Teen driver killed three pals in horror crash weeks after passing test
A Brit teen has killed three of his pals in a horror crash just weeks after passing his driving test. Edward Spencer lost control of his Ford Fiesta while on his way home from school five weeks after passing his test. Harry Purcell, 17, Tilly Seccombe, 16 and Frank Wormald, 16, who were passengers in the car all died as a result of their injuries. A woman and two young children, who were travelling in another car, were seriously injured and continue to receive treatment for their life-changing injuries. On April 28 at Warwick Crown Court 19-year-old Spencer was sentenced for three counts of causing death by careless driving and three counts of causing serious injury by careless driving and sentenced to two years' detention. The teen changed his pleas to guilty in March having previously denied wrongdoing, as he was slammed by relatives of the injured children and two of those killed for an apparent lack of remorse, reports the Mirror . The crash occurred between Chipping Campden and Shipston -on-Stour in April 2023. Spencer had a history of speeding, 'showing off' and bad driving, the court heard. Judge Andrew Lockhart KC was told social media videos discovered after the crash had exposed a history of 'showing off, driving too quickly and failing to heed the warnings of those who were in the car with him'. It also emerged that Tilly had previously sent a Snapchat message to Spencer complaining about his driving but he had responded that she had 'underestimated' him. Passing sentence, the judge told Spencer his previous and habitual poor driving meant that there was a 'terrible inevitability' about the 'catastrophic' crash. The judge said of the social media evidence, including video of Spencer passing a mobility scooter at more than 50mph: 'It is disturbing material and it seriously aggravates the position you find yourself in. This is material that is indisputable, largely captured on video. There is here clear and crystal clear evidence of previous poor driving.' The crash was caused by a 'lethal combination' of grossly excessive speed and a failure to drive to the road conditions, the judge said. Warwickshire Police said the case showed the 'devastating consequences' that can occur if a car is driven carelessly. Speaking after Spencer had pleaded guilty in March, Inspector Michael Huntley, from the Warwickshire Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit, urged young people and their parents to consider the limitations of being a newly-qualified driver. He added: 'Drivers need to be aware of the devastating consequences that can occur if a car is driven carelessly. 'Edward Spencer had only passed his test five weeks prior to the collision and his careless actions cost the lives of three young people travelling in his car. Driving requires judgment and care, even more so when you lack experience. "As this tragic case shows, the consequences of careless driving can be devastating. So many lives have been ruined by this terrible incident. "I can't begin to imagine the pain this has caused, and our thoughts remain with the individuals and families affected. Edward Spencer will live with the consequences of his careless actions for the rest of his life, as will the families of all those involved.' Shortly after the crash, Chipping Campden School in Gloucestershire paid tribute to the students who lost their lives, who were all members of its sixth form.

Tragic mum, 31, 'stabbed to death by pupil' pictured for first time
A 14-year-old French schoolboy is facing 20 eyars in prison after allegedly stabbing a teaching assistant to death after she asked to search his bag for weapons. A young teaching assistant who was stabbed to death by a teenage pupil in a horror knife attack at a school in France has been pictured for the first time. Known only as Melanie G, the single mum and former hairdresser, was looking for concealed weapons alongside a police officer - in line with national education policy - at the gates of Françoise Dolto secondary school in Nogent-sur-Marne, near Paris when the horror unfolded around 8.30am on Tuesday, reports the Mirror. She had only started the job last year, giving up her career in hairdressing to spend more time with her little boy. French police say the 14-year-old schoolboy was tonight facing 20 years in prison after allegedly stabbing the 31-year-old teaching assistant to death after she asked to search his bag for knives. The incident followed a spate of school knife attacks in France, including one in April, when a teenage girl was stabbed to death and three others were wounded at a school in Nantes, in the west of the country. A source investigating the Nogent attack said: "The boy responsible was uninjured, after stabbing his victim multiple times. He was soon restrained by staff, and then arrested by the police officer present at the bag check." The source added: "One of the arresting officers suffered a slight cut to the hand." Referring to the alleged killer, the source said: "He is now in custody, and facing up to 20 years in prison if found guilty in a youth court of a deliberate killing." Local prosecutor Denis Devallois confirmed that a criminal enquiry had been launched into the killing, and that the perpetrator faced prison. The boy who cannot be named for legal reasons had been arrested twive from the school for disruptive behaviour, and was a student representative in the school's anti-bullying programme, claimed the source. Following today's killing, French President Emmanuel Macron described a "senseless wave of violence" in France. He added: "We all stand with [Melanie G.'s] family, her loved ones, her colleagues and the entire educational community. The nation is in mourning and the government is mobilised to reduce crime." Mélanie G. lived in Sarcey, around seven miles from Nogent, where she also worked as a municipal councillor. Paying tribute, her sister-in-law said: "She was funny, gentle, and very kind, and had one goal – to look after her child. She gave up hairdressing because she wanted more days off to be with him." Last month, France's Education Ministry announced that 958 bag checks in schools had resulted in the seizure of 94 knives across the country.

Madeleine McCann detectives 'sample clothes and bones found during search'
Madeleine McCann detectives 'sample clothes and bones found during search' A search was carried out by German and Portuguese detectives last week Search teams have been conducting new searches as part of an investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann (Image: PA ) Police are currently examining "clothes and bones" that were discovered during the recent search for Madeleine McCann, according to reports. Last Thursday saw the conclusion of a three-day operation by German and Portuguese detectives, who combed through a 120-acre area in Lagos, Portugal. This latest effort aimed to uncover fresh evidence against Christian Brueckner, the main suspect, took place roughly 30 miles from where Madeleine vanished in May 2007 at the age of three. Despite initial indications suggesting no new leads had emerged, it's now been reported that fragments of clothing and bones found at the site are set for analysis this week. The search, marking the first of its kind since 2023, involved intensive examination of the local terrain and derelict buildings, including an abandoned farmhouse. A source disclosed to Berlin Morning Post: "Several objects have apparently been discovered, which are now being examined in more detail by the police in the laboratory," reports the Mirror. "As Portuguese media report, clothing debris and bones were found, among other things. "The investigators have not officially commented on whether the finds could have anything to do with Madeleine's disappearance but that is clearly their hope." A search team close to Praia De Luz in Portugal (Image: PA Wire/PA Images ) Article continues below Christian Brueckner, currently serving a prison sentence for raping a 72 year old woman in Praia da Luz in 2005, reportedly sent a letter to the police regarding the Madeleine McCann case, stating "decisive questions can never be answered". The note, which German media have seen, suggests a series of questions that could potentially link him to the disappearance of the three year old girl. In his letter, Brueckner wrote: "It is the important questions, the decisive questions that can never be answered. "Was I or my vehicle clearly seen near the crime scene on the night of the crime? Is there DNA evidence of me at the crime scene? "Are there DNA traces of the injured party in my vehicle? Are there other traces/DNA carriers of the injured party in my possession? Photos? And, don't forget, is there a body/corpse? All no, no no." The date of the letter's composition remains unclear. Meanwhile, a new documentary has revealed unsettling findings from an old warehouse once owned by Brueckner in Neuwegersleben, Germany. Article continues below The Sun reports that during a search of the premises, police found over 70 children's swimsuits, a toddler's bike, inflatable toys, and a collection of images stored on an 80GB hard drive, allegedly taken in Portugal. They also discovered a laptop, masks, guns, and a handwritten story about drugging and abducting a woman and child from outside a preschool.
