Utah passes new protections for children of influencers after Ruby Franke case
Republican Gov. Spencer Cox signed a law that gives kids a way to remove media they are featured in from the internet. It also orders parents who make more than $150,000 off the content annually to set aside 15 percent of those earnings into a trust fund that the children can access once they turn 18 years old.
Cox signed the law under encouragement from Franke's now ex-husband, Kevin, after he told lawmakers earlier this year that he wishes he never let his ex-wife post their children online, The Associated Press reported.
'Children cannot give informed consent to be filmed on social media, period,' he said. 'Vlogging my family, putting my children into public social media, was wrong, and I regret it every day.'
Kevin and Ruby Franke launched a family YouTube channel titled '8 Passengers' in 2015. Ruby Franke documented their life as a Mormon family in Utah and became close with parenting content creator Jodi Hildebrandt, who encouraged her to cut off ties with Kevin Franke and move the youngest two children into her home.
Ruby Franke's 12-year-old son, who was emaciated, escaped through a window and knocked on a neighbor's door. The two women were arrested on child abuse charges. The eldest child detailed his mother's obsession with 'striking content gold' and looking for views on videos at the expense of her children.
The new Utah law applies to children who are featured in online content as well as those who appear in TV or movies.
Eve Franke, 11, who police found emaciated with her head shaved, wrote a letter in support of the bill and noted that sometimes YouTube is a good thing that 'brings us together,' but 'kids deserve to be loved, not used by the ones that are supposed to love them the most,' The Associated Press reported.
Several other states have taken steps to protect children from online exploitation in the content-creation industry, including Illinois, California and Minnesota, where children's earnings are protected.

Celeb Voter Rregistrations: Republicans And Democrats
Florida! Home of many notable things, including publicly accessible voter registration records. Florida is also a closed primary state, meaning that you essentially can only vote in the primaries for the party you're registered with. As such, you might be curious as to how certain famous figures who reside there are currently registered. It's worth noting that the date of registration could reflect a change in address rather than a change in political party. Here's what the records say under "party": Sydney Sweeney: Republican The actor has been registered with the Republicans since June 2024, when it was reported that she'd bought an oceanfront mansion close to Key West. Guy Fieri: Republican Guy has been registered with the Republican Party of Florida since October 2023. After the election, he said, "Now that our country's made a gigantic pivotal change, we're going to get back to doing what we do, and that is being the best country in the world." Karlie Kloss: Democrat Despite being married to Joshua Kushner, Karlie has long been open about voting blue. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson: Democrat Dwayne refused to endorse a candidate in the 2024 election and has voted Republican and Democrat before. As for now, he's been a registered Democrat since 2018. Jeff Bezos: No Party Affiliation Despite shutting down the Washington Post's endorsement of Kamala Harris and attending Trump's inauguration, Bezos isn't actually officially registered to either party, Sylvester Stallone: No Party Affiliation Sylvester was named as one of Trump's "special ambassadors" to Hollywood earlier this year, but he isn't actually registered with the Republican party. Witney Carson: Republican The dancer and choreographer's registration dates back to October 2023. Ramona Singer: Republican The Real Housewives of New York City alum has previously been spotted at Mar-A-Largo over the years. She's rumored to be considering her own political run. Derek Jeter: Democrat The baseball legend has been registered Democrat since 2008. John Travolta: No Party Affiliation His registration has been consistent since 2003. Finally, Tom Brady: No Party Affiliation He did sit in Trump's suite at the FIFA Club World Cup last month. Any surprises?

Intel stock drops after Trump demands its CEO 'resign immediately,' calling him 'highly conflicted'
Intel's CEO is in the political crosshairs. President Donald Trump called on Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan to resign on Thursday, adding to the challenges facing the largest US chipmaker. Trump called Tan "highly CONFLICTED" in a post on Truth Social, saying that he "must resign, immediately. There is no other solution to this problem." Intel shares fell 5% in premarket trading following Trump's post. Its share price was down over 3% as of 11 a.m. in New York. Trump's missive came two days after Sen. Tom Cotton wrote a letter to the company's board of directors raising questions about Tan's reported investments in and ownership of Chinese companies, including some with alleged ties to the Chinese military. In April, Reuters reported that Tan had invested in hundreds of Chinese companies, including eight with ties to China's People's Liberation Army. An Intel spokesperson at the time told Reuters that "we handle any potential conflicts appropriately and provide disclosures as required by SEC rules" and that Tan had filled out questionnaires requiring disclosure of any potential conflicts of interest. Sen. Tom Cotton, an Arkansas Republican, also called attention to the fact that prior to becoming Intel CEO in March, Tan was the CEO of Cadence Design Systems, a company that pleaded guilty last week to illegally exporting technology to a Chinese military university. Cadence Design Systems agreed to pay $118 million in criminal penalties. Intel received a roughly $8 billion grant from the US government under the CHIPS and Science Act, a 2022 law designed to boost the American chip manufacturing industry. "Intel is required to be a responsible steward of American taxpayer dollars and to comply with applicable security regulations," Cotton wrote. "Mr. Tan's associations raise questions about Intel's ability to fulfill these obligations." Trump's call for Tan's resignation was quickly backed up by two GOP senators — Bernie Moreno of Ohio and Rick Scott of Florida. It's the latest challenge for the company, which recently warned that it could stop developing its 14A chip if it's "unable to secure a significant external customer and meet important customer milestones." The former tech giant has been battling high volatility in the stock market all year, as it faces steep competition from rivals. Wall Street sentiment toward Intel remains mixed but skews negative, with the majority of analysts maintaining either sell or hold ratings, according to data from Markets Insider. A White House official told Business Insider that Trump "remains fully committed to safeguarding our country's national and economic security. This includes ensuring that iconic American companies in cutting-edge sectors are led by men and women who Americans can trust."

Charleston bishop rebukes Trump's 'harsh' deportations, cites George W Bush's 'acceptable' plans
Print Close By Charles Creitz Published August 07, 2025 President Donald Trump received a rare rebuke from the Catholic Church after the Bishop of Charleston released a lengthy public statement condemning the U.S. immigration system, slamming the president's mass deportation efforts while crediting former President George W. Bush's "acceptable" plans. Bishop Mark Brennan, who presides over the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston encompassing all of West Virginia, said America was "built on the backs of men and women who came from other countries, whether freely or in chains." "Now we see our government adopting harsh measures to deport as many immigrants as possible, often without distinguishing between true criminals and law-abiding persons." "A government that says it wants to help families is willing to separate immigrant parents from their children. A government that oversees the economy wants to expel millions of workers upon whom the economy depends," Brennan went on. DEMOCRATS ATTEMPTING TO VISIT BROOKLYN ICE FACILITY REPORTEDLY TRAPPED AFTER BEING REBUFFED BY AGENTS The prelate said some parishioners have spoken to him about their support for Trump during the 2024 campaign over his pledge of a secure border that is now waning due to a "wholesale assault on the majority of immigrants…" "You expected a laser beam approach, not a floodlight," Brennan said. The bishop compared some immigrants' plight to Matthew 2, which describes how Mary and Joseph fled Israel with an infant Jesus Christ. "Get up and take the child and his mother and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you. For, Herod is about to search for the child to destroy him," that Scripture reads. "Our Church looks at the person, not his or her legal status, and, following Christ's teaching and example, reaches out to help the immigrant," Bishop Brennan continued. DEMS WANTED TO DRAW EVERY REPUBLICAN OUT OF MARYLAND BUT NOW LAMBAST TEXAS REDISTRICTING "A person is more important than legal status. Even prisoners in jail are fed, clothed and have their health problems addressed, at least in well-run prisons." He went on to praise the work Catholic Charities does to help migrants, adding that illegal entry into the U.S. is on the same misdemeanor statutory level as loitering and shoplifting. Hearkening back to the 19th century, Brennan noted the Fugitive Slave Act had been used to "calm tensions" between the states and that the northern states refused to cooperate because they saw it as an unjust law. "It is Catholic teaching that an unjust law does not bind in conscience. But one must be willing to accept the consequences of civil disobedience. Martin Luther King, Jr., was willing to go to jail rather than acquiesce in unjust laws, a willingness shared by pro-life activists and people protesting nuclear arms," Brennan added. CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP The bishop, however, added that both political parties have failed to substantively address immigration reform. "Republican President George W. Bush presented an acceptable if imperfect plan to reform immigration laws, but his own party shot it down," he said. "Democratic President Barack Obama said he would act on immigration reform but, with Democrats in control of Congress his first two years, he did not do so," Brennan added. "Our politicians have failed us." The White House called the statement "rife with inaccuracies and misinformation. It's wrong and offensive to conflate ILLEGAL (sic) immigrants with legal immigrants who have followed the law and entered the country the right way." "Anyone who has broken the law and entered the United States illegally is, by definition, not a 'law-abiding person.' President Trump is keeping his promise to the American people to carry out the largest mass deportation operation in history, and unlike prior failed leaders like Joe Biden, he is empowering federal law enforcement officers to do their job and enforce the law. And without laws we are not a nation at all," said White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson. Print Close URL
