BTS drops first-ever live concert album
BTS released its first-ever live album, 'Permission to Dance on Stage – Live,' on Friday at 1 p.m.
The album captures vivid memories of the group's performances during its 'Permission to Dance on Stage' tour in 2021 to 2022. Performances from Seoul, Los Angeles and Las Vegas feature on the album.
Marking the group's first official concert album since debut, it includes 22 tracks, featuring megahits such as 'Dynamite,' 'Butter' and 'Permission to Dance.' Several tracks were newly arranged for the tour, offering the audience fresh takes on fan favorites. 'Fire' and 'Idol" are reimagined with more intense sounds, while 'Dynamite' and 'Butter' have been infused with brass sessions for an upbeat, festive feel.
Alongside the album, a video of the final Seoul concert held at Jamsil Olympic Stadium in 2022 will be released. Fans can watch the 141-minute video through Weverse, Hybe's global fan platform. The package will also include an interview photobook featuring behind-the-scenes moments from the concert.
Meanwhile, BTS is preparing for a full-group comeback in the spring of next year and a new world tour. During a Weverse Live broadcast on July 1, the members shared that they will begin working on new music and concert preparations starting this month.

Rock band Touched to return with 'Red Signal' next week
Touched to perform two days of concerts at Kintex in Ilsan after album's release Coed rock band Touched is returning to the music scene with a new EP titled "Red Signal" on Tuesday, with preorders for the album opening Thursday. Comprising five tracks, the album includes the main track "Ruby," along with "Dynamite," "Get Back," "Cassette Tape" and "Snowball." As the name suggests, the album symbolizes strong emotional warnings and signals, like a red light signals danger, to stop or to be alert. Each song on the album is tied to a specific emotion or psychological state, using the color red as a metaphor for warning. The band recently teased a snippet of its upcoming album by performing "Ruby" and "Dynamite" at the Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival on Aug. 1. Following the album's release, the band will perform two concerts under the banner of "Attraction" on Aug. 23 and 24 at Kintex in Ilsan, Gyeonggi Province. The four bandmates are also set to perform at the Busan International Rock Festival and at Vision Bangkok 2025 in the Thai capital next month.

Hybe, Geffen Records launch second global girl group project following Katseye
Global audition began Thursday in Japan for next multinational act Hybe is once again partnering with Geffen Records, a label under Universal Music Group, to launch a new global girl group next year, the company announced Wednesday. This marks the second multinational group to debut under the ongoing collaboration between the two companies. The new project, titled 'World Scout: The Final Piece,' will begin with a large-scale audition tour across Japan. It aims to discover outstanding global talent and form a next-generation girl group for the international music market. According to Hybe and Geffen Records, top scouting teams from Hybe will take the lead in identifying promising trainees with high potential. Those who pass the audition will undergo specialized 'K-pop-style training,' adapted for the US market, from October to December. Selected trainees will then move on to an advanced training camp in the US, where they will compete for a spot in the final debut lineup. The debut is slated for 2026. The entire journey — from auditions to the group's formation — will be exclusively broadcast in the spring of 2026 via Japanese streaming platform ABEMA. 'The program will capture how talented individuals grow while working alongside world-class producers,' Hybe and Geffen Records said in a statement. The move marks the latest phase in Hybe's strategy to globalize K-pop by expanding its production model beyond South Korea. In 2023, the two companies launched the audition program 'The Debut: Dream Academy,' which led to the formation of the multinational girl group Katseye. That project drew wide interest from global viewers, who watched contestants from diverse ethnic and regional backgrounds train and compete under Hybe's K-pop production system — a blueprint previously centered in Korea, but now adapted for the US market. The show became a milestone in exporting the K-pop "DNA" to the global pop mainstream.

Is Rose of Blackpink headed for the Grammys after 8 MTV VMA nominations?
K-pop star leads Korean contenders at 2025 MTV VMAs, but Grammys path remains uncertain Rose of Blackpink is enjoying the biggest moment of her solo career yet, riding high on the success of her hit single 'APT.' featuring Bruno Mars. The track has earned her an impressive eight nominations at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, fueling speculation that a Grammy nod could be next. 'APT.,' released in October 2024, is up for seven awards at this year's VMAs, including top categories such as video of the year and song of the year, as well as best collaboration, best pop, best direction, best art direction and best visual effects. The main track 'Toxic Till the End' from her debut album 'Rosie' also scored a nomination for best K-pop, bringing her total to a record-breaking eight nominations — the most of any K-pop artist this year. 'I've just heard that I've received eight VMA nominations,' Rose shared on social media, Wednesday. 'I am beyond shocked and I just don't know what to say. I am absolutely speechless.' Lady Gaga leads all nominees with 12 nominations, followed closely by Bruno Mars with 11. Other Blackpink members Jennie, Lisa and Jisoo also received nominations in the best K-pop category for their respective solo releases. They are joined by aespa's 'Whiplash,' BTS' Jimin with 'Who' and Stray Kids' 'Chk Chk Boom.' The MTV Video Music Awards, set for Sept. 7 in New York, is one of the major music awards in the US, presented by MTV to honor excellence in music videos. The VMAs were originally conceived as a video-focused counterpart to the Grammy Awards. However, there is little correlation between winning a VMA and securing a Grammy nomination — especially in major categories. Still, industry experts say that visibility through high-profile awards like the VMAs can help sway Grammy voters by boosting an artist's profile. Taylor Swift is a prime example. She won video of the year at the 2022 VMAs for 'All Too Well: The Short Film,' which later won best music video at the 2023 Grammy Awards. Similarly, Kendrick Lamar's 'Humble' took home video of the year at the 2017 VMAs and best music video at the 2018 Grammys. Grammys still distant Music critic Lim Hee-yun said if Rose wins a major award at the VMAs, it could boost her chances of getting a Grammy nomination. "Winning a big award at the VMAs would prove that Rose has a presence in the US music market. It would be a kind of green light," he said. Despite this momentum, Lim remains skeptical about Rose's chances at a Grammy nomination. 'The Grammys generally reward artists with strong chart performance in the US, consistent praise from critics and at least a full-length album or several singles released through a major American label,' Lim said. 'In Rose's case, her only real hit in the US is 'APT.' and that alone is unlikely to earn her a Grammy nomination. Unless a K-pop song performs on the level of 'APT.' or higher, K-pop doesn't get as much attention from American audiences as we might think,' Lim added. 'If we judge by the numbers alone, the odds are quite low.' Even BTS — the first K-pop group ever nominated for the Grammys — received three consecutive nominations from 2021 to 2023, but failed to win in any category. However, Lim said that recent changes in the music industry could shift the dynamic. 'Grammy ratings have plummeted in recent years. The Recording Academy may consider nominating a K-pop artist simply to generate buzz and viewership. K-pop has a massive and loyal fanbase and even just nominating a K-pop act could boost ratings,' he said.
