India captain Harmanpreet Kaur on Monday said her team is determined to end its ICC trophy drought at the ODI Women's World Cup beginning next month, and the preceding series against title favourites Australia will give the side a clear picture of where it stands heading into the mega event at home.India has never won a world title despite coming close on a few occasions, including the 2017 ODI World Cup in England, where they finished runners' up to capture the country's imagination."We want to break that barrier which all Indians are waiting for. World Cups are always special, always want to do special for my country. Whenever I see Yuvi bhaiya ( Yuvraj Singh ) it gives me a lot of motivation," Harmanpreet said at the trophy unveiling ceremony for the ODI World Cup.Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh and Harmanpreet's teammates were also part of the function.India will go for Australia's series at home, starting September 14, high on confidence, having got the better of England in their own backyard in both ODI and T20 format. The World Cup starts September 30."Playing against Australia is always challenging and we get to know what is our standing. The series (three ODIs vs Australia) will give us a lot of confidence. We have been putting a lot of effort in our training camps and the results are showing," said Harmanpreet.Her match-winning 171 in the semifinal against Australia back in 2017 remains fresh in Harmanpreet's mind."That knock was something really special to me and the entire women's cricket. A lot of things changed for me after that knock. When we came back to India, even though we had lost, a lot of people were waiting and cheering for us. I still get goosebumps," she added.

Just days after Virat Kohli posted a photo of himself after a training session, fellow India veteran Rohit Sharma has also posted a picture of himself with former assistant coach Abhishek Nayar in the gym. Nayar reposted that with the caption that said: 'Let it begin'. According to PTI, Rohit has begun training with Nayar at a suburban Mumbai facility after taking a break of a couple of months from cricket following the IPL. Rohit retired from T20Is after leading India to victory in the T20 World Cup last year and then from Tests during the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). This has left ODIs as the only format in which he plays international cricket and India next play one only in October when they tour Australia. Kohli has also retired from T20Is and Tests and this has led to a lot of specuation around his and Rohit's future with the Indian ODI team. Nayar was sacked as India's assistant coach in April this year after India's dismal run of form in Tests. Rohit is known to work with him on occassion personally and Nayar remains a reputed batting coach. KL Rahul had worked with Nayar prior to the recently concluded five-match Test series in England, in which he ended up scoring 532 runs. Considered one of the greatest opening batters of all time, Rohit has scored 11,168 runs in 273 ODIs at an average of 48.76 with 32 centuries and 58 half-centuries. He is the only batter to have scored three double centuries in men's ODIs and his 264 remains the highest-ever score by any player in the format. Rohit had led a dominant India to the final of the 2023 World Cup. However, while they were hardly challenged by any team throughout the tournament, India were thoroughly outplayed by Australia in the final and lost by six wickets, a result that Rohit admitted in later months took a big toll on him mentally and emotionally.
