AI 171 crash: Aviation minister rebuts foreign media claims
NEW DELHI: Union aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu Sunday urged western media to avoid speculation and appreciated AAIB for decoding black box data in India.
'AAIB has made an appeal to all, especially western media houses, which may have a vested interest in the kind of articles they are trying to publish.
I believe in AAIB. I believe in the work that they are doing.
They have done a wonderful job in decoding the whole black box and getting the data out in India itself,' he said. He reiterated govt will await the final report before drawing any conclusions.
Govt has been firefighting over the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau's (AAIB) slammed-by-most preliminary probe into the deadly June 12 Air India AI 171 crash.
While the report did not reveal cockpit voice recorder (CVR) transcript of the critical seconds, the western media started giving out those alleged details regularly a full 44 hours before the AAIB report was released on July 12 — which are yet to be denied by AAIB.
The western reports have blamed AI 171 captain for the crash. The solitary selective indirect CVR quote in AAIB report also has one pilot asking the other why he switched off the fuel supply to engines.

Naidu termed this decoding a major achievement as earlier black boxes had to be sent abroad to retrieve data. 'But this is the first time that successfully AAIB has decoded everything. The preliminary report has also been seen,' he said and urged against coming to conclusions before the final report is out.

BJP leaders in Ludhiana await announcement of new district president, MC office protest site becomes platform for contenders.
Ludhiana: The Bharatiya Janata Party's leadership in Punjab has named new district presidents across most constituencies — but the crucial Ludhiana post remains in limbo amid internal competition and ongoing political protests. Party insiders say the delay stems from a fierce rivalry among senior members for the district president's role. Current president Rajnish Dhiman, councillor Sunil Moudgil, and former district chief Pushpinder Singhal are all seen participating actively in the BJP's protest at the municipal corporation's Zone-D office, in what observers view as an informal show of strength. Dhiman, who was appointed in Dec 2022, oversaw the party through several key polls, including parliamentary, municipal corporation, and the recent Ludhiana West byelection. His tenure, sources say, has been free of major controversy and marked by accessibility to party workers. However, newly elected councillor Moudgil has emerged as a strong contender, bolstering his presence by joining the protest alongside fellow councillors. A senior BJP member, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the decision on Ludhiana's district leadership will be taken by the party's central command. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Secret Lives of the Romanovs — the Last Rulers of Imperial Russia! "The BJP aims to contest all 117 seats independently, and the process for that has already begun. These new district appointments are part of strengthening the grassroots structure," the senior member said. Meanwhile, the party has appointed Gagandeep Sunny Kainth as the rural district president for Ludhiana. Kainth, who was rumoured previously to have flirted with the Congress camp during the Ludhiana West byelection, is now being entrusted with consolidating the BJP's rural base. He has been engaging with farmers across villages, especially over opposition to the state govt's land pooling policy, and is expected to be the party's key face in agrarian constituencies. Rahul Gandhi brings Adani angle in tariff war
New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi cannot stand up to US President Donald Trump because of "the ongoing US investigation into Adani". Trump had on Tuesday said that he will raise tariffs on New Delhi "very substantially" over the next 24 hours because India is still buying Russian oil despite his warning against it. "India, please understand: The reason PM Modi cannot stand up to President Trump despite his repeated threats is the ongoing US investigation into Adani. One threat is to expose the financial links between Modi, AA and Russian oil deals. Modi's hands are tied," Gandhi posted on social media.
