38 convicted in 2018 Syana violence case; lifer for five, 7-year jail for rest
'The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADJ) Gopal Ji had found the individuals guilty on Wednesday and delivered the sentences on Friday," Special Public Prosecutor Yashpal Singh Raghav said.
Of the 38 people convicted, five were sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and other charges under the Indian Penal Code. The remaining 33 were sentenced to seven years in prison for charges including arson, damaging public property, and attempted murder.
Raghav confirmed that the five individuals who received life imprisonment were Prashant Nat, David, Rahul, Johnny and Lokendra Mama.
The verdict concludes a seven-year legal process stemming from the violence that erupted on December 3, 2018, over alleged cow slaughter in Chingrawathi village of Syana area.
A mob incited the general public and spread rumours, leading to a blockade. When police tried to inform them of the actual situation and persuade them to disperse, the mob pelted stones, damaged public property and set vehicles ablaze, police officials said, recounting the incident.

Retired Army captain killed after being hit, dragged by car in Jaipur
A retired Indian Army captain in Jaipur died after being hit by a car and dragged for several, with his body getting stuck under the vehicle's left front wheel, PTI reported on Saturday. Prior to that, a woman college professor died in Karauli district when she lost control of her scooter after colliding with the open door of a parked car on the roadside. She was run over by an incoming truck from behind, according to PTI. The deceased was been identified as Diksha (35), an assistant professor at Karauli Medical College. The accident occurred near the Collectorate on Wednesday night when she was returning from college.

Chandigarh Man Asks Police To Help Locate ‘Dustbin Chor', Shares CCTV Footage

An unusual theft took place in Sector 36, Chandigarh where thieves struck a house in broad daylight but didn't take any money, jewellery or valuables. Instead, they took two dustbins that were kept outside the gate. The incident occurred on August 14, around 4 PM as per the CCTV footage which was shared by the owner on X. The CCTV footage shows two men arriving on a two-wheeler. Both can be seen wearing helmets and masks to hide their identities. As the video proceeds further, one of them quietly approaches the closed gate of a residence. Then he picks up the dustbins and quickly returns to the scooter. The second man waited on the vehicle and together they sped away. The 37-second video does not show the scooter's registration number or provide any identifying details. The owner shared his concern on social media and urged police to trace the culprits. He emphasised that the act was more about the safety of the neighbourhood than just the dustbins. In his post, he wrote, 'Sector 36 Chandigarh | @chandigarhpolice Kindly help trace the individuals who have taken away my dustbins. This is not just about the dustbins, but about the safety and security of our area. Requesting your prompt assistance." Police Response The Chandigarh Police replied to his tweet in the comments section. They asked him to formally report the theft at his local police station so that proper action could be taken. Their comment read: 'Sir, kindly contact your concerned police station in this regard." Unusual Grocery Store Theft In Ernakulam A similar bizarre theft occurred at a grocery store near Thottumugham Bridge in Aluva, Ernakulam on August 3, Manorama News reported. The thief did not take the cash but focused on cooking oil and a few food items. Both the cash and charity boxes which contained Rs 5,000 were left untouched. As per the report, the accused first tried to drill through the concrete floor but could not. Then he forced open the main lock to get inside the shop. Once in, the thief took 30 bottles of virgin coconut oil, each priced around Rs 600 along with some gingelly oil, apples and milk. The total loss from the coconut oil alone was estimated at Rs 18,600 just as prices have risen ahead of Onam.
