MSU's Jonathan Smith outlines three key takeaways from first fall scrimmage
Spartans head coach Jonathan Smith met with the media on Monday to provide an update on Michigan State as they start their third week of fall camp. Part of that update included some insight from the Spartans' first scrimmage of fall camp this past weekend.
Smith said the team had roughly 100 snaps of live tackle football, with the following key takeaways from the scrimmage:

Smith also said Michigan State will hold another scrimmage this Saturday.
The Spartans will officially open the 2025 season on August 29 against Western Michigan. Kickoff from Spartan Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, with the game set to be televised on FS1.

ESPN predicts how Notre Dame will fare in the College Football Playoff
Golden hour ☘️#GoIrish☘️ On Friday morning two ESPN analysts, Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach predicted how the College Football Playoff would play out and both of them had much different outlooks for Notre Dame. They do think that the Irish will make the field of 12-teams, but with varying results. Bonagura has Notre Dame having a rematch of its season-opening game against No. 11 Miami as the No. 6 seed while Schlabach has the Irish as the No. 7 seed taking on No. 10 LSU. While Notre Dame is eligible to get a first-round bye, they don't think that will be the case this year. It could be a blessing in disguise, as all four teams that sat out the first-round of the CFP lost its second-round game last year. Schlabach doesn't have Notre Dame moving past the initial game, while Bonagura does. He has them matching up against No. 3 Ohio State, only to fall to the Buckeyes once again. As for the eventual championship game, they both have their No. 1 and No. 2 ranked teams facing off, but with different matchups. Bonagura has No. 2 Penn State facing No. 1 Texas, while Schlabach has No. 2 Clemson also taking on the Longhorns. After what we saw last year, it's hard to say that the top-two teams will eventually play for a championship, as neither the Irish or the Buckeyes were one of the top seeds. This isn't how I see it playing out, as I think that the Irish will get a top-4 seed, and an easier path in the CFP. How do you see it playing out? UNC football to face SEC program in CBS Sports' first 2025 bowl projections
Which SEC team is UNC projected to face in a bowl game? Can you believe the start of college football is almost here? We'll get underway with Week 0 next weekend, then UNC will host TCU to cap off Week 1 on Labor Day. Bowl games won't be played until December, but it's never too early to start making projections. Due to North Carolina's somewhat favorable schedule, North Carolina is slated to play in a bowl game. In CBS Sports' first bowl projections ahead of the 2025 CFB season, the Tar Heels are projected to face Florida in the Gator Bowl. This would essentially be a road game for UNC, as the Gator Bowl is always played in Jacksonville's Everbank Stadium, which is just 90 minutes from UF. North Carolina has six-consecutive bowl appearances, but a horrible track record in those postseason contests, last winning a bowl game in 2019 against Temple. Bill Belichick is a much-better head coach than Mack Brown, though, so the hope is he'll have his players prepared. Given their young roster, the Tar Heels also shouldn't have many opt-outs after their regular-season concludes. If UNC ends up playing in the Gator Bowl, it'd be UNC's second trip to the Sunshine State this season. North Carolina travels to UCF on September 20. Florida is in a similar spot to that of the Tar Heels. 2024 was the Gators' first winning season since 2020, which ended in the rankings and a Cotton Bowl loss. Last year, Florida went 8-5 and beat Tulane in the Gasparilla Bowl, its first bowl victory since 2019. Is Notre Dame football closing in on its quarterback decision? One pundit thinks so
The start of the season is getting closer, as Notre Dame is just over two weeks away from going on the road for a season-opening top-10 US LBM Coaches Poll matchup against the Miami Hurricanes. There are multiple starting spots that have yet to be announced, but the biggest one that we are all watching is who will be the starting quarterback: CJ Carr or Kenny Minchey. The is one insider that believes the choice could be made soon: On3's Tyler Horka. On Friday morning he posted a clip of both of them taking reps and said this weekend 'might be the one of the biggest of the year for Notre Dame' as they could be close to named its starting quarterback. All the current rumors have been that head coach Marcus Freeman, offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock and quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli are leaning towards Minchey, but obviously no decision has been made. The Irish could wait another week to let it play out, or they could end the drama and announce the starter and get ready to prep for Miami. If they are pretty much even at this point, it makes more sense to continue the battle and give them time for the guy to emerge. It's going to be a tough choice, but one that will have to eventually be made for Notre Dame.
