Serial Killer Thriller Series ‘The Dark' From ITV Studios' Poison Pen Gets Green Light
The series is adapted by Matt Hartley based on GR Halliday's debut novel From the Shadows. Poison Pen was launched by Stephenson under ITV Studios' production banner in 2023.

When the body of a young man is found eerily staged in the idyllic Scottish wilderness, detective Monica Kennedy fears this is just the beginning of a terrifying campaign that will strike the heart of a rural community. 'As paranoia rises, suspicions and secrets are forced into the light, and the locals start to realise that there is a serial killer hidden amongst them,' a plot synopsis reads.
'With her experience of dealing with the darkest of humanity, Monica quickly becomes entangled in a heightened game of cat and mouse with a cunning killer,' it continued.
'But when her own history creeps up on her, she begins to lose trust in her own judgement. Will it be her own actions that are the biggest risk to herself and her family?'
ITV's director of drama Polly Hill greenlit the six-part show. 'The Dark is a compelling new drama which introduces the fearless DI Monica Kennedy, who has to try and catch a serial killer in this really chilling Scottish story,' said Hill. 'Matt's adaptation is brilliantly gripping and I am delighted to be adapting this novel with him and the team at Poison Pen.'
Stephenson added: 'The Dark is a gripping hide behind the sofa thriller with unguessable twists and a central character whose mysterious past gives her an extraordinary insight into a twisted killer as well as an overpowering empathy for those left in the killer's wake.'
Stephenson, Preethi Mavahalli, Luke Woellhaf and Fern McCauley will executive produce alongside Matt Hartley. Matt Brown will be producing the series, which also has Lena Rae and Nessah Muthy writing and Gilles Bannier as lead director and executive producer.
The Dark will commence filming in and around Glasgow during 2025 and is produced in association with ITV Studios, who will also distribute the series internationally.

Ryan Reynolds is set to reprise his role as Deadpool for the next Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) team-up movie, Avengers: Doomsday. Details on Reynolds' highly anticipated involvement in the next Avengers movie come from The Hollywood Reporter. Speculation that Deadpool could show up then caught fire when Reynolds teased his return just a few days ago. It's not much of a surprise to see Reynolds continue his run as Deadpool for Avengers: Doomsday. His portrayal of the potty-mouthed anti-hero made an official jump to the MCU with 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine. That's thanks to some multiverse shenanigans that saw him slicing through alternate universes with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. Deadpool spent much of the buddy comedy hoping to one day join the Avengers team. Even if he won't become an official Avenger, it seems like he may get a chance to meet Chris Hemsworth's Thor, Pedro Pascal's Mister Fantastic, or even Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom when Avengers: Doomsday comes to theaters December 18, 2026. If we're lucky, we'll also finally find out why a glimpse into another reality showed Thor crying over Deadpool on a battlefield. Other stars in Avengers: Doomsday's already stacked cast include Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, and many, many more. There's also Channing Tatum's Gambit, who made a splash when he finally made his big-screen debut in Deadpool & Studios has shared a lot about its next big-budget Avengers film, but it's clear there are so many surprises left to be revealed. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness star Xochitl Gomez is one name heavily rumored to make an appearance, though her inclusion hasn't been officially confirmed quite yet. We've also yet to learn how The Fantastic Four might find their way to the MCU universe fans have grown to know and love over the last 17 years. Coronation Street star Jack P. Shepherd was "really beat" by an elderly woman in a supermarket when he was just 12 years old. The 37-year-old actor - who has played David Platt in the ITV soap since 2000 - recalled going shopping with his mum Janet when they were accosted by an "old" lady, who was unimpressed by his soap alter ego, prompting his parent to intervene when she lashed out. Jack told his Coronation Street co-star Ben Price, 54, and his former soap colleague Colson Smith, 27, on the latest episode of their On the Sofa podcast: "I was recognised by an old woman in the freezer section. I was with my mum doing the big shop. "And [the woman] started to hit me with a handbag. "Before saying anything. She was so furious to see me. "I was just cheeky. So I'd have been 12. "[The woman] full on really beat me with a bag. "My mum went up [to the woman]. I think my mum kind of like half laughed it off and went, 'It's not real.'" Elsewhere in the podcast, Jack remembered he once faked being a Co-Op worker so police could stop die-hard Coronation Street fans from mobbing him. The soap star switched on the Christmas Lights in the West Yorkshire town of Kippax, and thousands of people turned up to see him kick off the festive celebrations Once the lights had been switched on, Jack recalled a "siege" of people rushing towards him, and he had to seek refuge in a nearby Co-Op supermarket. He said: "There was a sea of people [that] turned up to see a young David Platt. I must have been about 13, 14, something like that. Really young. "And I turned on their Christmas lights, and there was a siege. "They all started to head towards [me] and tried to climb on the stage. "They tried to get on, and I had to be escorted into the Co-Op. "[The Co-Op staff] had to lock the doors of the Co-Op. All the Co-Op workers were in there, and we couldn't get out because they surrounded the building. "I couldn't get out and go through the crowds because there were too many [fans]." Worried that Jack's safety was at risk, police escorted him out of Kippax. He dressed up as a Co-Op worker and hid his face to avoid being seen by a rush of fans, but his disguise did not work. Jack revealed: "Honestly, [there were] too many [fans]. We had to then get a police escort out of Kippax. "The police were called because I was a small child. "And police escorts had to arrive on motorbikes, and they had to put blue lights on, blue light me out. "I had the hat and I had the t-shirt. "I was going out, I was going out through the crowds, keeping my head down [as a] Co-Op worker. And I got into the car. "And I handed the hat back to one of the Co-Op workers. "And then [all the fans] turned like zombies. And they all went, 'He's there!' And they all ran towards me. "And I dived in the car. And the police had to blue light me out [of Kippax]. "And I remember physically watching the police on the bikes, and they were kicking people back. They were literally kicking people back."

How will the new Match of the Day work?
Match of the Day is back with a new presenting trio ready to bring insight, energy and entertainment to the Premier League season. The new campaign represents a bold new era for BBC Sport's flagship football show when it returns to screens live on BBC One and iPlayer on Saturday from 22:20 BST, with Sunday's show starting at 22:30 BST. Who are the new presenters? Match of the Day will be presented by Kelly Cates, Mark Chapman and Gabby Logan. The lead presenter role will be shared for the first time across Match of the Day and Match of the Day: Champions League - the latest addition to the BBC's football highlights portfolio. Cates has had a 27-year career in football with stints on all major broadcasters, including the BBC on Radio 5 Live. She previously hosted 606 with Ian Wright on Sundays. Cates, whose dad is former Liverpool and Scotland legend Sir Kenny Dalglish, has been presenting Premier League football for Sky Sports since 2017 and will continue to work for them. Chapman has been hosting MOTD2 for 12 years and also presents a range of sports programming on BBC Radio 5 Live, including the Monday Night Club and 606. He has hosted various sporting events for both BBC TV and radio. Chapman also presented Sky Sports' coverage of the Carabao Cup. Logan first joined the BBC in 2007 and has presented many sporting events, including men's and women's World Cups and European Championships, the Six Nations and Olympics. Since 2013, Logan has co-hosted BBC Sports Personality of the Year. The trio are the sixth set of main presenters for the weekly football highlights programme since it first aired in 1964. There have also been changes to the show too, with new augmented reality graphics in the studio and an updated title sequence. Who will present the first show and how will they rotate? The new presenters will rotate throughout the season, sharing equal billing on Saturday and Sunday's shows, and Match of the Day: Champions League on Wednesday. Their schedule may change throughout the season, with Logan presenting BBC Sport's coverage of the Rugby World Cup this autumn, as an example. The first show of the season will be hosted by Chapman with insight and analysis from Wayne Rooney and Alan Shearer in the studio. Logan will lead Sunday's highlights show with guests Joe Hart and Danny Murphy. Who are the pundits? As well as Rooney, Shearer, Hart and Murphy, fan favourites and returning stars include Micah Richards, Ashley Williams, Dion Dublin and Martin Keown. Ellen White, Nedum Onuoha, Steph Houghton, Theo Walcott, Shay Given and Stephen Warnock will also be on hand to impart their knowledge, energy and experience. Who decides the running order? The running order is decided by considering various factors: the number of goals, the importance of the result in the title race or relegation battle, any particularly controversial decisions, and the overall quality of the game. The MOTD programme editor has the final call on the running order the programme will follow, but they will take into account where we're at in the season. Early in the season, there is no particular urgency to reflect on the standings. So high-scoring games will generally become top picks to start the programme. Goalless draws will not normally sit at the top of the programme, but towards the end of the season that result could be more significant if it feeds into a story around the title race. How can I watch Premier League highlights from 8pm on BBC Sport? The BBC Sport website will feature highlights of every Premier League match during the 2025-26 season. These will be available on the BBC Sport app, website and iPlayer on Saturdays and Sundays - ordinarily from 8pm. If there is an evening match, highlights from all matches that day will be available 30 minutes after the final game of the day finishes. Highlights of weeknight matches will be published at 10.30pm. What other football will there on the BBC? Champions League highlights will continue to be available on BBC Sport from 10pm on a Wednesday. BBC Sport will continue to broadcast action from every stage of the FA Cup, as well as providing highlights and digital clips across the BBC Sport website, app and social media. There will be also digital highlights for every Women's Super League match on the Women's Football Show, as well as 21 live matches on the BBC. Alex Scott continues to present Football Focus, and you can get all the scores and reaction on Final Score with Jason Mohammad throughout the campaign. BBC Radio 5 Live will have commentaries from 209 Premier League games this season - more than any other UK broadcaster. In Scotland and Northern Ireland there is extensive live coverage of the Scottish Premiership and NIFL Premiership across the season.
