Weekly Wrap-up: STI Hits 52-Week High, Extends Winning Streak

BusinessToday06-07-2025
The Singapore stock market ended the week on a strong note, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) reaching a 52-week high of 4,019.57 on July 3 before closing this week's session slightly lower at 4,014 points.
However, it marks the first time the STI has crossed the 4,000-point level, while gaining approximately 0.2% for the week, bringing its year-to-date increase to 6.1%.
The rally was driven by broad-based buying across financials, real estate and REITs, fuelled by easing global bond yields and increased risk appetite among investors. Sentiment was further boosted by favourable domestic policy signals and cooling inflationary pressures abroad.
Average daily turnover remained robust, with S$1.17 billion traded across 1.64 billion shares, underscoring strong investor interest.
Financial and property counters led the market, supported by optimism over interest rate stability and renewed confidence in Singapore's real estate sector. Notably, Bukit Sembawang Estates saw a boost following the release of strong full-year financial results, reinforcing investor faith in mid-cap property stocks.
Meanwhile, falling yields on 10-year Singapore government bonds provided additional support, making equities more attractive amid a stable monetary backdrop.
Geopolitical optimism and a cautious but constructive global outlook also contributed to the STI's momentum, with investors positioning for potential upside as second-half economic data and corporate earnings roll in.
Looking ahead, analysts expect the STI to trade within the 4,000-4,040 range, while keeping a close eye on upcoming US inflation data, global interest rate cues and regional policy developments.
Bottomline: Singapore's market is riding a wave of solid fundamentals and investor confidence, capped by a milestone week for the STI. As the second half of 2025 unfolds, investors remain cautiously optimistic, watching for macro signals that could influence the next leg of the rally. Related
