Gulf Insider12-05-2025

Sad to see one of your favourite destinations wrapping up for the summer? The good news is that Dubai's Global Village, one of the UAE's top family attractions, has announced a one-week extension of Season 29.
Visitors can still head over to the tourist hotspot as the shopping destination extended its closing date to May 18 in an announcement on Sunday. The iconic tourist spot was previously set to close its gates on May 11. The destination will operate until May 18 from 4pm to 1am every day.
Recently announced offers will continue to be available until the season's closure. These include the 'Kids Go Free' offer, allowing children under 12 to enter the park free of charge, as well as the 'Carnaval offer', providing a selection of unlimited rides in the Carnaval area for just Dh50, and the 'Golden Bar Challenge', where participants have the chance to win Dh2,900 in cash by lifting a golden bar from a box — part of a total prize pool of Dh87,000.
Before season ends, 250 dining options are still available to explore, some of which are only available at Global Village. These include a number of savoury delicacies and sweet treats, made of mouthwatering flavours and with a unique presentation.
Global Village announced that fireworks displays will light up the skies to celebrate the grand finale next Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
This is not the first time Global Village has extended its season. Last year, the attraction announced the extension of season 28 from April 28 to May 5. Few days later it announced a further extension to May 8 due to high demand.
It had also increased its operating hours during the extension period to cater to the high demand.
Meanwhile, in 2022, Global Village extended its 26th season from April 10 to May 7.
As the season draws to a close, Global Village is wrapping up with a range of exciting new additions and experiences. This year, the park has expanded its offerings to include more cultural showcases, new entertainment acts, and upgraded infrastructure — all aimed at enhancing the visitor experience.
It had also lined up a series of stunning acts and performances as Global Village was set to close by Sunday.

Singer slammed with BD6,000 fine for refusing to pay lyricist

A singer who refused to pay for lyrics has been ordered by the High Civil Court to compensate the poet BD6,000. The story began when the poet, a well-known figure in Bahrain's music scene, wrote three songs and handed them over to the singer based on a simple verbal agreement: payment would follow. But the money never came. After the poet's repeated friendly reminders were met with silence, her lawyer, Aisha Janahi, took the dispute to court. Janahi revealed that her client had worked with the singer since 2016, with their latest collaboration in 2020. Each song was valued at BD2,000, yet despite numerous requests, the singer kept delaying payment. Adding fuel to the fire, the poet demanded the court ban any use or broadcast of the songs on all platforms until the matter was settled. The songs had already been performed publicly and aired on TV and radio, both in Bahrain and overseas, without a single fils paid to the creator. The singer tried to dodge responsibility, claiming there was no proof the lyrics belonged to the poet and that the songs hadn't been officially registered. The court wasn't convinced. It ruled this wasn't about copyright but a straightforward sale of lyrics—something both parties had agreed on. Witnesses backed up the poet's case, explaining that in the music business, payment usually comes before a song is performed or delivered. The poet followed this practice with all her clients. To seal the deal, the court asked the poet to take a sworn oath confirming she had sold the three songs at BD2,000 each—and that she hadn't received a single dinar. With that, the court found the singer guilty of failing to meet her obligations and ordered her to pay the full BD6,000 to the poet—justice served for the unpaid creator.

Indian Expat Arrested For Using Ambulance To Transport Unauthorized Pilgrims To Makkah

Saudi authorities have arrested two expatriates for attempting to transport individuals without Hajj permits into Makkah, in separate incidents as part of ongoing efforts to enforce regulations ahead of this year's pilgrimage season. On Friday, security forces apprehended an Indian national who used an ambulance to transport three residents and one visa violator, all of whom lacked Hajj permits. The driver was stopped en route to Makkah, and all involved have been referred to the relevant committee for the application of prescribed penalties. A day earlier, on Thursday, security forces also detained an Egyptian national driving a bus carrying 22 individuals who were violating Hajj regulations. The driver and the unauthorized pilgrims were intercepted and referred for disciplinary action. Saudi Arabia continues to warn against violating Hajj regulations, which are designed to ensure the safety and orderly conduct of the pilgrimage. Authorities urge prospective pilgrims to adhere strictly to official procedures and avoid dealing with unauthorized or fraudulent offers. Under current regulations, a fine of up to SR100,000 (approximately $27,000) may be imposed on anyone caught transporting individuals holding visit visas or other non-Hajj permits into Makkah or the holy sites. The fine increases per person and includes possible vehicle confiscation under court order. A separate fine of up to SR20,000 (approximately $5,300) applies to individuals found attempting to perform Hajj without a permit, including those carrying visit visas or illegally entering Makkah or the holy sites. These penalties remain in effect until June 10. The Council of Senior Scholars in Saudi Arabia reaffirmed in a statement the obligation of securing a Hajj permit, stating that performing the pilgrimage without one is sinful. The council stressed that permits help prevent serious health and logistical risks, ensure the safety of pilgrims, and support the efficient management of services and crowd movement. It added that violations not only endanger the individual but also impact others who follow the proper procedures.
