Founded by Fiona Co Chan in 2021, Youthforia gained early traction with its viral BYO Blush, claims that its cosmetics products were safe to be slept in, and secured a $400,000 investment from Mark Cuban on 'Shark Tank', in 2023, his first deal with a beauty brand on the show. Later that year, the brand later a further funding round with seasoned beauty investors True Beauty Ventures and Willow Growth Partners to support its expansion into Ulta Beauty, Amazon and other retail channels.
The closure follows a major scandal in 2024, where the launch of its Date Night foundation received widespread criticism, initially for its limited range of shades for darker skin tones, and then for a subsequent line extension of darker shades which appeared to be solely a jet black pigment. Backlash from influencers, cosmetic experts, and consumers prompted retailers like Credo Beauty, Thirteen Lune, and Revolve to pull the brand from shelves, and online traffic and social media engagement dropped significantly.
In addition to appearing on 'Shark Tank', prior to its foundation controversy, the line had been featured in publications such as Allure and Vogue.

'Shark Tank' star Kevin O'Leary says he's not stressing about an AI bubble or tariff pain
The AI boom isn't going to collapse like the dot-com bubble, Investor Kevin O'Leary told Business Insider. Many people, including Nobel economist Paul Krugman, fund manager Bill Smead, and entrepreneurship professor Erik Gordon, have compared the fervor around AI to internet buzz in the late 1990s and early 2000s, which ended with a stock-market crash. But the "Shark Tank" investor and chair of O'Leary Ventures said AI wasn't "the same hype that the internet bubble was, because today, you actually can see the productivity and measure it on a dollar-by-dollar basis." O'Leary gave the example of Fly Guys, a drone company he's invested in. Other companies can commission it to scan the tops of their buildings and deliver "AI-ready aerial imagery" to identify problems and automatically create work orders for them. "That saves millions of dollars" for companies like Walmart or Home Depot with large commercial footprints, O'Leary said. He added that such savings from AI may offset tariff costs and support high valuations for stocks. Whether that's the case should be revealed in earnings over the next 12 to 18 months, he said. O'Leary thinks tariffs aren't the threat many thought Stocks plunged after Trump unveiled his plans for tariffs on "Liberation Day" in early April, but have since rebounded to record highs. The recovery shows why investors should stay in the market during downturns "even though it's nerve-racking and nail-biting," O'Leary said. The celebrity investor and self-proclaimed "Mr. Wonderful" said it can be costly to panic and dump stocks, adding he has seen investors miss out by doing this "over and over again." He added that if an investor cashed out during April's sell-off, they missed the sort of returns they might expect over three years in just 88 trading sessions. The S&P has gained around 27% from its low on April 8, and is around 12% higher than its level before the slump, far above the market's long-term annual return of about 7%. The bounceback reflects greater "clarity" over tariffs, O'Leary said, adding some were "very manageable" at 10% to 15% for trade partners such as the EU. The latest rates range from 10% for the UK to 41% for Syria. The SoftKey founder, who sold The Learning Company to Mattel in 1999, said that he would have expected to see evidence by now if tariffs were going to reignite inflation or cause a recession. The benchmark consumer price index rose only 0.2% in April, 0.1% in May, and 0.3% in June on a seasonally adjusted basis. He said the fear that tariffs would lead to "input costs killing gross margin" hasn't been realized yet, and US consumers also look to be in good shape. He called it a "remarkable situation" as "basically, everybody got it wrong" on the impact of tariffs on the economy. O'Leary said that he and his business managers were loading up on inventory in preparation for a busy holiday season. "So that gives you some indication, we're net bullish," he said.

Brandon Blackstock died weeks after 23-year-old daughter announced pregnancy
Kelly Clarkson's ex-husband was months away from welcoming a grandchild when he died of cancer. Brandon Blackstock, who managed Clarkson before marrying her in 2013 and separating in 2020, died earlier this week after a three-year battle with cancer, according to NBC News. His death was announced on Aug. 7. He was 48. The news came one month after his 23-year-old daughter Savannah Blackstock-Lee, whom he shares with his first wife, Melissa Ashworth, announced that she was pregnant with her husband, Quentin Lee. 'We've been keeping a couple sweet surprises,' Blackstock-Lee wrote in a July 5 Instagram post, per People. 'One little girl will be making her arrival at the beginning of January and another beautiful girl named Julianna who has already been one of the greatest blessings to our family,' she continued in the post. 'This journey has been so special full of peace, excitement, and so much grace. We're growing again, and our hearts are so full,' the real estate agent concluded. Blackstock-Lee already shares a 3-year-old son with Lee, according to The couple announced their first pregnancy on Instagram in September 2021 with a nature-filled maternity shoot that showed Blackstock-Lee and her then-boyfriend wearing cowboy hats, per People. They welcomed their son on Jan. 17, 2022, according to an Instagram caption posted that same day. According to People, Blackstock-Lee and Lee tied the knot in September 2023. In addition to Savannah, Blackstock also shares a son named Seth with Ashworth, whom he was married to from 2001 to 2012. The talent manager then sparked a relationship with Clarkson, whom he shares two younger children with — an 11-year-old daughter, River Rose, and nine-year-old son, Remington 'Remy' Alexander. Blackstock and Clarkson separated in 2020 and finalized their divorce in 2022, according to People. In a statement shared by CBS News on Aug. 7, Blackstock's family said he died 'peacefully.' 'It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years,' the family wrote in the statement. 'He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time,' the family added. The statement came one day after Clarkson postponed the remainder of her August shows in Las Vegas. 'While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children's father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,' she wrote in an Instagram post, published Aug. 6. 'I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding,' she added at the time.
