Disgraced sub Alley Bardfield, 34, also exchanged messages and explicit photos with the boy over SnapChat and sent him hundreds of dollars through CashApp over several months, a police statement alleges. The sixth-grade victim's mother discovered $700 in CashApp payments from Bardfield when she checked her son's phone after noticing his behavior had changed following a stayover at the teacher's house in Mount Zion, according to a sworn police statement obtained by WCIA. The substitute teacher invited the boy to multiple 'play dates' at her home in 2023 and then twice in March 2024, during which time the pair had two sexual encounters, according to a lawsuit filed by the child's parents and seen by WCIA. Rantoul man found guilty of predatory criminal sexual assault
RANTOUL, Ill. (WCIA) — A jury deliberated for less than thirty minutes on Wednesday before delivering a guilty verdict to a 39-year-old Rantoul man accused of two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault. Champaign County State's Attorney Julia Rietz said the jury trial took place July 29 and 30. Family, friends gather to grieve train crash victim, honor him with balloon release Evidence presented in court indicated that the sexual abuse occurred between October 2021 and February 2022 in Rantoul. The Rantoul Police Department began to investigate Joshua Nibbe in April of 2022 after the child's mother had reported that her child had been sexually abused by Nibbe. The child was 11 at the time of disclosure, but the abuse had been going on since the child was 10 years old. The State's Attorney's Office filed criminal charges on June 22, 2022. Nibbe was arrested on June 29, 2022 and has been in custody at the Champaign County Correctional Center since. Predatory criminal sexual assault is a class X felony and carries between 6 to 60 years in prison. Since Nibbe was found guilty on two counts, Rietz said he will serve his sentences one after the other, rather than at the same time. Everyday Heroes: Champaign 9-year-old saves great grandma's life A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for Oct. 6, 2025 at 9 a.m. During the trial, lead Prosecutor Joel Fletcher presented evidence from investigators with the Rantoul Police Department and from Children's Advocacy Center Forensic Interviewer Mary Bunyard in support of the child's testimony.
