New MN Vikings Out with Long-Term Injuries
The Minnesota Vikings didn't have a ton of draft capital this season but they looked to make the most out of their picks. General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah went with a need first at guard in Donovan Jackson. As the draft went on and KAM continued to make picks, he targeted depth. That's where tight end Gavin Bartholomew comes in. The sixth round pick added a tight end option behind starters T.J. Hockenson and Josh Oliver. Unfortunately for him, and the Vikings, that depth won't be realized any time soon. The 6'4″ 260 pound athlete put up the best season of his collegiate career as a senior. Now he's going to be on the shelf for quite some time. Local insider Darren 'Doogie' Wolfson weighed in on his latest Scoops episode with Skor North. 'If you want to talk long term, Gavin Bartholomew. Who I don't think was going to be a big part of their September plans. If you had asked me in early-June, ok early 53-man roster projection, I would have told you…he makes the roster. He is not going to be ready in September…Gavin Bartholomew I am told, is a long-term injury. Darren Wolfson – Skor North As Wolfson noted, there's no reason to believe a sixth round pick was going to be a key part of the offense. That said, the Vikings don't have a Nick Muse-type around anymore, and depth is necessary. Bartholomew's injury is likely why veteran Nick Vannett was brought in as well. In his senior season for Pittsburgh, Bartholomew hauled in 38 passes for 322 yards. He also found paydirt four times. Related: This back injury certainly isn't the way the rookie wanted to start his professional career. Now behind the eight ball out of the gate, he'll need to get healthy before he can even be a consideration on Sundays. Matt Nelson out long term for MN Vikings Just last week the MN Vikings signed offensive lineman Matt Nelson as additional depth up front. The line is a place where Minnesota has spent considerable money this offseason. Unfortunately he's done before he'll ever get started. After spending four seasons in Detroit, and being out of the league last year, Nelson is dealing with even more adversity. A torn biceps will require surgery and certainly a significant amount of time on the shelf. It's probable that he doesn't see action at all this season. He'll be looking for another opportunity in 2026 as a 30-year-old. Vikings sign TE Nick Vannett, waive OT Marcellus Johnson
The Vikings have made a pair of roster moves on Monday. Minnesota announced the club has signed tight end Nick Vannett and waived offensive tackle Marcellus Johnson. Vannett, 32, spent last season with the Titans. He caught 17 passes for 135 yards with three touchdowns, playing all 17 games with 10 starts. A Seattle third-round pick in 2016, Vannett has appeared in a total of 111 games with 53 starts for the Seahawks, Steelers, Broncos, Saints, Giants, Chargers, and Titans. He's caught 108 passes for 1,012 yards with nine touchdowns. The Vikings have a couple of injury concerns at tight end. T.J. Hockenson left Saturday's practice early due to an undisclosed injury and Gavin Bartholomew has been on the physically unable to perform list with a back issue.

Minnesota Vikings extend TE Josh Oliver
How many games will the Vikings win this season? How many games will the Vikings win this season? How many games will the Vikings win this season? The Minnesota Vikings announced a contract extension Tuesday for Josh Oliver, the team's No. 2 tight end whose size and strength make him a premier blocker in both the running and passing game. The Vikings said it's a three-year extension for Oliver, but did not disclose the financial details. Though Oliver logged career highs in yards (258) and touchdowns (three) last season, his main job in the Vikings' offense is blocking while No. 1 tight end T.J. Hockenson handles the big plays through the air. Still, Oliver's size makes him a red zone threat and he's good for a rumbling, stumbling gain a couple of times a year. The Vikings signed Oliver as a free agent in 2023. Last season, with Hockenson out for the first few games of the season due to injury, he played 56% of offensive snaps, a career high. He also contributed on special teams. After Hockenson and Oliver, the Vikings have sixth-round rookie Gavin Bartholomew on the roster, along with undrafted rookies Bryson Nesbit and Ben Yurosek. They also signed free agent Giovanni Ricci on Tuesday. Oliver and the rest of the tight ends will be catching passes from second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy, on whom the Vikings are pinning their hopes for a franchise passer.

Breaking: Vikings select tight end Gavin Bartholomew in sixth round
Breaking: Vikings select tight end Gavin Bartholomew in sixth round The Minnesota Vikings have been known for collecting and using a variety of tight ends on their roster, so what's one more? The Minnesota Vikings selected Pittsburgh tight end Gavin Bartholomew in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft on Saturday. The former Panther played a dual role in their offense in college, where he had been in mostly blocking assignments his first couple of college seasons before the team had quarterback Eli Holstein emerge in 2024, and so did his receiving chops. Bartholomew isn't a great route runner; he won't wow you with his movement skills, but he runs hard and has strong hands. Because of that, he is going to find the field early in his career with the Vikings. The team lost Johnny Mundt in free agency, I fully expect him to earn that role by the end of training camp and be a good piece of the offense for J.J. McCarthy and company.
