Viral clip shows Maharashtra Minister Gogawale with ‘witch doctor'; Sena (UBT), NCP mock him

The Hindu19-06-2025
The Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP on Wednesday (June 18, 2025) claimed that Maharashtra's Minister Bharat Gogawale had resorted to occult rituals for his victory in last year's Assembly elections and a cabinet berth.
The Minister for Employment Guarantee Scheme (EGS) was targeted after a viral video purportedly showed him performing some rituals with a 'mantrik' (witch doctor).
Vasant More of Sena (UBT) and Suraj Chavan of the NCP mocked the Shiv Sena Minister, who represents the Mahad constituency. NCP and Shiv Sena are partners in the ruling Mahayuti coalition in the State.
Mr. More said Mr. Gogawale had earlier performed occult rituals to become an MLA and a Cabinet Minister, while Mr. Chavan claimed on Wednesday that he recently took part in another round of such rituals in the hope of becoming the Guardian Minister of Raigad district.
Mr. Chavan said Maharashtra is a progressive State, and Mr. Gogawale should trust the Mahayuti leadership instead.
Both Shiv Sena and NCP are vying for the post of Raigad Guardian Minister.
Reacting to his video, Mr. Gogawale called himself a 'Hindutvawadi' and said he believes in God. The Minister said he had visited a religious place in Indore and performed havan and puja.
'If Vasant More feels I became an MLA and then a Minister after performing the puja, then he should have told me. I would have taken him along with me... he wouldn't have lost his deposit in the Assembly polls,' said Mr. Gogawale.
The Shiv Sena leader said he was being targeted as he had spoken the 'truth' about the split in the original party.

Military ready to aid govt in conducting ‘free, fair and neutral' polls: Bangladesh Army chief

DHAKA: Bangladesh Army chief General Waker-uz-Zaman on Tuesday said that the military was prepared to assist the interim government in ensuring "free, fair and neutral" general elections planned for February next year. "The country is heading towards the national election, and the army has taken all necessary preparations to support the government in ensuring a free, fair and neutral election," he was quoted as saying by several mainstream media outlets. General Zaman made the remarks at the Officers' Address programme at Dhaka Cantonment, attended by senior officers. Officers from other cantonments across the country joined the event virtually. Earlier this month, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus said the elections would be held in February, and the Election Commission subsequently announced that the polls would be held in the first week of February. In his address, General Zaman reminded soldiers that they belong to a professional force and must demonstrate professionalism. "The people of the country are now looking to you. You are the future of the nation. Therefore, you must remain inspired by patriotism and uphold the chain of command of the force," he added. Referring to misinformation on social media against the army, he said, "Those making such remarks are young, like our children. They will understand their mistakes as they grow older and will feel ashamed." Former prime minister Khaleda Zia's Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has emerged as the single largest party in Awami League's absence after Yunus' government disbanded its activities under an executive order. An offshoot of Students Against Discrimination (SAD), which led protests against then-premier Sheikh Hasina, formed the National Citizen Party (NCP) in February, apparently with Yunus' blessings. The NCP is believed to have developed ties with the far-right Jamaat-e-Islami and other Islamist groups against the BNP. Despite assurances by Yunus and several of his advisers about free and fair polls within the announced deadline, a sense of uncertainty grew among political parties because of the comments and gestures of the NCP.

Raut demands probe against Shirsat for ‘giving away' forest land

Mumbai: A day after NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar accused Shiv Sena minister Sanjay Shirsat of a Rs 5,000-crore land scam when the latter was chairperson of the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) under chief minister Eknath Shinde, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut wrote to Union home minister Amit Shah demanding a probe. Raut said nearly 4,078 acres of forest land were illegally transferred to a family known as Bivalkars by CIDCO. Raut demanded that Shinde and Shirsat be sacked from the cabinet, a case be registered, and an investigation conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Rohit had alleged that despite the proposal being repeatedly rejected in the past, Shirsat facilitated the return of 150 acres of prime land in and around Navi Mumbai to the Bivalkars. Shirsat is currently social justice minister. He was appointed CIDCO chairman in Sept 2024 and his appointment terminated in Jan 2025. Shiv Sena MPs Honour PM Modi For Operation Sindoor Success, UNESCO Recognition Of Maratha Forts

Last Updated: The MPs honoured the Prime Minister by presenting him with an idol of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and adorning him with a Puneri turban Shiv Sena MPs on Tuesday honoured Prime Minister Narendra Modi in traditional Maharashtrian style for the inclusion of Maharashtra's forts in the UNESCO list and the success of Operation Sindoor. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Operation Sindoor for India's security and took the initiative to include Maharashtra's forts in the UNESCO World Heritage List, the lawmakers said. Under the leadership of Shiv Sena's parliamentary leader Dr Shrikant Shinde, the MPs met the Prime Minister to congratulate and appreciate his efforts. They also extended best wishes for the upcoming Vice Presidential election. In turn, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the work of all Shiv Sena MPs. Apart from Shinde, the Shiv Sena delegation included spokesperson and MP Naresh Mhaske, as well as MPs Shrirang Barne, Dhairyasheel Mane, Ravindra Waikar, Milind Deora, and Prataprao Jadhav, among others. During the meeting, the MPs honoured PM Modi by presenting him with an idol of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and adorning him with a Puneri turban. The PM recalled, 'Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is my inspiration. When I contested the Lok Sabha elections and entered the race for the post of Prime Minister, I first went to Raigad, paid my respects to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, worshipped him, and only then went on to become Prime Minister." The MPs said that every Indian, especially every citizen of Maharashtra, is filled with pride and emotion. Due to PM Modi's tireless efforts and visionary leadership, a historic decision was taken at the 47th session of the World Heritage Committee held in Paris, they added. Out of 20 countries, 18 supported India's proposal. Twelve forts established by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. This is India's 44th World Heritage Site, placing the country sixth globally and second in the Asia-Pacific region. On behalf of the Shiv Sena parliamentary party, the MPs expressed deep gratitude and appreciation for this historic achievement. The forts included in the list are Salher, Shivneri, Lohgad, Khanderi, Raigad, Rajgad, Pratapgad, Suvarnadurg, Panhala, Vijaydurg, and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra, along with Gingee Fort in Tamil Nadu. Their inclusion reflects the expanse of Maratha heritage. These forts, stretching from hilltops to coastal outposts, are remarkable examples of Maratha territorial divisions and defence planning. The MPs said this decision will highlight Maharashtra's rich heritage and instil new pride and consciousness about history among the youth. It will ensure the preservation of the forts, boost tourism, and turn them into significant research sites. Maharashtra's economy will also gain fresh impetus, they added. The Prime Minister has called upon citizens across the country to visit these forts and learn about the glorious history of the Maratha Empire. Shiv Sena MPs believe PM Modi's appeal will inspire every Indian to connect with their roots. They also conveyed that their party stands firmly with the PM in every effort to preserve and enhance these historic legacies. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
