Victim's brother appeals for help after 2 tourists found shot in Miami parking garage
The victims, identified as 35-year-old Chastidy Charlotte Rodriguez of New York City and 31-year-old Darious Coon of Detroit, were discovered last Saturday around 10 a.m. on the 10th floor of a parking garage near Northeast 4th Street and 2nd Avenue, just west of Biscayne Boulevard and Bayfront Park.
According to Miami Police, both had been shot several times. Investigators believe the pair had only recently met while visiting Miami.
Rodriguez's brother, who spoke to CBS News Miami on condition of anonymity, described his sister as kind-hearted and devoted.
"She was a good person and a good mother. Everyone around her would tell you she has a good heart," he said.
Determined to seek justice, he added, "We don't want this to be another case. We want justice. She did not deserve to go out this way. We hope that the detective will find the person guilty of this, or maybe if it was more than one person, all of them will face the consequences of justice."
He also expressed the family's need for clarity about what happened: "We hope to know the motive because it is not fair to us to not know why someone did this and why she had to leave us so early in life."
Miami Police spokesperson Officer Mike Vega said the department had been alerted that the victims were missing prior to their discovery. The investigation began after someone reported a foul odor coming from the vehicle.
Vega said it's possible the bodies had been in the car since the prior Wednesday. "This is a 3 to 4-day investigation and it does not appear to be a robbery because both people in the vehicle still had their belongings with them," he noted.
"We need anyone who was near the parking lot between the 16th and 19th and who heard any shots being fired or observed anything weird or suspicious to contact us," Vega said.
He added that detectives are combing through several days of surveillance footage: "We have 3 or 4 days' worth of video to go through frame by frame to see when the car entered the building and parked there. We are looking at a lot of surveillance video."

Vancouver police are asking for public help as they continue to look into the stabbing death of a Surrey, B.C., man two years ago. Jose Kaze, 32, was stabbed on Granville Street between Smithe and Nelson streets just before 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 4, 2023. Just over two years later, police say they believe there are witnesses to the crime who have yet to come forward. This is somebody's son. This is somebody's partner," he said. "We need you to do the right thing and come forward and share the information," he added. "A little piece of information could put this investigation into full gear, and we can hold the person accountable who did this." Doucette said police have been in touch with Kaze's family over the last two years, and victim support services are available for anyone who was "living with something that [they] saw for the last couple of years." He's asking anyone with more information, including anyone driving by that day in August 2023, to come forward to police. "There would have been an altercation. You would have seen lots of emergency vehicles. Any little bit of information could help us break this case," Doucette said.

Man caught on video repeatedly exposing himself outside Liberty City home, landlord says
A Liberty City landlord is raising alarm after surveillance cameras captured a man repeatedly exposing and touching himself outside a home she rents to a mother and her daughters. The disturbing behavior has allegedly been happening for nearly a year, and the most recent incident occurred early Wednesday morning. "It's not the first time he's done it," said the landlord, who identified herself only as Rose. Rose said the man has been seen on video touching himself outside a bedroom window of the home on Northwest 58th Terrace. Her surveillance system, which alerts her to movement in the yard, has captured multiple incidents—including the one that happened around 2 a.m. Wednesday. "When I came out and I confronted him, I was like, 'Yo, are you the guy that keeps (explicit) off—I mean, relieving yourself under this window?' And he was like, 'No, that's the kid, he went that way.' I'm like, how specific that you know what I'm talking about. I was like, you're wearing the same outfit from the video," Rose said. The man's repeated visits have left Rose concerned about how far he's willing to go—even with full knowledge that cameras are rolling. "He knows that this property has multiple cameras in every angle, but he still comes between 10 p.m. to a little over 2 in the morning. What is he doing to the houses that don't have cameras?" she said. Rose also recalled catching the man jumping the fence to the side of the house during a separate incident, heightening her fear for the tenants' safety. The City of Miami Police Department confirmed it is investigating the matter and said officers canvassed the area after the latest report but were unable to locate the suspect. Former Gateway Church elders seek removal from defamation suit
Three former Gateway Church elders who church leaders said were aware of details involving the alleged sexual abuse by founding Pastor Robert Morris have asked to be removed from a civil suit in Dallas County. Gayland Lawshe, Jeremy Carasco and Thomas Miller have all filed motions in the defamation suit brought by Cindy Clemishire, the now-adult woman who said she was sexually assaulted by Morris four decades ago. The suit argues that Morris, along with his wife, Debbie, the church, and a group of former and current elders and staff, put out false statements as part of an effort to cover up what happened. In his filing posted Monday, Miller argued any statements he made "were without actual malice (i.e., in good faith)." "Specifically, the statements were made in the course of an investigation after a report an employee wrongdoing and updating the congregation," Miller argued. Last month, District Court Judge Emily Tobolowsky set trial in the case for June 2026. In his petition to the court, former elder Carasco argued that he did nothing to defame Clemishire. "Defendant denies that he made any defamatory publications whatsoever concerning plaintiffs," the filing said. "Alternatively, to the extent any statement made by defendant is alleged by plaintiffs to have been defamatory, any such statement was: true, substantially true ... (and) made without malice or neglect." Morris heads back to court Sept. 4 in Oklahoma, where he was indicted on five counts of lewd or indecent acts with a child. The Oklahoma attorney general has argued the statute of limitations does not apply since Morris was not a resident of the state at the time of the alleged crimes. Retirement dispute continues in Texas In Tarrant County, a dispute between the church and Morris over his multi-million-dollar retirement package continues. A hearing is set on that case for Sept. 17.
