ABQ Sunport adds two new nonstop flights during Balloon Fiesta
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — Two new, nonstop flights will be available through Delta at ABQ Sunport during this year's Balloon Fiesta. The flights include Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) through Oct. 4 to 12. A fourth Atlanta flight and JFK service returns are also being added.

Balloon Fiesta is the second-busiest period for the Sunport following the holiday season. It draws hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. 'We are pleased to see Delta bringing guests from the Motor City and Jet City straight to the heart of Balloon Fiesta,' said Aviation Department Business Development Manager Dan Jiron. 'These flights reflect growing demand for one of the most visually stunning events in the world—and we look forward to welcoming travelers from these new destinations.'
Mayor Tim Keller says the city is grateful that Delta's new flights will make it easier for people to join the celebration.

New resolution looks to add more properties to Nob Hill redevelopment project
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – There's a new push to give property owners more help fixing up empty lots and rundown buildings on one of the city's busiest boulevards, off of Central Ave. The city councilor for the area said a revamp is long overdue on San Mateo Blvd. between Lomas Blvd. and Copper Ave. She's pushing to rope it into a special redevelopment zone that could speed up a potential overhaul. But Albuquerque City Councilor Nichole Rogers wants to change that, introducing a plan targeting the area for improvements that could draw in new businesses. Her resolution looks to add the half-mile stretch of San Mateo to the nearby 'Metropolitan Redevelopment Area Plan,' giving new benefits to 58 properties in the area. 'The MRA zone, because it is on Central, we're able to use those incentives for the San Mateo Towers, so why can't we do the same thing for smaller business owners and not just big developers?' said Councilor Nichole Rogers. If it passes, one of the benefits could allow area businesses to get a seven-year property tax freeze, which could help avoid costs associated with upgrades. 'Any business owner who is wanting to expand, either renovate their area, expand their businesses, they're adding jobs, people want to add housing to this area. These tax abatements can help,' said Rogers. Some residents have expressed concerns about the change, which comes with designating properties as 'blighted,' something that could also affect property values. But Councilor Rogers says this won't be an issue for long. 'It might feel funny to say 'yes, it's blighted but it won't be when we're done' and that's the purpose of using these tools, it's to take a blighted area and change that,' said Rogers. The potential 'MRA' expansion goes to city council's Land Use and Zoning Committee next week. If it passes, city council could vote for final approval, potentially by June 16. Councilor Rogers is hosting a 'Community Conversation' about the potential MRA on Thursday. We also reached out to the Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency who provided a statement on the project. 'The MRA has been working with Councilor Rogers on legislation to extend the Central/Highland/Upper Nob Hill Metropolitan Redevelopment Area up San Mateo Blvd. to Lomas Blvd. MRA staff conducted an analysis in the area which merits inclusion in an MRA. Expanding this MRA will help unlock incentives to help spur economic investments in a highly traveled commercial corridor in the heart of the city. Delta ending Dayton flights to New York in September, adding service to Atlanta
Jun. 3—Delta Air Lines says that it is ending daily nonstop service from Dayton to LaGuardia Airport in New York City near in the end of this summer. Delta launched the service at the Dayton International Airport three years ago, on June 6, 2022. The service to the 19th largest airport in the nation operates on a CRJ-900 aircraft that has 70 seats. A Delta spokesperson said, "Delta routinely adjusts its network to meet demand. For any customers that are booked on flights that are impacted by a reduction, we will work to rebook them on an alternative itinerary. We deeply apologize for any inconvenience that schedule changes may cause." When the service to LaGuardia ends on Sept. 7, the Dayton International Airport will have nonstop flights to 11 airports, said Melissa Riley Patsiavos, marketing and air service director for Dayton's aviation department. Riley Patsiavos said Delta is going to add another daily route to Atlanta at the Dayton airport. Delta says the route will run from Sept. 8 to Dec. 19, which will increase the number of "giant flights" between Dayton and Atlanta to five. "Our daily service to ATL will increase to five daily trips and Delta's overall capacity from DAY will increase by 8%," Riley Patsiavos said. She said many of the Dayton airport's airline partners still offer one-stop service to the New York City market, but not nonstop flights. She also said United Airlines is increasing its capacity to Denver this June by upgrading to a larger aircraft. The Dayton International Airport saw about 148,100 passenger boardings in the first quarter of this year, which is up 1.9% from the same period in 2024. Delta accounts for slightly less than a quarter of the airport's passenger traffic. American Airlines represents nearly half of boardings, while United Airlines accounts for about 20%. The Dayton airport has nonstop service to Atlanta, St. Pete-Clearwater, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Punta Gorda (Florida), and Washington D.C.
