"Kembara Sains Borneo" Brings PSN Closer To Schools In Sabah, Sarawak
PSN director Mohammad Fuad Rahman said the exhibition bus, known as PSN Trooperz On The Move, is equipped with 20 interactive exhibition spaces specially designed to spark students' interest in science.
"This initiative provides an opportunity for students who may not have the chance to visit the National Science Centre in the capital to experience it firsthand through the mobile exhibition brought directly to their location," he told reporters after the launch of the 2025 National Science Week programme here last night.
He said the main focus of KSB is to bring students in remote and rural areas closer to the National Science Centre.
"The selection of schools for the programme includes those in urban, rural, and interior areas, while participating students will range from primary to secondary school levels.
'For this KSB, we are not moving alone. We are collaborating with strategic partners, namely the National Planetarium, Akademik Sains Malaysia, Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia, and Petrosains,' he added.
He said KSB does not solely focus on students but also engages Science and Mathematics teachers through dedicated training programmes designed to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), two flagship outreach programmes, the Kembara Sains Borneo dan Rehlah Sains, will be key highlights under the 2025 National Science Week initiative.
These initiatives are part of MOSTI's strategic efforts to ensure the benefits of making science, technology, and innovation (STI) a culture reach all layers of society, including rural, suburban, and remote communities.

Addressing nuclear energy misconceptions key for Malaysia's growth
KOTA KINABALU: Public misconceptions about nuclear technology must be tackled to ensure Malaysia's sustainable energy future. Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Mohammad Yusof Apdal stressed the need for collective efforts to build public trust. He said reshaping perceptions requires inclusive communication backed by scientific evidence. 'Public perception remains a major challenge despite the well-documented benefits of nuclear technology,' he said. Mohammad Yusof spoke at the 28th Radiation Protection Conference and Workshop 2025. He noted MOSTI's efforts in raising awareness through the Malaysian Nuclear Agency and Atom Malaysia. 'A holistic approach will help the public see nuclear tech as a national asset if managed safely,' he added. He highlighted the unavoidable use of radiation in medical, agricultural, and industrial sectors. 'Radiation protection is crucial to prevent risks to health and the environment,' he emphasised. The conference theme focused on balancing energy security with radiation safety. Mohammad Yusof linked the event to Malaysia's 13MP goals for high-value industry growth. 'Nuclear energy is seen as clean and safe, with radiation safety as the top priority,' he said. Over 100 participants attended, including experts and policymakers. Malaysia advances peaceful nuclear tech with CTBT commitment
PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia's dedication to peaceful nuclear technology development remains steadfast under the National Nuclear Technology Policy 2030. The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) ensures the technology is harnessed safely and responsibly for public benefit. The Malaysian Nuclear Agency (Nuklear Malaysia) highlighted this commitment in a statement today, referencing the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT). Malaysia signed the CTBT on July 23, 1998, and ratified it on January 17, 2008. Nuklear Malaysia operates two key CTBT facilities: the Radionuclide Monitoring Station RN42 in Cameron Highlands and the CTBT National Data Centre (MY-NDC) in Bangi. These stations detect radionuclides from nuclear explosions globally while supplying seismic and hydroacoustic data for scientific research. The facilities also support Malaysia's National Tsunami Early Warning System. The CTBTO Preparatory Commission acknowledged Malaysia's active role, evidenced by executive secretary Dr Robert Floyd's visit from August 13 to 18. Floyd inspected RN42 and MY-NDC and discussed CTBT capacity-building with MOSTI officials. He also engaged with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on nuclear disarmament and global peace efforts. Nuklear Malaysia hosted a National CTBT Colloquium to educate stakeholders on the treaty's benefits for security and research. - Bernama

MOSTI outlines three key strategies for FOM to empower MPs
KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) has outlined three key strategies for its Friends of Ministry (FOM) initiative. These strategies aim to involve backbench MPs in promoting science, technology, and innovation (STI) culture in their constituencies. According to MOSTI, the initiative is driven by the MADANI Government Backbenchers Club to enhance policy communication. Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang stated that the FOM will strengthen grassroots engagement. He added that the MPs' involvement will help deliver STI agendas more effectively to all societal segments. The FOM includes MPs such as Ngeh Koo Ham (PH-Beruas) and Vivian Wong Shir Yee (PH-Sandakan). Other members are Chow Yu Hui (PH-Raub), Lee Chuan How (PH-Ipoh Timor), and Yeo Bee Yin (PH-Puchong). The list also features Chow Kon Yeow (PH-Batu Kawan) and Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah (BN-Paya Besar). Additional FOM members include Rodziah Ismail (PKR-Ampang) and Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari (PKR-Sungai Petani). Rodiyah Sapiee (GPS-Batang Sadong) and Azli Yusof (PH-Shah Alam) are also part of the initiative. Warisan's Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis (Kota Belud) and PBM's Larry Soon (Julau) complete the FOM lineup. One strategy involves MPs participating in MOSTI's flagship programmes like STI 100³ and STI MADANI. Another includes regular policy briefings during parliamentary sessions on legislation and challenges. These briefings will cover updates to the National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy (DSTIN) 2024-2030. The discussions will also address the drafting of the STI Bill and amendments to the Atomic Energy Bill. The third strategy assigns each FOM member as a focal MP for a specific agency under MOSTI. This approach ensures targeted engagement and policy dissemination at the grassroots level. - Bernama
