The Voice's Season 27 Winner Is…
The confetti cannons were loaded and ready to fire Tuesday evening as The Voice prepared to reveal the identity of its Season 27 winner. Based on Monday's performances by the Top 5 (recapped here), it seemed like it should be a toss-up between Team Michael Bublé's underrated Adam David and Team Adam Levine's sublime Lucia Flores-Wiseman. But how often have the results ever gone the way we expected? (Need I remind you that Katie Kadan didn't win Season 17? And yes, I'm still bitter.)
Though Monday wasn't a high point for Team John Legend's Renzo, he's got star power to burn. Team Bublé's Jadyn Cree isn't just the obvious producers' pick, she appeared to have the teenybopper vote locked up. (Look at the results of TVLine's 'Say whaaat?' polls!) And though Team Kelsea Ballerini's Super Save artist Jaelen Johnston fumbled big time in his first performance, he rebounded with his second. And don't we all love a good comeback story?

Chicago Fire Boss Previews Severide's Pascal Doubts, Carver and Ritter's Goodbyes... and Future Returns?
Before we found out the identity of the winner, we were, of course, first treated to a full-to-brimming evening of entertainment. Kicking off the night was Foreigner with a medley of the band's hits 'Feels Like the First Time,' 'Jukebox Hero' and 'I Want to Know What Love Is.' (Credit where it's due, they sounded as radio-ready as ever, including Kelly Hansen's lead-vocals successor.) Former coach Kelly Clarkson delivered a heartfelt rendition of her ballad, 'Where Have You Been?' (And that high note — Lord!)
Season 22 victor Bryce Leatherwood, looking all kindsa comfortable, tore through 'God Made' with enviable confidence. (Take note, Jaelen!) Former and hopefully future coach Chance the Rapper took us on a chill trip through 'Space and Time.' Joe Jonas delivered a solid take on his hit 'Heart by Heart' (aka my fave current song). Mega Mentor Sheryl Crow teamed up with James Bay to make 'You and Me Time' time worth spending. The Top 5 (as well as a bunch of eliminated contestants) banded together on a hella-messy version of Bastille's 'Pompeii' that found them being completely upstaged by their acrobatic backing dancers.
As the episode neared its final quarter, former coach Alicia Keys teamed up with Hell's Kitchen lead Amanda Reid to elevate the proceedings with positively pristine renderings of 'The River' and 'Empire State of Mind.' Last but not least, the sing-off's GOAT Blake Shelton took us to 'Texas' — but not before revisiting the magic that was his spar-tnership with Adam. (The two of them even hinted, however slightly, that they might one day reunite on the coaching panel.)
As for the coach/contestant duets, they went something like this…
Renzo and John Legend, 'As It Was' | Hard to improve on Harry Styles' original version of his mega-hit — and, erm, this didn't. It was awkward, strained, mediocre karaoke. They didn't even bother to change 'Harry, you're no good alone' to 'Renzo, you're no good alone.'
Jaelen Johnston and Kelsea Ballerini, 'Whiskey Lullaby' | On Brad Paisley and Allison Krauss' duet, Jaelen altogether laid to rest the specter of Monday's oopsie. He sounded terrific and meshed beautifully with his coach. If you didn't know any better, you wouldn't have even been able to guess which of them was the pro and which was the wannabe.
Adam David and Michael Bublé, 'The Weight' | 'Adlé' fully brought their bromance to bear on The Band's golden oldie. The duo's performance was casual and comfortable, and their delight in sharing the stage was contagious. Whether Adam made it to the winner's circle, he'd certainly made a friend.
Lucia Flores-Wiseman and Adam Levine, 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' | Contestant and coach worked well together on their Beatles cover. Interestingly, though, it was (perhaps predictably?) Lucia's unique tone that really caught the ear. The Maroon 5 frontman was good; his protégé, memorable.
Jadyn Cree and Michael Bublé, 'I Got You, Babe' | All I could think while watching this Sonny and Cher cover was, 'Holy crap, I've had fondue that isn't this cheesy.' And is it just me, or does Jadyn always sound like she is flattening the roundness out of any and every possible note?
And in the moment(s) of truth…
FIFTH PLACEJadyn Cree (Team Bublé)
FOURTH PLACELucia Flores-Wiseman (Team Adam) — whaaaat?!?
THIRD PLACERenzo (Team Legend)
SECOND PLACEJaelen Johnston (Team Kelsea)
WINNERAdam David (Team Bublé)

Alien: Earth Stars Promise ‘Drooling, Snarling' Xenomorphs, Say Series Is ‘Tense' and ‘Not Just Jump Scares'
If you like your xenomorphs clocking in at eight feet tall and both 'drooling' and 'snarling,' FX and Hulu's Alien: Earth series has you covered. Announced more than four years ago and hailing from Noah Hawley (of FX's Fargo and Legion), Alien: Earth is set in 2120 when five corporations — Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic and Threshold — wield the power of nations. Nautilus Trailer: Captain Nemo Makes Waves in AMC's Jules Verne-Inspired Adventure Drama - Watch In this Corporate Era, cyborgs (humans with both biological and artificial parts) and synthetics (humanoid robots operated by A.I.) exist alongside humans. But the game is changed when the founder of Prodigy unlocks a new advancement: hybrids (humanoid robots infused with human consciousness). The prototype hybrid is dubbed 'Wendy' and played by Sydney Chandler (Sugar). When a Weyland-Yutani spaceship crashes into Prodigy City, Wendy and other hybrids encounter mysterious life forms 'more terrifying than anyone could have ever imagined.' The cast also includes Timothy Olyphant (Justified) as Kirsh, Wendy's synth mentor/trainer, and Babou Ceesay (Into the Badlands) as Morrow, a good ol' fashioned cyborg — or as he puts it in the TVLine video above, 'an iPhone 1 in an iPhone 20 world.' Also in the Disney Upfront red carpet video above, Chandler shares an irony-filled anecdote about trekking to the Fargo set in Calgary to audition for Hawley, when it turns out they're practically neighbors back in Texas. She and Ceesay then tell me about the guy who plays the 'drooling, snarling' xenomorph that Wendy et al bump up against. Even though all make-believe, 'It's scary being chased by an alien, it does get to you!' avows Chandler. Ceesay in turn reports that he has seen a few episodes already, 'and there were moments where I was breathing a little shallower, waiting for that [scary] moment to hit.' All told, Alien: Earth, he says, is 'tense, it's not just jump scares.' Alien: Earth premieres Tuesday, Aug. 12, with the first two episodes available to stream on Hulu at 8 pm ET and airing on FX at 8/7c. The eight-episode season will continue with weekly drops each Tuesday on Hulu at 8 pm ET and on FX at 8/7c. The cast also includes Alex Lawther (The End of the F***ing World), Essie Davis (Faraway Downs), David Rysdahl (Fargo Season 5), Samuel Blenkin (Mary & George), Adarsh Gourav (Hostel Daze), Jonathan Ajayi (Noughts + Crosses), Erana James (The Wilds), Lily Newmark (A Gentleman in Moscow), Diêm Camille (Alex Rider) and Adrian Edmondson (EastEnders). Kelly Clarkson Reportedly Facing 'Very Painful' Personal Struggles That Might Force Her To Quit Her Popular Show
Kelly Clarkson has reportedly had a "moment of clarity" following her brief break from her widely popular talk show due to personal matters. Back in March, the singer abruptly stepped away from her show for two weeks, leaving celebrity guests to fill in for her until her return. Now, sources claim that Kelly Clarkson faced "very painful" personal issues, and that she might leave her show, as she "knows her limits." According to a new report, Clarkson is seeing things more clearly now after going through a tough period in her life that forced her to take a break from her show in March. While she has yet to speak on the reason behind her absence, fans at the time were told that the singer had a "private matter" to attend to, which has left many concerned to this day. "This has all been very painful for her," an industry source who has worked with Clarkson told Page Six. They continued, "The difficulty is that Kelly, like all of us, wants to be liked, and she had to deal with this new moment in her life. She knew she had to step down for a minute." The industry insider further shared: "She has her priorities, and her family comes first, but I think she's been humbled by the whole situation… what has happened has given her a moment of clarity, I think." Clarkson's recent issues came at a time when she was getting her life back on track after a bitter divorce battle with her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock. The former couple, who called it quits on their marriage in 2020, share two children together: daughter River Rose and son Remington "Remy" Alexander. Clarkson herself was open about the toll the divorce took on her. In a chat with Apple Music in 2023, she admitted, "Just to be brutally honest, I did not handle [the divorce] well." Blackstock and Clarkson's split was further complicated by the role he played as her manager, the brain behind her multimillion-dollar deal with NBC, and her talk show. "The irony is that he's had a very positive influence on her life; he made these phenomenal deals for her, and she wouldn't be here without him. But it's hard to be a manager and a husband," the industry insider noted. "At the time, she greatly appreciated what he had done for her career." Now, beyond her hectic daytime show, Clarkson has several other endeavors weighing on her, including her recently launched record label, High Road Records, and her upcoming Las Vegas residency, "Kelly Clarkson: Studio Sessions," which is set to begin on July 4. These various ventures, along with her personal issues, have raised questions about the future of her daytime show. "She knows her limits, even on 'The Voice', when she was working so hard, she knew when she needed a refresh – that's what you're seeing now," the industry insider stated, per Page Six. "She is a very feeling, sensitive person, as you see on the talk show, and that's both in her personal and professional life." Back in April, insiders revealed to Page Six that the "Wrapped In Red" singer was considering quitting her talk show to spend more time with her children. However, NBC executives are reportedly doing everything they can to keep her happy, in the hope that she will reconsider her decision to step down from the role she has been helming since 2019. "Kelly's number one priority is her children, and they always will be," a source told the news outlet about Clarkson. "The show is grueling. It's a whole lot of work, and I hear that Kelly would like to spend more time down South." Another source explained that NBC would like to ensure Clarkson remains on the network to host holiday specials, such as "Christmas in Rockefeller Center." After her return from her two-week break, Clarkson noted how she and her family experienced "kind of a dark week." During an episode of "The Kelly Clarkson Show," where she hosted the stars of "A Minecraft Movie," Danielle Brooks, Jack Black, and Jason Momoa, Clarkson opened up about how their efforts on the film positively affected her family. "It was kind of a dark week for me and my family, and I got to preview the movie with them," she shared, per Decider. "It was such an exciting thing. So I just wanted to say thank you. It brought my kids out of, like, a sad time to, like, just a normal kind of time." The "Because of You" singer did not elaborate on the nature of the "sad time" as she went on to sing "A Minecraft Movie" praises, noting that "it's such a great film." "And that's the reason why I love it, 'cause it's like a family film. Everybody can watch, it makes you feel good," Clarkson added. "It's inspiring, it's creative. Well done on the movie. It's so good."
