Game of Thrones and Handmaid's Tale stars spotted in 'explosive' trailer for new thriller

Daily Mirror3 days ago
Stars from two of the biggest shows of the century are going head-to-head in an upcoming thriller on Sky
Sky has just released a brand new trailer for its upcoming thriller series, Atomic, starring some very recognisable names from the world of TV.

The gripping new footage released this Thursday (14th August) promises plenty of action and jaw-dropping twists and turns throughout this high-stakes chase across North Africa and the Middle East.

Game of Thrones icon Alfie Allen leads the series as a drug smuggler who gets mixed up with wanderer JJ, played by Star Trek: Discovery's Shazad Latif.

When they find themselves inadvertently trafficking some valuable and volatile cargo, their mission catches the attention of worldwide enforcers who will stop at nothing to take them down.
The Handmaid's Tale star Samira Wiley heads up their opposition as Cassie Elliott, who's determined to bring them in after falsely connecting them to dangerous elements.
An official synopsis reads: 'When the path of free-spirited drug smuggler Max (Allen) collides with JJ (Latif), an enigmatic outsider on the run, an unlikely friendship is formed.
'They're swept into a chaotic, high-stakes mission they never signed up for— trafficking highly enriched uranium across North Africa and the Middle East, with the CIA, MI6, and a global web of opposing forces closing in fast.
'Leading the charge for the CIA is highly skilled scientist and a Non-Official Cover (NOC) officer Cassie Elliott (Wiley).

'Convinced Max and JJ are in league with violent extremists, her relentless pursuit puts them all on a collision course revealing that nothing is what it seems, and everyone has an ulterior motive.
'The pair find themselves on a wild road trip, confronting covert operatives, an internationally funded cartel, and ultimately their own pasts.

'What starts as a bid for survival slowly becomes something more: a reluctant partnership, a shot at redemption, and one hell of a ride.'
Atomic is shaping up to be one of Sky's biggest shows of the year and is set to cap off the summer with a bang.

One viewer replied to the trailer on YouTube: 'both lead actors rock - let's see how the writers are.'
And another said: 'Sky does these types of serials extremely well. They're yet to let me down. I look forward to giving this a chance.'
Is it on your radar or are you not a fan of high-octane thrill rides?
Atomic premieres Thursday, 28th August on Sky.

Restaurant launches menu just for water - with bottles costing up to £19

Michelin-guide restaurant La Popote, has released a water menu, with its co-owner, Joseph Rawlins, having worked alongside a British water sommeliers, Doran Binder, to create the selection A Michelin-guide restaurant has unveiled a water-only menu, with bottles priced at up to £19. ‌ La Popote's co-owner Joseph Rawlins teamed up with one of just five British water sommeliers, Doran Binder, to craft the unique selection. Le Popete is a fine dining French restaurant located in Cheshire. ‌ He said: "We just wanted to offer something different and Doran is mad for water... water's not just water." He added that this decision was due to an increase in interest, explaining that "if there was any negativity behind it, we wouldn't have done it". ‌ He added: "It has a wide price range so people can try something different". It comes after a state pension warning for millions of Brits who are between two specific ages. He revealed he was initially approached by Binder about the concept three years ago, but didn't give him the green light until the beginning of this year following a water tasting session. Binder has been developing the menu for the fine dining establishment for the past seven months. Diners can select from seven premium waters sourced from across Europe - four still and three sparkling. Costs begin at £5 for Binder's own Crag Spring Water and rise to £19 for a bottle of Portuguese sparkling water, The Palace of Vidago, reports Sky. ‌ In a new post, the restaurant unveils its select menu dedicated to water. Many viewers commented on the absurdity of a bottle service for H2O, with one reader named Mel writing: "What sort of idiot is going to pay £19 for a bottle of water? "Laugh & mock, but there will be a few 'hipsters' out there stupid enough to do it! Manipulation of the brainless wealthy? Certainly seems that way." On the contrary, JoH wrote: "As a non-drinker, it gets rather tedious when dining out, that you are presented with the alcohol menu as if it is an expectation. When ordering a soft drink or water, you often find yourself looking at the children's menu or no menu at all." The writer claimed: "I welcome a water menu." Bethan claimed: "What a dreadful world we inhabit where some countries lack clean running water and others import bottles of water from abroad for the obscenely rich to fritter their money away on." A third user called GrayUK highlight: "If you can pay £19 for a bottle of water, please donate at least the same amount to Water Aid." The Mirror has contacted La Popete.

Sophie Turner left 'retching' after 'vile' snog from A-List star while filming

Sophie Turner has revealed that reuniting with her former Game of Thrones co-star Kit Harington was more than a little awkward - so much so that it left her retching! Film star Sophie Turner says a snog with hunky co-star Kit Harington left them both feeling physically sick. ‌ The Game of Thrones colleagues have what they call a sibling-like relationship, forged after playing brother and sister Jon Snow and Sansa Stark in the show. But when the script dropped for upcoming gothic horror movie The Dreadful, things got a little awkward. ‌ Sophie, a producer on the film, thought Kit was perfect to play the male lead. But there was one issue - she was playing his potential love interest and the stars were left with a funny feeling after the snog. It comes after reports of Victoria Beckham's four-word comment to Geri Horner amid Spice Girls 'feud'. ‌ While on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the 29-year-old confessed: "We put it out of our minds, and then when it came to shooting, we were both retching. It was vile. Honestly, the worst." This comes as Sophie issued a savage response after she was mum-shamed over her kids. Sophie explained that while she hadn't worked with Kit since Game of Thrones wrapped in 2019, their friendly close relationship had continued off-screen. That familiarity made it almost impossible to tackle the romantic scenes they were presented with in the Dreadful. When director Natasha Kermani asked who she envisioned as the male lead in The Dreadful, she knew Kit was the obvious choice. But the reunion wasn't without it's problems, as she recalled on the show how it all got a little weird. She recalled: "I sent the script to Kit, and he came back saying, 'Yeah, I'd love to, but this is going to be really weird, Soph.' Then I went through the script again and it's just kiss, kiss, sex, kiss. And suddenly I realised, oh right, that's my brother." ‌ The awkwardness hit straight away, as their very first scene together involved kissing. She joked that even a scene from her thriller Trust, which required her to stay still in a room with cockroaches and rats crawling over her, didn't compare to that moment. "Kissing Kit was still worse," she admitted. The Dreadful is set against the backdrop of the Wars of the Roses in 15th-century England, and follows Anne, played by Sophie, as her fragile existence with her mother-in-law Morwen is upended when a man from her past returns and sparks a dangerous chain of events. The cast also features Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden, Laurence O'Fuarain, and Jonathan Howard. A release date has yet to be announced, but the film is already generating buzz thanks to its high-profile lead stars. ‌ Although Jon Snow 's true Targaryen heritage was revealed later, audiences still strongly associated him with Sansa's family, making the idea of a romance between the two particularly uncomfortable. Sophie previously joked to Vogue: "Sorry guys, it's weird for all of us." This comes after her recent confession that she once accidentally broke up a celebrity couple at a Comic-Con afterparty. A simple wave to an actor her friend admired spiralled into chaos when his fiancée confronted Turner for "flirting" with him. The pair ended their engagement that same night. Turner laughed: "Turns out, they broke their engagement off that night because of my [wave]. I didn't realise I held this power."
