Delhi Court Allows 26/11 Accused Tahawwur Rana To Speak To Family On Phone
New Delhi: A Delhi court on Thursday allowed 26/11 Mumbai attack accused Tahawwur Hussain Rana to have phone conversations with family members for the limited purpose of discussing engagement of a private counsel, court sources said. They said special judge Chander Jit Singh passed the order in an in-chamber proceeding. At present, advocate Piyush Sachdeva from Delhi Legal Services Authority (DLSA) is Rana's legal aid counsel. Earlier, Tihar jail authorities had opposed Rana's application seeking telephonic calls with his family members. Rana is allegedly a close associate of 26/11 main conspirator David Coleman Headley, alias Daood Gilani, a US citizen. Rana was brought to India after the US Supreme Court on April 4 dismissed his review plea against his extradition to India. On November 26, 2008, a group of 10 Pakistani terrorists went on a rampage, carrying out attacks on a railway station, two luxury hotels, and a Jewish centre, sneaking into India's financial capital through the sea route. A total of 166 people were killed in the assault that lasted for nearly 60 hours.

Pakistan Cricketer Arrested In UK Over Rape Allegations, Later Released On Bail: Report
Pakistan cricket slumped to a new low with a young player, Haider Ali, who was on a tour of the United Kingdom with the country's 'A' team -- Pakistan Shaheen, was arrested by the Greater Manchester Police with sources confirming it was over a complaint by a girl, alleging rape. Haider Ali has been provisionally suspended by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), said a report. Haider was arrested by Greater Manchester Police at the Beckenham ground where Pakistan Shaheens was playing against MCSAC on August 3, reports Telecom Asia Sports. "It's apparently a rape case against a girl of Pakistani origin," a source was quoted as saying in the report. The sources confirmed that the Greater Manchester Police had seized Haider's passport but released him on bail. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said it will cooperate with the investigations and will give support to Haider to fight the case. In the meantime, the PCB has suspended Haider Ali till his name is cleared. "We were told about this case and investigation. We have suspended Haider until the investigation is completed and will conduct our own inquiry in the UK," a PCB spokesman told "Haider was in tears after he was arrested from the ground and pleaded not guilty during the investigation," said sources. Pakistan Shaheens were on a tour of the UK from July 17 to August 6 and played two three-day games, which were both drawn, a three-match One-day series that they won 2-1. Most of the players, except captain Saud Shakeel and Haider, returned from the UK on Wednesday. Shakeel stayed back in Dubai for personal reasons. The 24-year-old Haider is a talented player who played two ODIs and 35 Twenty20 internationals for Pakistan, the last in the Asian Games two years ago. He played the Under-19 World Cup for Pakistan in 2020 in South Africa, from where India's Yashasvi Jaiswal also emerged. Haider was also suspended by the PCB for breaching Covid restrictions during the 2021 Pakistan Super League in Abu Dhabi, and as a punishment withdrawn from the team to England and the West Indies in 2021. Sources said Haider was in the good books of newly recruited Pakistan white-ball head coach Mike Hesson, who was about to include him in the Pakistan team for the T20 tri-series in Sharjah later this month. Pakistan has a history of players' misbehaviour in the past. Three top players -- Salman Butt, the then test skipper, Mohammad Amir, and Mohammad Asif were arrested on charges of spot fixing on the team's tour of England in 2010. All three were jailed and banned for five years.

BSF recovers suspected spy drone near Jaisalmer's Longewala border
Jaisalmer: The Border Security Force (BSF) personnel recovered a suspicious spy drone Thursday near the Longewala border adjoining Jaisalmer. The operation was conducted by the G Branch in the sensitive area close to the India-Pakistan border. The drone, equipped with a high-efficiency camera, raised concerns about potential intelligence gathering on Indian military and BSF activities. M L Garg, Inspector General of BSF Rajasthan Frontier, confirmed the recovery. He said, "A thorough investigation is currently underway to determine whether the drone was flown from within Indian territory or launched from across the border." Garg added that the camera on the drone is also being examined. According to official sources, the BSF G Branch received a secret tip-off about a suspicious drone with a camera that fell near the border Thursday. Senior BSF officials responded promptly, seized the drone, and initiated an investigation. Given that the drone is manufactured in China, officials believe it is less likely that it was operated locally within Indian territory. The Longewala region, a highly sensitive area and the site of a battlefield during the 1971 India-Pakistan war, hosts a year-round military presence from both the army and BSF. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 100% Online, Flexible Learning BITS Pilani Digital Apply Now Undo BSF vigilance extends approximately 15 km from the international borders. It is speculated that Pakistan may have launched this spy drone across the border to gather information on the movements and activities of Indian security forces in the area. During Operation Sindoor, a significant Indian military presence was maintained in Longewala, during which Pakistan conducted various espionage drone activities and other nefarious actions from across the border. The seized suspected drone will be sent to the Drone Forensic Lab, New Delhi to extract information regarding its origin and flight path.
