Application forms for veterinary science programmes to open today

The Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University has called for applications to its undergraduate veterinary programmes for the academic year 2025-26.
The forms will be available on the university website from 10 a.m. on Monday till 5 p.m. on June 20, the admissions committee chairman has said.
Candidates may log in to https://admin.tnuvas.ac.in to apply. For online applications, guidelines, number of seats reserved for NRIs (Non-Resident Indians)/wards of NRIs/NRI sponsored and foreign nationals quota, candidates may visit https://adm.tanuvas.ac.in.
There are 660 seats in seven colleges across the State. Admission to the programme is based on marks scored in Class 12.
Aspirants must have taken biology, physics, and chemistry in Class 12. The marks scored in these subjects are used to calculate the cut-off for 200 marks. The university allocates 15% (60 seats) of the total seats to the Veterinary Council of India for students from other States.
The university also sets aside 7.5% of the total seats for students who studied in government schools in the State.
Students can opt for BVSc, B.Tech Food Technology, B.Tech Dairy Technology, and B.Tech Poultry Technology.
The duration of the course is five-and-half years for BVSc, including one year of internship, and four years for B.Tech programmes.
BVSc is offered in Madras Veterinary College (120 seats); Veterinary Colleges in Orathanadu, Namakkal, and Tirunelveli will admit 100 students each, The veterinary colleges in Salem, Theni and Tiruppur will each admit 80 seats, subject to approval by the Veterinary Council of India.
A total of 100 seats are available in B.Tech programmes of which 7.5% of seats are reserved for students from government schools. As much as 15% of the seats for B.Tech (Food Technology - 40), Poultry Technology - 40) and (Dairy Technology 20) are reserved for candidates selected by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. To be eligible for B Tech programmes students must have stunned mathematics, chemistry, physics and biology.

NEW DELHI: Strengthening India's efforts in attaining self-sufficiency in the critical semiconductor segment, the Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved four semiconductor projects, entailing a total investment of Rs 4,594 crore, with one of them being backed by US chipmaker Intel as well as defence and aerospace manufacturer Lockheed Martin. The projects will come up in Odisha, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh, IT & Electronics Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said. The proposals were approved under the India Semiconductor Mission, which initially started the country's semiconductor manufacturing push with an outlay of Rs 76,000 crore to provide financial support for those setting up chip manufacturing facilities. 'This is a new industry that we have started in India, and we were able to make a breakthrough after trying for decades previously. We will build upon this. The demand for semiconductors is building up every month, every day. And the way these projects are being set up and are scaling up, I think we will be able to have significant production in our country as part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat programme. To me, it appears that this is just the beginning,' Vaishnaw said while briefing about the new projects and also those that started previously. The facility will be set up in Punjab with an investment of Rs 117 crore, having an annual production capacity of 15.8 crore units. Vaishnaw said the plans for semiconductor come at a time when the country's electronics manufacturing sector has grown six times to Rs 12 lakh crore in the last 11 years. Exports of electronics has grown eight times in the same period to Rs 3.3 lakh crore and mobile production has increased 28 times to Rs 5.5 lakh crore. The minister said India will host Semicon India 2025 in partnership with four countries-- Singapore, Malaysia, Japan and Korea from September 2 to 4. There has been considerable success in development of semiconductor ecosystem in India after the central govt had come up with a Rs 76,000 crore incentive package in December 2021. Under the plan, govt had extended fiscal support of up to 50% of a project's cost to eligible display and semiconductor fabricators. India – which had previously failed to get any credible proposals for semiconductor manufacturing after trying for decades – had finally managed to score big when American Micron emerged as the first major player to enter the space with a Rs 22,500 crore testing and packaging unit in Gujarat in June 2023. This was followed up with approval to three proposals worth Rs 1.26 lakh crore in February 2024. These were -- Rs 91,000 crore project of Tata Electronics Pvt Ltd to set up India's first semiconductor fab unit with Taiwanese Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp at Dholera in Gujarat; Rs 27,000 crore Semiconductor Assembly and Test (TSAT) unit by Tata in Morigaon, Assam; and Rs 7,600 crore project of CG Power with Japanese Renesas Electronics and Stars Microelectronics of Thailand. IIT-BHU study validates fairness of Random Number Generators in online card games

IIT Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, has confirmed through an independent study that Random Number Generators (RNGs) used in online card games meet high statistical fairness by Dr Bhaskar Biswas, Professor and Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, the research applied internationally accepted methodologies to evaluate the randomness and integrity of card shuffling non-Personally Identifiable Information gameplay data from RummyCulture, the study examined both 53-card and 106-card formats over a three-month TESTING USING DIEHARDER SUITE The team used the globally recognised 'Dieharder' statistical test suite, a benchmark for RNG quality, to assess thousands of card distribution tests evaluated multiple aspects of randomness, including uniformity, independence and findings showed that RNGs passed 97.34% of all Dieharder tests for 53-card games and 98.25% for 106-card games.P-value distributions were largely uniform in both cases, with only minimal clustering at the edges, which is consistent with theoretical expectations.'These results demonstrate a high level of statistical conformity and provide reassurance about the robustness of RNG implementations in digital card games,' said Dr Biswas. 'In games such as online rummy, the underlying randomness must be beyond reproach.'FIRST ACADEMIC VALIDATION OF REAL-WORLD RNG DATAThis is the first time in the skill-based Real Money Gaming and wider global gaming industry that an independent academic body has analysed actual gameplay RNG IIT-BHU team conducted multiple Dieharder tests, such as the Birthday Spacing Test, Bitstream and Rank Tests, Parking Lot and Minimum Distance Tests, and DNA and OPSO/OQSO results consistently confirmed no detectable bias or predictability in RNG AND INDUSTRY SIGNIFICANCEThe report highlights the regulatory importance of these findings.
