Gujarat to get new veterinary college; admissions to start next month
The Central government has approved the establishment of Kamdhenu Veterinary College at Himatnagar under Kamdhenu University. The institution will offer 80 seats in Bachelor of Veterinary Science ( and Animal Husbandry programmes, with admissions for the 2025–26 academic year set to begin next month through NEET scores. The Himatnagar facility will be Gujarat's fifth veterinary college, joining institutions in Anand, Navsari, Junagadh, and Dantiwada. The proposal, submitted by the State government, received approval from the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) after a detailed inspection earlier this year. Faculty recruitment complete Spread over 23 acres, the state-of-the-art campus will offer modern infrastructure, high-quality education at government-prescribed fees, and residential facilities for students. Faculty recruitment is complete, with one principal, four professors, seven associate professors, 34 assistant professors, and 23 non-teaching staff appointed. Officials said that Gujarat was the only State in the country to have developed facilities such as health cards for livestock, Pashu Arogya Mela, and cataract surgeries for animals. This new college will further advance this initiative in the future, they said.

41,584 from Telangana qualify NEET-UG, Sai Kumar is State topper
Kakarla Jeevan Sai Kumar, who bagged the 18th rank with a 99.9991853 percentile, is the State topper for Telangana in the NEET (UG), the results of which were declared on Saturday (June 14). He is one of the four candidates who tied the same score. The top-16 ranks went to north Indian States, and the 17th was secured by a candidate from Karnataka. Including rank 18, Telangana secured a total of five ranks in the top-100: Shanmukha Nishanth Akshintala (37), Mangari Varun (46), Yandrapati Shanmukh (48) and Bidisha Majee (95). Two candidates from Telangana were in the list of top-20 female toppers: Bidisha Majee (95) and Brahmani Rendla (108). Sai Kumar is also the only candidate from the State in the list of top-20 male toppers. Telangana's Reddymalla Sreeshanth (147) is in the top-10 candidates from SC category, and Pujari Hasini (377) and Banoth Dheeraj Kumar (1178) were in the top-10 candidates from ST category. Notably, seven of the top-10 in ST category went to candidates from Rajasthan. In 2025, a total of 72,094 candidates from the State registered for the test, 70,259 appeared and 41,584 candidates (59.18%) were declared qualified. In 2024, 77,848 had appeared and 47,356 (60.83%) candidates qualified. NEET (UG) qualification allows candidates to pursue undergraduate medical education, and disciplines of BAMS, BUMS and BSMS courses. It is also considered for admissions to BSc (H) Nursing, for BVSc & AH courses under 15% quota of Veterinary Council of India.

Application forms for veterinary science programmes to open today
The Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University has called for applications to its undergraduate veterinary programmes for the academic year 2025-26. The forms will be available on the university website from 10 a.m. on Monday till 5 p.m. on June 20, the admissions committee chairman has said. Candidates may log in to to apply. Admission to the programme is based on marks scored in Class 12. Aspirants must have taken biology, physics, and chemistry in Class 12. The marks scored in these subjects are used to calculate the cut-off for 200 marks. The university allocates 15% (60 seats) of the total seats to the Veterinary Council of India for students from other States. The university also sets aside 7.5% of the total seats for students who studied in government schools in the State. Students can opt for BVSc, Food Technology, Dairy Technology, and Poultry Technology. The duration of the course is five-and-half years for BVSc, including one year of internship, and four years for programmes. BVSc is offered in Madras Veterinary College (120 seats); Veterinary Colleges in Orathanadu, Namakkal, and Tirunelveli will admit 100 students each, The veterinary colleges in Salem, Theni and Tiruppur will each admit 80 seats, subject to approval by the Veterinary Council of India. A total of 100 seats are available in programmes of which 7.5% of seats are reserved for students from government schools. As much as 15% of the seats for (Food Technology - 40), Poultry Technology - 40) and (Dairy Technology 20) are reserved for candidates selected by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. To be eligible for B Tech programmes students must have stunned mathematics, chemistry, physics and biology.
