At least 35 Union Pacific train cars derail near Texas town, no injuries reported
At least 35 cars of a Union Pacific train derailed in Gordon, a small town near Texas in the United States on Tuesday afternoon, officials said. The derailment occurred in Palo Pinto County, reports stated. According to Union Pacific spokeswoman Robynn Tysver, no injuries have been reported in the train car derailment and no evacuations have also been ordered following the derailment in the afternoon, AP reported. Footage showed multiple train cars piled up on each other after the derailment on the railroad track which is located in a rural area in Texas. Raising concern for the emergency responders, a grass fire and smoke was visible beside the derailment site. The derailment of about 35 train cars occurred at 2pm on Tuesday in the town of Gordon, officials said. Gordon is located about 105 kilometers southwest of Fort Worth. According to a Facebook post by Palo Pinto County Emergency Services District 1, none of the train cars were leaking their contents and hence, it was confirmed that there weren't any sort of hazardous material leaks. The emergency services, in a statement said, 'All personnel have been accounted for, and no injuries have been reported. The situation is currently stable, but not yet fully controlled.' The statement by Palo Pinto County Emergency Services added, 'Fire officials are actively working to contain and extinguish them, and no structures are currently threatened.' The Palo Pinto Fire Department personnel were working on ground to douse the grass fire, while the Union Pacific crews were enroute, Union Pacific spokeswoman Tysver said. The emergency services urged the residents to avoid the area to allow emergency crews clear access. It added that the situation is currently stable, but not yet fully controlled. The services said the grass fire, which was triggered after the derailment, is being contained by fire personnel, and no structures are currently threatened.

Narayaneeyam is a stotra composed by Narayana Bhattathiri. Stotra means explaining and highlighting the prevailing good characteristics in someone. Vedas say Devas love it when yagnas are conducted, while pitrus are pleased when their descendants pray to them. It is human nature to revel in being praised as a good person. However, not everyone remains good constantly. God alone has that unique trait, which is why He is celebrated by staunch devotees such as Bhattathiri, said B. Damodhara Deekshithar. We love to listen to scriptural discourses because we believe that God will come to our aid, as He has done for countless others. It is not possible to see God, only experience Him. Why so? The first sloka of Narayaneeyam offers an answer. The Supreme Reality, the Brahma Tatwa, which is not easy to grasp in the beginning, (we cannot see this God through our human eyes), but the realisation of which is the highest purushartha, shines right in (concrete form) as Sri Krishna at the Guruvayur temple. Wonderful indeed is the good fortune of those who seek His Grace, says Bhattathiri. If God chooses, He will appear to His true devotee, as He did to Arjuna. Chapter XII of the Bhagavad Gita says that having decided to show His Viswaroopam to Arjuna, Krishna says, 'Let me empower you to see My form,' after which Arjuna is able to behold the Divine Form. One may wonder why if He is the Brahma Tatwa, the deity at Guruvayur has such a defined form: glistening like sunrise, with long eyes that stretch nearly to the ears, reeking of kindness, teeth like pearls, neck adorned with precious garlands and necklaces, with Mahalakshmi gracing His chest. This form of the idol is said to have been in worship and when Krishna was ready to depart, He instructed Guru and Vayu to carry the idol and install it at a sacred spot. As they journeyed with the idol, Lord Siva, whose form was installed at the very place where Sri Krishna now stands in Guruvayur, instructed Guru and Vayu to leave the idol there as it was the purest place He Himself decided to move His sojourn a few metres away, in order to help devotees pray to Krishna in peace.

Activists allege Aravalli forest destruction under ‘Matri Van' project
Environmental activists and local residents have alleged large-scale destruction of a thriving Aravalli forest patch behind Koliwale Baba Mandir and Sun City, Sector 54, under the Haryana government's 'Matri Van' reforestation initiative. The project, inaugurated by the chief minister on August 2, is being executed by a private developer authorised by the Forest Department, they said. The group has flagged potential violations of the Indian Forest Act, 1927; the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980; and the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, alleging ecological damage, misuse of heavy machinery in fragile terrain. (Parveen Kumar/HT Photo) According to the Aravallis Bachao Citizens Movement, between eight and 10 earthmoving machines have been deployed since early Monday to flatten and clear an area equivalent to two football fields. While the patch is dominated by Vilayati Kikar, they claim it sustains diverse flora and fauna, including ground-nesting birds and reptiles, and that the use of heavy machinery is causing irreversible habitat destruction. 'This is not reforestation — this is habitat destruction,' said Vaishali Rana, trustee of the movement. 'Introducing cycling tracks, yoga centres and recreational structures here is not conservation but an urban park plan to benefit nearby luxury apartments.' The group has flagged potential violations of the Indian Forest Act, 1927; the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980; and the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, alleging ecological damage, misuse of heavy machinery in fragile terrain, and a conflict of interest in awarding the project to developers with a past record of environmental violations. Col S.S. Oberoi, another trustee, said the choice of site was flawed. 'If the aim is truly rewilding, why target a patch that already has a thick canopy? Restoration should focus on degraded and barren Aravalli stretches, not thriving forest land. Kusum Sharma, chairperson of the Suncity RWA, alleged irregularities in the project's execution. 'I saw a developer's horticulture team removing large logs and clearing trees. They could not show any paperwork or tender documents. If this is part of the Matri Van project, why use JCBs instead of manual labour? The same Forest Department that prohibits cutting even small stems during monsoon is now allowing large-scale clearing.' In response, Forest officials denied the allegations. Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Gurugram, Ramkumar Jangra, said, 'As per the plan and directions of the forest minister, we are removing Kikar and planting native species such as pipal, jamun, and banyan to benefit wildlife. The work is being done by forest teams, not private contractors clearing for construction.' Neelam Ahluwalia, a founding member of People for Aravallis, warned of long-term consequences. 'In water-stressed, polluted Gurgaon, the Aravallis are our only water recharge zones and green lungs. Removing mature trees in such critical areas is beyond logic and threatens both residents and wildlife. We need a Green Charter and Liveability Index for the city.' Activists have demanded an immediate halt to earthmoving operations, an independent ecological assessment, and an investigation into the project's awarding process. 'Destroying a forest to 'create' a forest is greenwashing and a betrayal of public trust,' said Rana.
