution of their duty at High Wycombe Magistrates' Court.
O'Connor was sentenced to eight months' imprisonment at Monday's hearing.
A 27-year-old man was killed and his passenger seriously hurt in the collision near junction two.
The force's roads policing unit was searching for those involved in the crash when they arrested O'Connor, it said.
He was discovered to have a folding pocket knife, with a blade measuring more than 7.5cm (2.9in).
Investigating officer Det Sgt Ed Crofts, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "He attempted to make off from officers and resisted arrest when the knife was located.
"He was arrested and charged within 24 hours and has now been jailed for the offence.
"We will never tolerate anybody carrying dangerous weapons in our community and will seek to bring to justice those that do so."
Trad Almaghrabi, 23, from Harlington Road in Uxbridge, was also due to appear at High Wycombe Magistrates' Court on Monday.
He was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Police said the collision involved a black Volkswagen Golf and blue Mercedes AMG C250.

White House plans increase in federal law enforcement in DC over crime as Trump threatens to bring in National Guard

The Trump administration is making plans to increase the federal law enforcement presence in Washington, DC, Thursday and Friday following an assault on a well-known former Department of Government Efficiency staffer over the weekend, three sources familiar with the plan told CNN. Officers from ICE, FBI, National Guard, along with local DHS agents will be part of the federal law enforcement presence, one of the sources told CNN. Local federal agents in the area have been told to be ready to be deployed, the source added. A senior White House official said that the move was not solely because of the assault, but a follow up on the president's 'Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful' executive order. 'The assault just further underscores the need for a greater law enforcement presence in DC,' the official said. 'Washington, DC is an amazing city, but it has sadly been plagued by petty and violent crime for far too long,' Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement to CNN. 'President Trump is committed to making our Nation's capital safer and even more beautiful for its residents, lawmakers, and visitors from all around the world.' Sources said the operational details were still being finalized as of Wednesday night. CNN has reached out to the DC mayor's office for comment. Earlier Wednesday, President Donald Trump said he might deploy the National Guard to DC over recent crime. 'We're going to beautify the city. We're going to make it beautiful. And what a shame, the rate of crime, the rate of muggings, killings and everything else. We're not going to let it, and that includes bringing in the National Guard maybe very quickly too,' Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.

France strips residency from 47-year-old Moroccan man who lit cigarette at Arc de Triomphe war memorial

France has reportedly stripped the residency permit of a man who lit a cigarette at a war memorial in Paris after he was caught on camera. Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau on Tuesday called the actions of a 47-year-old Moroccan man "indecent and pathetic" following his arrest. Video footage of him lighting a cigarette beneath the much-visited Arc de Triomphe sparked outrage after it was circulated. "The man who desecrated the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier by lighting a cigarette with the memorial flame was arrested in Paris for violating a burial site, tomb, urn, or monument erected in memory of the dead. He was taken into custody and admitted the facts," Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau wrote on X. On Wednesday, France's Interior Ministry announced that the unidentified man had been stripped of his residency permit, Politico reported. The Unknown Soldier War Memorial contains a flame and the tomb of a soldier killed in World War I under an arch of the Arc de Triomphe. Footage of the incident shows a man kneeling beside the memorial, which appears to be off limits to visitors. He is seen leaning over the flame emitting from the memorial to light his cigarette before immediately leaving, as the stunned tourists watch. The man reportedly has legal status in France and was known to police, according to local reports. Patricia Miralles, the deputy minister for Memory and Veterans' Affairs, said she was "outraged" by what happened. "Walking on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Lighting his cigarette with the eternal flame. This is not a mere misstep: it is a desecration," she wrote on X. "France will never tolerate the tarnishing of the memory of those who died for her. Never."
