Danny Dyer wants to play the next Doctor Who with a twist
It comes after it was confirmed that Ncuti Gatwa would be stepping away from Doctor Who, with Billie Piper expected to take on the role.
But Dyer hopes that one day he might get the chance to step into the TARDIS.

Speaking to The Mirror about Doctor Who, Dyer said: "It's such an iconic thing to do. It's almost – not on the same level – like James Bond. It's a character that's loved by so many.
"It gives you an opportunity with Doctor Who, because of the nature of the work, to bring something left-field, something a bit mental, a bit stylised, which I love. I love the idea of it."
Sharing what his doctor would be like, Dyer said: "Well, he would be an incredibly working-class Dr Who.
"Yeah, maybe a bit alpha. What I do, really. You've hired me for a reason - I don't think you'd want me to come in and play Doctor Who, you know, really posh."

Dyer added that maybe Doctor Who needs a bit of change with a working-class approach: "I don't think we've ever had a working-class Doctor Who, have we? Well, Jodie Whittaker, she brought a bit of that to it."
Despite his hope, Dyer said that he has never been approached to play the role, sharing: "I'll be honest, no one's ever approached me about it.
"But I see things now and again, my odds have been slashed to this, that and the other - it's definitely something I would consider."

The former cricketer and presenter said he will be "eternally grateful" to the team of healthcare professionals who treated him following his Top Gear crash in 2022 Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff has returned to the hospital where he was treated after his devastating Top Gear crash to thank the team of 'superheroes' who cared for him. The former cricketer and presenter, 47, suffered severe facial injuries when he flipped a three-wheel car whilst filming an episode of Top Gear in December 2022. He later revealed that he thought he 'was dead' and remembered being 'frightened to death'. Freddie was taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting, southwest London, where he underwent surgery and has since returned to the hospital. It comes after Top Gear host admitted he 'never got along' with Jeremy Clarkson as he made a bold statement. Upon Freddie's return to St George's, he said: "I just want to say a massive thank you to all the staff at St George's. I came here probably the lowest I've ever been, in need of help and the expertise, the love, the compassion they showed me was incredible." He added: "I'll be eternally grateful - absolute superheroes." Freddie met with maxillofacial surgeon Jahrad Haq, who was on call the day that the presenter came in with his injuries. Haq said: 'A lot of injuries are managed at a more junior level before escalating, so I knew this one was serious. Of all the trauma cases I've seen in over 20 years, this was among the most complex.' In the Disney+ documentary Flintoff, which came out earlier this year, the surgeon explained that Freddie's injuries included broken and lost teeth, and that elements of his upper jaw bone were fractured and displaced. Haq said that Freddie "lost a really significant portion of his upper lip - the skin and some of the underlying muscle - and also his lower lip'. Freddie, meanwhile, said he didn't think he would be able to get through the situation, explaining: "This sounds awful: part of me wishes I'd been killed. Part of me thinks 'I wish I had died.' I didn't want to kill myself. I don't want to mistake the two things. But I was thinking: 'This would have been so much easier.'" The sports star said his "biggest fear" was that he no longer had a face after he found himself being dragged along the track during the crash. He said: "I thought my face had come off. I was frightened to death." Following the crash, BBC Studios released a statement referring to an independent investigation held in 2023. It said: "[The review] found that while BBC Studios had complied with the required BBC policies and industry best practice in making the show, there were important learnings which would need to be rigorously applied to future Top Gear UK productions." Since the crash, Freddie has been working as a cricket coach for the England Lions, something which his family said has been vital to his recovery. His wife, Rachael, explained: "When Andrew needed it most, cricket was there for him… It sounds a bit weird saying it, a bit over the top to say, but I do think cricket saved him. It gave him a reason for being, again."

Rachel Riley famously met her now-husband when she competed on Strictly Come Dancing in 2013, but has now revealed why she would not go back to the dancefloor Rachel Riley has described her new reality TV show as being more 'real' than Strictly Come Dancing ever was. The Countdown star, 39, famously struck up a relationship with professional dancer Pasha Kovalev when she took part in the BBC competition in 2019, and they tied the knot six years later. But now that she can be seen on Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters on ITV, she has issued a damning comment about the dancing competition because at least she knew what to expect with her new venture. It comes after Strictly's Anton Du Beke shared heartbreak over wife's 'cruel and inexplicable' diagnosis. On Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters, Rachel is seen alongside the likes of Amandaland star Lucy Punch, Call the Midwife actress Helen George and comedian Lenny Henry amongst a host of others as they jet off to the Bahamas to face their fears and confront the sea predators, all upon the 50th anniversary of the cinematic classic Jaws. And Rachel was keen to note that she would rather face the great whites than head back to the dancefloor. During an appearance on Friday's Lorraine, stand-in host Christine Lampard said "You've said you'd rather swim with sharks than do Strictly again..." and Rachel replied: "This is kind of real, it's blue sky, blue sea, nature. You know what you're getting there. Strictly is just a whole level of other stuff. I'll take great whites over Strictly, for sure." Rachel, who shares Maven, five, and Noa, three, with Pasha, admitted that she couldn't bear the thought of telling her kids what she had signed up for because she didn't want them to have nightmares. Asked about her family's reaction, she said: "Pasha was jealous. My kids, they were two and four when I was doing it. I didn't want to scare them, I didn't want them to have dreams that I was being eaten by a shark. So I didn't tell them til I got there. And by the pool where we got our training, there were these Bull sharks, these scary, mean predators." But in the end, Rachel had nothing to worry about as her children seemed to be somewhat impressed when she video-called them from location, as she explained: "So I showed them these massive beasts and they said 'Are you going swimming with them mummy?' So it made me realise that we don't have an in-built fear of sharks." And for Rachel, who shot to fame when she replaced Carol Vorderman on Channel 4's Countdown, is even enjoying getting the chance to watch it all back, although she normally can't bear to watch herself on screen. She said: "I normally can't watch anything that I've been on back, but I can't get enough of this programme. It just brings back all the memories and it was the experience of as lifetime, the stuff we got to see, being in a shark sanctuary which is the whole of the Bahamas, it was just the trip of a lifetime." Rachel added: "It's not your typical reality TV where there's gratuitous tasks, it's not [about] winning. It's about learning about sharks and I was just intrigued and excited but Lucy [Punch] hated them. "She learned to love them and we learned why they're so important to our oceans. 100 million sharks are being taken every year through fishing practices and all kinds of reasons. "We need to preserve them. It's dispelling a lot of myths that things like Jaws brought about. They're not interested in is, we're not in their diet. Five or six people die every year from shark attacks, which if you compare it to, I think 500 die from elephants and we don't have that respect to preserve them."

Mat told the audience how all the cast and crew had become ''like a family'' working together on the show over 17 years and how his TV mum Alison Steadman who plays Pamela had become 'a surrogate mum'. He added: "In 2019 before the Christmas special - part one of the finale if you like - aired, I lost my mother and Alison really stepped up and she became my surrogate mother off screen as well. "Whenever she texts me even now she signs it 'Mum'. And that is cool. That is so beautiful. And she says 'How are you, my little prince?' It means the world to me." The final episode of the long-running series aired on Christmas Day last year, with 19.1 million viewers tuning in for the last instalment. Bryn did appear to allude to him and Jason lying together naked to keep warm as he said to Dave: 'We're going to have this out, once and for all, man to man, you may know what happened, David, but you don't know why it happened! It was freezing cold, it was! And when you are that cold…' Islands in the Stream - No one can ever forget the classic Karaoke performance of Islands in the Stream. Nessa and Bryn performed the track in front of all their nearest and dearest. It saw the whole pub burst into some line-dancing as they enjoyed a boozy night out. The Xmas special proposal - In 2019, fans were left overjoyed when the show made a comeback but it ended on the ultimate cliffhanger. Nessa asked Smithy if she would marry him as she finally laid bare her feelings for him. Fans were gutted as the show then cut straight to the credits as they never found out just how Smithy answered. Will all be revealed in the brand new episode? Nessa eventually accepted, paving the way for a registry office wedding in front of the show's most popular faces.
