Last Updated:
Tim Seifert will replace Jacob Bethell in Royal Challengers Bengaluru squad as the latter will join England for ODIs against West Indies starting May 29.
Veteran Kiwi wicketkeeper-batter Tim Seifert has replaced Jacob Bethell in the Royal Challengers Bengaluru squad, as the latter is all set to leave to perform his duties for the England national team, who will be taking on the West Indies in three ODIs starting May 29.
The replacement will be effective from Saturday, May 24, as Bethell will leave after Bengaluru's match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 23.
Notably, Seifert is playing for the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League, and his arrival in India will depend on how his franchise progresses.
Karachi are all set to play the Pakistan Super League Eliminator against the Lahore Qalandars on Thursday night, while the final is slated for Sunday, May 25 in Lahore.
Opening the innings with David Warner in Karachi, Seifert has till now scored 226 runs in nine innings as an opener at a strike rate of 145.8.
Seifert, who has scored 1540 runs in 66 T20s for the Blackcaps, has played just three games in the Indian Premier League and last featured in the tournament three years ago for the Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders. He will join Bengaluru for Rs 2 crores.
Bethell's last match with RCB will be on Friday when they take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad, which was moved from Bengaluru to Lucknow due to adverse weather conditions in the former. Their final league match will be against the Lucknow Super Giants on May 27.
Bethell has till now featured in two games for Bengaluru in his maiden Indian Premier League season.
Last Friday, Bengaluru director Mo Bobat said that they had been in touch with Cricket Australia over Hazlewood, but they were adopting a wait-and-watch approach as he recovers from a shoulder niggle that he picked up ahead of RCB's game against Chennai.
Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans and the Mumbai Indians are the other franchises to have made the play-offs.

Virat Kohli 'Absolutely Gutted' After Stampede Kills 11 During RCB Victory Celebrations
Last Updated: RCB Parade Stampede News: Virat Kohli was part of the RCB's IPL victory celebrations when a stampede outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium resulted in the death of 11 people. RCB Parade Stampede News: The Bengaluru stampede that caused the death of 11 people outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday has resulted in an outpouring of grief with India cricketer Virat Kohli 'absolutely gutted". Thousands had gathered outside the cricket stadium to catch a glimpse of Royal Challengers Bengaluru cricketers who later arrived at the venue as part of their first ever IPL title celebrations. The chaos unfolded after a massive crowd gathered outside the stadium and at the Vidhana Soudha – nearly triple of what was initially estimated. As per a senior police officer, the incident happened because the public didn't pay heed o their advisories. 'People did not heed our advisories or the repeated public announcements asking them to disperse. They were determined to reach the venue no matter what," the official said on condition of anonymity to News18. Taking to social media, Kohli wrote, 'At a loss for words. Absolutely gutted" while resharing an official statement from his IPL franchise RCB. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased while slamming the organisers of the event. 'It is very unfortunate. This is a negative side of popularity. People are crazy for cricketers. The organisers should have planned it better. My deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. I wish early recovery of the injured," Saikia told news agency PTI. 'When one organises a victory celebration of this magnitude, proper precautions, safety and security measures need to be taken. There have been some lapses somewhere. After such a glorious ending to the IPL, this has been an anti-climax," he added. The RCB squad arrived in Bengaluru on Wednesday morning before heading to Vidhana Soudha where they were felicitated by Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D K Shivakumar. They then headed to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium to continue their victory celebrations where fans had gathered to witness a musical performance before the players including RCB captain Rajat Patidar and Kohli delivered speeches. Siddaramaiah sacks political secretary over Bengaluru stampede: Who is K Govindaraju?
With the Congress government in Karnataka facing the heat following the stampede in Bengaluru on Wednesday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah sacked his political secretary K Govindaraju on Friday. The close aide of the CM became the first Cabinet-rank official to be sacked in the aftermath of the stampede that occurred outside the Chinnaswamy stadium during the IPL victory celebrations of the Royal Challengers Bangalore, leaving 11 people dead. Govindaraju, currently an MLC, conceived the idea of a victory parade and celebration at the Vidhana Soudha, the state legislature, despite the Bengaluru City Police denying permission for the event, according to multiple sources in the government and the police. 'He reportedly liaised between the state government, KSCA (Karnataka State Cricket Association) and RCB even though the police denied permission,' a source said, adding that the police, at a certain point, were kept in the dark about the communications happening between the KSCA and the state government. Sources in the Congress alleged that Govindaraju pushed the idea of a large-scale celebration as he aspired to contest the KSCA polls. Labelled the de facto 'sports minister' by a section of state Congress leaders, Govindaraju is viewed as a 'troubleshooter who operates behind the scenes'. In the last two decades, he has always occupied important positions whenever the Congress is at the helm of affairs. He has been president of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Asia, the Basketball Federation of India, and the Karnataka Olympic Association. Govindaraju has denied all the allegations and told the media on Friday that he was not involved with the RCB and 'never contacted by the KSCA'. Claiming that he was disturbed by the sequence of events, he told The Indian Express, 'It has happened over a minor issue and nothing big. I will speak to you next week.' Hailing from a family of bureaucrats from Kolar, sources said Govindaraju had access to the corridors of power as his elder brother is an IAS officer promoted from the state services. A senior Congress leader credited Govindaraju's 'entreprising behaviour and never-say-no attitude' for his rise in the echelons of power. 'He first came into contact with state Minister K J George and then with (former CM) S M Krishna. He is seen as a man who caters to the needs of powerful politicians,' a leader said. Govindaraju also had a stint in electoral politics when he made his Assembly poll debut from the Shivajinagar seat in 1999. But he lost the election. He continued to remain a part of the state power circles and was elected MLC in 2012. He also served as Siddaramaiah's parliamentary secretary between 2015 and 2018. Seen in Congress circles as the party's 'fundraiser', Govindaraju found himself in the centre of a controversy in 2017 after Income Tax officials recovered a diary from him with details of payments worth Rs 600 crore allegedly made to senior Congress leaders.

Kohli could come out of Test retirement if India fails in England
New Delhi: Former Australia captain Michael Clarke believes Virat Kohli, who considers Test cricket as the pinnacle, could come out of retirement if India suffer a heavy defeat in the upcoming five-Test series in England and is requested to return by the team management and selectors. Kohli had announced his retirement from the longest format last month after featuring in 123 Tests for India, scoring 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85, including 30 centuries. 'I believe this. If India go to England and get flogged, if they lose the series 5-0 for example, I think the fans will want Virat Kohli to come out of retirement and play Test cricket again,' Clarke told the Beyond23 Cricket podcast on Friday. 'And I honestly, I think if he was asked by the captain, selectors and supported by fans, if they get beaten big time in England, I think he'll come. He still loves Test cricket. 'I think his words, I think those words, like you could hear his passion for Test cricket is real.' Following his long-cherished dream of winning the IPL with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Kohli had said the title triumph still ranked 'five levels under Test cricket'.
