Seoul to enhance Hangang Bus accessibility
A pilot program for the city's new eco-friendly waterborne public transportation system began in July and has since identified several areas that need to be upgraded or improved. In particular, limited accessibility to the docks was found to be a major shortcoming.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government created new bus lines and adjusted some existing bus routes to connect them to areas near the water bus docks in Magok, Mangwon, Yeouido, Oksu, Apgujeong, Ttukseom and Jamsil on Aug. 1.
However, access to the Hangang Bus is expected to become more convenient with the free shuttles and additional rental stations for Seoul's official bike rental service Ddareungi, according to the city government.
Though the exact date for the shuttle's official launch has not yet been decided, morning and evening test runs will be made at the Magok and Jamsil docks. The shuttles will carry Hangang Bus passengers to nearby subway stations from Aug. 12.
According to the city government, shuttles will be operated at the Magok, Apgujeong and Jamsil docks, taking Hangang Bus passengers to the nearby subway stations: Yangcheong Hyanggyo Station on Seoul Subway Line No. 9, Apgujeong Station on Seoul Subway Line No. 3 and Jamsilsaenae Station on Seoul Subway Line No. 2, respectively.
Shuttles that depart from Magok Dock will also make stops at Balsan Station on Seoul Subway Line No. 5. while routes for the Jamsil shuttles will include Sports Complex Station on Seoul Subway Line No. 2.
The shuttles will be available on weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The Magok shuttle will run 12 times a day at 15-minute intervals, and the Jamsil shuttle will run 36 times a day with the same departure interval. The Apgujeong shuttles will run eight times a day, 30 minutes apart.
Additionally, the city government will install new Ddareungi rental stations within a three-minute walking distance of the Hangang Bus docks.

Seoul cracks down on taxis overcharging foreign tourists
The Seoul municipal government announced Wednesday it would launch a 100-day special crackdown on cab drivers' unfair treatment of overseas tourists. The initiative will focus on illegal taxi activities such as overcharging, demanding tips, refusing to pick passengers up for short rides, and other inconveniences experienced by many overseas tourists when hailing taxis here. The crackdown will take place in airports as well as tourist attractions in Seoul, such as the Myeong-dong shopping district. In the capital's downtown, Seoul Metropolitan Government civil servants will penalize taxis that refuse to take overseas tourists on short trips; taxis that wait for foreign customers to demand prices above standard rates; and taxis that overcharge tourists at night. The 100-day crackdown is designed to "rectify illegal taxi activities ahead of the peak tourism season in South Korea," according to Yeo Jang-kwon, head of the transportation office of the Seoul Metropolitan Government. The initiative will be in line with efforts by Seoul this year to bust 139 cases of overcharging at airports near Seoul, and 109 cases of taxi drivers refusing to accept foreign national passengers for short rides, as of the end of June. The regular crackdown has taken place since 2015. According to Seoul, visitors to Korea can also report taxi-related issues via card-sized survey slips available at Incheon Airport and Gimpo Airport. The card links users to a survey via QR code, which can be used to report violations. This service is available in English, Chinese and Japanese. In Seoul, a base fare for a single standard taxi ride up to 1.6 kilometers is 4,800 won ($3.46). An additional 100 won is charged for every 131 meters of travel. The base fare for cabs at night ranges from 5,800 won to 6,700 won, depending on the time of the ride.

Seoul to expand monthly transit pass to cover Hanam
People traveling from Hanam, Gyeonggi Province, by subway will be able to use 'Climate Card' — Seoul's monthly transit pass, starting from this weekend, the Seoul Metropolitan Government said Tuesday. The Climate Card is a rechargeable monthly transit pass that offers unlimited access to public transportation within Seoul and select neighboring cities on the city's outskirts. Starting Saturday, people can use the pass at four Hanam-based subway stops — Misa Station, Hanam Pungsan Station, Hanam City Hall Station and Hanam Geomdansan Station — on Seoul Subway Line No. 5, meaning the Climate Card will now be accepted at all 56 stations on the line. The expansion of the Climate Card in Hanam is part of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's effort to make its transit pass accessible for commuters traveling between Seoul and its neighboring cities for work and school. SMG says the service expansion will greatly enhance transportation convenience for the card users, in addition to the six Seoul bus lines that already accept the Climate Card stopping at Hanam. Seoul's monthly transit pass can now be used at the subway stations located in nine other cities of Gyeonggi Province, including Gimpo, Goyang and Seongnam. The pass is available in both digital app-based and physical formats for up to 65,000 won ($47) a month. And the short-term Climate Card for tourists are also available for one to seven days. The physical pass can be purchased at the customer safety rooms in subway stations on Seoul Subway Line No. 1 to 8 as well as at nearby convenience stores. 'We expect to enhance mobility between Seoul and the Greater Seoul area by expanding the Climate Card program to Hanam, a city that shares its daily life, including commuting, schooling, shopping and cultural activities, with Seoul. We will continue to actively cooperate with relevant agencies to provide diverse policy benefits,' Seoul Metropolitan Government official said in a press release on Tuesday. The city government added that it attempts to improve transportation convenience by introducing additional discounts for youths, parents of multiple children and low-income households in the second half of this year.
