Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" Makes History as First Movie to Shot Entirely with Imax Cameras

Christopher Nolan always makes supersized blockbusters, but his upcoming 'The Odyssey' will be his most supersized effort yet.
"The Odyssey' will be the first movie shot entirely with Imax cameras.
Nolan is currently in production on the epic, which stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, and more.
Nolan has been building toward making a movie entirely with Imax cameras since 2008, when 'The Dark Knight' became the first Hollywood movie to utilize Imax cameras to shoot select action scenes. Since then, Nolan has used Imax cameras for increasingly more scenes with every new release. His 2023 Oscar winner 'Oppenheimer' was the first movie to use Imax black-and-white 65mm film.
'The Odyssey' is being shot by cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema, who has collaborated with Nolan on 'Interstellar,' 'Dunkirk,' 'Tenet' and 'Oppenheimer.'
He won the best cinematography Oscar for the latter film and spoke to
Variety
at the time about working with Nolan and Kodak to create the first stock of Imax 65mm black-and-white film.
'Black and white film doesn't exist for 65 millimeters, so our first challenge was starting to talk to Kodak about if they could provide us with the necessary film stock that we needed for this film,' Hoytema said. 'We needed to re-engineer the cameras as well because those cameras have these pressure plates behind the film gates that are made out of metal and the backing is much thinner than color stock. The light would bleed back into the films creating all these artifacts.'
Nolan adapted Homer for 'The Odyssey' and is re-teaming with 'Oppenheimer' studio Universal Pictures for the movie's release.
At Cinema Con earlier this year, Jim Orr, the studio's distribution chief, predicted that 'The Odyssey' will be 'a visionary, once-in-a-generation cinematic masterpiece that Homer himself would quite likely be proud of.'
'The Odyssey' is set for release in theaters on July 27, 2026.

Florence Pugh Stars in Yungblud's Latest Music Video 'Zombie"

Yara Sameh Florence Pugh's latest starring role is in Yungblud's music video for his new track 'Zombie.' Released Friday, the Oscar-nominated actress leads the video as a medical professional struggling with the demands of her personal and professional life. Throughout, Yungblud sings about masking away pain and slipping into a zombie-like state while Pugh's performance delivers his lyrics. 'Oh, I know that I can't live without you / But this world will keep turning if you do / Would you even want me looking like a zombie? / Would you even want me, want me, want me?' he sings throughout the track. By the end of the video, a pair of angel wings appear on Pugh's shoulders. Of the track, Yunblud disclosed that 'Zombie' was 'written initially about my grandmother going through serious injury and trauma, leading her to become a different person to who she was before.' 'It's about the feeling of deterioration and ugliness; shutting out the world and the people we love out of the fear of becoming a burden or an embarrassment,' he said. 'We all want someone or something to comfort us no matter how we are right now or who we become in the future. But it's fucking scary.' Pugh recently starred in the MCU's latest movie "Thunderbolts*" where she led an 'unconventional team of antiheroes' alongside Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Olga Kurylenko, Wyatt Russell, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The music video was directed by Charlie Sarsfield and produced by Untold Studios as part of the English singer's forthcoming album, Idols. 'Zombie' is the third release from the record, following 'Lovesick Lullaby' and 'Hello Heaven, Hello.' "Idols" arrives June 20 via Locomotion/Capitol Records. Yungblud heads out on his Idols World Tour this summer, commencing in Los Angeles on August 23. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan

"Sukkar 2" Gets Streaming Date

Yara Sameh The second entry of the Egyptian family musical film "Sukkar" will make its streaming debut exclusively on the "Shahid" streaming platform on Friday, June 6. The film draws inspiration from U.S. writer Jean Webster's epistolary novel 'Daddy-Long-Legs' and is touted as the Arab world's first musical film in the Western canon. 'Sukkar' features singer Hala Turk, who rose to prominence after being an 'Arabs Got Talent' contestant in 2011, in the lead role alongside a wide range of new young talents from the Arab world. The cast also includes Magda Zaki, Mohamed Tharwat, Reham Elshanawany, Yasmina, Mohamed Harby, Moataz Hesham, and others. The official logline for the film reads:"A beautiful day turns disastrous when the city is struck by a chickenpox outbreak, affecting children and workers at the orphanage. While a doctor develops a vaccine, the children seek help from a magician. Amid these events, Sukkar receives an invitation to the annual circus, where she uncovers a truth that turns her life—and the lives of her friends—upside down." The first entry hit cinemas across the Middle East and North Africa on October 12, 2023 by Beirut-based Empire Entertainment, which is one of the region's top movie distributors. It is scripted by Kuwaiti writer Heba Mishari Hamadai, helmed by Egyptian director Tamer Mahdy, and produced by Saudi-owned broadcasting powerhouse MBC Group in its first. 'Sukkar' also features original songs penned by Hamada and scored by Egyptian composer Ehad Abdel Wahed. The film's lead producer is Samar Akrouk, the group director of production at MBC Group, alongside MBC executive producer Lara Ghazal Nassif and MBC producer Alaa Awada, with executive producer Tamer Mortada and producer Mostafa Al Awadi from Egypt's Aroma Productions. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks
