Classical violin maestro felicitated for lifetime of ragas in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: Renowned classical violin maestro and Padma Shri awardee Annavarapu Ramaswamy was conferred the prestigious 'Srimati Vasantha Varaprasad Reddy Sangeetha Ratna' award in recognition of his unparalleled contributions to Carnatic music. The felicitation ceremony, held on Sunday, was organised by the Shantha Vasantha Trust at Telangana Saraswatha Parishath in Hyderabad. Speaking at the event, Annavarapu Ramaswamy, who is stepping into his centenary year, said, 'Following the teachings of my guru, Parupalli Ramakrishnaiah Pantulu, I devoted my life to uplifting others in whatever way I could. Though I was honoured with prize money on many occasions, I chose to donate it all in the name of my guru.' He took a nostalgic trip down memory lane, recalling his days of rigorous training. 'I used to work hard. There were days when I had to fill my stomach with just water when I was hungry,' he shared, moving the audience with his humble recollections. He also highlighted the importance of the Telugu language, calling it the backbone of Carnatic music. With a career spanning over eight decades, Ramaswamy has graced both national and international stages, leaving an indelible mark on the world of classical music. Former Maharashtra Governor CH Vidyasagar Rao, who attended the event as the chief guest, described Telugu as the 'Italian of the East' and emphasised the unifying power of music and literature. 'Music and literature are remedies for many ailments. They hold the power to bind societies and erase differences,' he said. Rao also expressed concern over the declining use of the Telugu language, especially among the younger generation. 'Today, children completing their schooling are unable to even write their names in their mother tongue. Telugu, with its sophistication and beauty, must be taken to the grassroots,' he urged, calling for efforts to promote the language.

'Shilpa Shirodkar Shot Dead, Had 25 Missed Calls': Actor Recalls Raghuveer Shoot
Last Updated: Shilpa Shirodkar recalls the confusion during Raghuveer shoot. Shilpa mentions that rumours about her death were spread to promote the film. Shilpa Shirodkar was once rumoured to have died during the shoot of Raghuveer. The 1995 film starred Suniel Shetty as the titular hero, alongside Shilpa Shirodkar, Suresh Oberoi, Sudha Chandran, Mohnish Bahl, Aruna Irani, Gulshan Grover, and Prem Chopra. During the film's shoot, a rumour was circulated that Shilpa had been shot dead. This created panic at the actress's house. However, she was later told by the makers that it was a promotional activity for the film. In a recent chat with Pinkvilla, Shilpa Shirodkar recalled the misunderstanding. 'I was in Kullu Manali. My dad was trying to call the hotel because we didn't have mobile phones at that time. I was shooting with Suniel Shetty there. Everyone who was watching the shoot there kept thinking if this is Shilpa or someone else because they knew the news," she said. Shilpa added, 'When I came back to the room, there were around 20-25 missed calls. My parents were worried, there was a headline in a newspaper that Shilpa Shirodkar was shot dead." However, the film's producer later told her that it was a promotional strategy. 'When he told me, I was like 'Okay'. Yes, thoda zyada hogaya. There was no PR activity or anything at that time. Kuch pata hi nahi tha na. I was the last one to know that something like this was going to happen. No one used to take permission at that time. The film worked well, so I wasn't really angry," the actor shared. Meanwhile, Shilpa Shirodkar will next be seen in Jatadhara, a highly anticipated pan‑India supernatural thriller that marks her return to the silver screen after several years away. Jatadhara is a supernatural mystery thriller centred around the enigmatic Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple and its hidden mystical lore. It blends suspense, intrigue, and mythological elements into an atmospheric narrative. Sudheer Babu headlines the film, undergoing intense physical training for the role. Sonakshi Sinha debuts in a Telugu-Hindi bilingual project and shares the screen with Shilpa for the first time. Shilpa Shirodkar plays a key role, marking her comeback following her stint on Bigg Boss 18. Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
