New MN Vikings Out with Long-Term Injuries
As the draft went on and KAM continued to make picks, he targeted depth. That's where tight end Gavin Bartholomew comes in. The sixth round pick added a tight end option behind starters T.J. Hockenson and Josh Oliver.
Unfortunately for him, and the Vikings, that depth won't be realized any time soon.

Gavin Bartholomew will miss real time for Minnesota Twins
Minnesota liked what they saw from Pittsburgh's tight end Gavin Bartholomew. The 6'4″ 260 pound athlete put up the best season of his collegiate career as a senior. Now he's going to be on the shelf for quite some time. Local insider Darren 'Doogie' Wolfson weighed in on his latest Scoops episode with Skor North.
'If you want to talk long term, Gavin Bartholomew. Who I don't think was going to be a big part of their September plans. If you had asked me in early-June, ok early 53-man roster projection, I would have told you…he makes the roster. He is not going to be ready in September…Gavin Bartholomew I am told, is a long-term injury.

As Wolfson noted, there's no reason to believe a sixth round pick was going to be a key part of the offense. That said, the Vikings don't have a Nick Muse-type around anymore, and depth is necessary. Bartholomew's injury is likely why veteran Nick Vannett was brought in as well.
In his senior season for Pittsburgh, Bartholomew hauled in 38 passes for 322 yards. He also found paydirt four times.

This back injury certainly isn't the way the rookie wanted to start his professional career. Now behind the eight ball out of the gate, he'll need to get healthy before he can even be a consideration on Sundays.
Matt Nelson out long term for MN Vikings
Just last week the MN Vikings signed offensive lineman Matt Nelson as additional depth up front. The line is a place where Minnesota has spent considerable money this offseason. Unfortunately he's done before he'll ever get started.
After spending four seasons in Detroit, and being out of the league last year, Nelson is dealing with even more adversity. A torn biceps will require surgery and certainly a significant amount of time on the shelf.
It's probable that he doesn't see action at all this season. He'll be looking for another opportunity in 2026 as a 30-year-old.

NFL preseason roundup: Russell Wilson, Jaxson Dart shine in Giants debuts
Free agent signee Russell Wilson completed 6 of 7 passes for 28 yards on the Giants' opening drive that ended in a 53-yard field goal, and rookie first-rounder Jaxson Dart followed with a 12-for-19 performance that included 154 yards and a touchdown as the New York' Giants recorded a 34-25 win over the Buffalo Bills on Saturday at Orchard Park, N.Y. Another first-year Giant, Jameis Winston, entered in the second half and went 7-of-11 for 62 yards and a score in a game that featured four lead changes after the intermission. Jude McAtamney drilled a 42-yard field goal with 7:13 left in the fourth quarter to give New York the lead for good. Later in the period, the Giants recovered a fumble deep in Buffalo territory and capitalized with an 8-yard touchdown pass from Tommy DeVito to Jonathan Ward to give the visitors a nine-point lead with 2:11 to play. Buffalo's Mitchell Trubisky, making the start while reigning MVP Josh Allen rested, completed 9 of 13 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown. Mike White then came on to throw for 112 yards and two scores on 8-for-13 passing. Vikings 20, Texans 10 JJ McCarthy made his NFL return a year after missing the 2024 season with a right knee injury, completing 4 of 7 passes for 30 yards as Minnesota opened the preseason with a victory over Houston in Minneapolis. Sam Howell was 11-for-13 for 105 yards for the Vikings, who won their fourth straight preseason game. Howell also had a rushing score for Minnesota, which outgained the Texans 261-194. Houston led only once in the game, as Davis Mills connected with Braxton Berrios for a 14-yard touchdown to put the Texans up 7-3 with under four minutes to go in the first quarter. Mills completed 4 of 5 passes for 50 yards as the starter. The Vikings lost wide receiver and punt returned Rondale Moore in the second quarter. After returning a punt two yards, Moore was tackled near the sideline and remained on the ground. He was carted off the field with a leg injury, a year after missing the 2024 season with a right knee injury. --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2025 - All Rights Reserved

Vikings WR Justin Jefferson assures fans he will return 'real soon'
Minnesota Vikings fans have understandably been concerned about Justin Jefferson's latest injury. The four-time All-Pro wide receiver, however, provided some assurance ahead of his team's preseason opener against the Houston Texans on Saturday. Sidelined since July 24 with a strained left hamstring, Jefferson -- who was not in the lineup for Saturday's matchup -- delivered a simple message via the NFL's social media account on X. "Don't worry," Jefferson said, "Jet's gonna be on that field real soon. Real soon." That optimism from the 26-year-old should ease concerns, especially considering Jefferson missed seven games in 2023 with a torn right hamstring. The sixth-year pro took himself out of the Vikings' practice on July 24, telling reporters afterward that he felt "tightness" in both legs and did not want to risk further damage. According to Minnesota coach Kevin O'Connell, a follow-up MRI exam showed a "very mild" strain. O'Connell also noted that, even if Jefferson was completely healthy, he would not have participated in the Vikings' preseason games. "The best thing is we avoided anything serious," O'Connell said at the time. "I see no concerns in regards to [Week 1] and have no worry at all that we'll be able to get Justin ready to go for the regular season." The 2022 Offensive Player of the Year, Jefferson has recorded more receiving yards (7,432) than any other player through five NFL seasons. He already ranks fourth in franchise history in receiving yards and first in receiving yards per game (96.5), which also ranks first in NFL history. --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2025 - All Rights Reserved
