Morecambe FC unveil Ashvir Singh Johal as new manager
The appointment comes just two days after the club was bought by the Panjab Warriors group, after two year protracted sale process .
After confirming the takeover, the first action of the Shrimps' new owners was to part ways with manager Derek Adams.
Who is Ashvir Singh Johal?
Adams, 50, was in his third stint in charge of the National League club having been appointed in June 2024.
A Morecambe statement said the club gave "its sincere gratitude" to Adams for the "leadership and steadiness he brought to the club" throughout a "testing chapter".
Just hours after confirming Adams' departure, the club confirmed Ashvir Singh Johal as the club's new manager.
The 30-year old from Leicester has coached at Leicester City, Wigan and Como, and claims to be one of the youngest UEFA Pro Licence holders in Europe.
In an interview released by the club on Twitter on Tuesday, he said he's proud to take up the role.
In a statement released on the club's website, Morecambe FC said:
"Morecambe Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Ashvir Singh Johal as the Club's new First Team Manager.
"He arrives at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium with an excellent reputation as a forward-thinking coach and leader, bringing with him a wealth of experience in player development, tactical innovation, and building high-performance cultures.
"Ashvir spent 10 years at Leicester City, coaching players in the academy setup from U7s all the way through to U18s, during that time Leicester City went through their most successful period as a football club.
"His first experience at first team coaching came when he joined Wigan Athletic in 2022 as first-team coach in the Championship.
"In June 2025, at 30 years old, he completed his UEFA Pro Licence with the FA, the highest qualification in management and football coaching.
"His appointment marks an exciting new era for the Shrimps as the Club continues its journey under fresh ownership and renewed ambition.
"Ashvir takes charge with immediate effect and will begin preparations for the upcoming season.
"Morecambe FC would like to extend a warm welcome to Ashvir and wishes him every success in his new role.
It was announced on Sunday that Bond Group had sold its majority shareholding to the investment company, after the club had been up for sale for almost three years.
Also on Monday afternoon, staff were paid outstanding wages for June.

But their club-saving takeover has come with an unexpected start, the dismissal of a loyal manager and the appointment of highly-rated prospect with no prior professional managerial experience. Popular figure Derek Adams was sacked by the new owners on Monday, just 73 minutes after the takeover was confirmed. Morecambe cited "a strategic transition in leadership" in their statement announcing his dismissal, sparking outrage from Shrimps supporters who hold the manager in high regard. GETTING HIS START Singh Johal began his journey into football coaching when he was just 16 years old, completing his FA Level 1 course at the same age that most people are completing their GCSEs. A teenager with a dream of one day being a manager, Singh Johal spent his time teaching PE lessons and laying out cones to earn his stripes. From there he began volunteering at Leicester City, starting with coaching in schools and community centres before entering the academy pathway with the U7s and building up to the U18s. Singh Johal balanced that role with his A-Levels, going to school from 9am to 4pm, before starting his coaching at 6pm and heading home to revise afterwards. Balancing his A-Levels became balancing his university work as Singh Johal spent eight years with the Foxes, taking his voluntary role to a part-time role and then finally a permanent position. 7 Singh Johal earned a full-time role at Leicester City Credit: Getty LEARNING FROM THE BEST After grinding with Leicester, Singh Johal earned himself a position as Assistant Coach to Kolo Toure at Wigan Athletic - his first role as a first team coach in the Championship at just 27 years old. Although Toure's time in charge of the Latics was short-lived and unsuccessful, Singh Johal has claimed he learnt plenty from the Arsenal Invincible. He previously said: "Kolo taught me a lot — about leadership, professionalism, and valuing people. "He led with calm, clarity, and humility, and created an environment where people felt seen and supported. I learned a great deal — not just about the game, but about how to lead with purpose and consistency." After leaving Wigan, Singh Johal landed himself another job working under a different Arsenal icon. This time he joined Cesc Fabergas in Italy at Como, earning the role of assistant manager of Como's Primavera team. On working so close to Fabregas, Singh Johal said: "Cesc showed incredible clarity, hunger and conviction in how he wanted his team to play — every day was so detailed. "His belief in his leadership style and methodology, win, lose or draw, taught me so much about consistency and identity. "I'm grateful to both Kolo and Cesc for their trust and guidance during such a key stage in their coaching journeys. Upon returning to English football he became the manager of Notts County's B-team, a side that develops talent between the academy and the first team. The up and comer has claimed his time with the club has been a "key step" in his journey. Earlier this summer he became one of the youngest coaches in the history of English football to complete his Uefa Pro Licence qualification - graduating as part of the same cohort as ex England and Arsenal star Jack Wilshere. That was just over a month ago, and now he embarks on his first job in professional management after landing his National League gig with Morecambe. As well as being the youngest boss in all of England's top five leagues, Singh Johal becomes the first Sikh to take charge of a professional club in the UK. Speaking on his journey and finally reaching his ambition of becoming a professional manager, Singh Johal said: "All in all, I've had a lot of good experiences that have made me ready for this opportunity. "I've been working hard for the last five or six years. I've known I wanted to be a manager. "How do I learn from the right people? How do I be around the right environments? So that when I get the opportunity to be a manager, I'm successful from the start. "For me that is the priority. Okay, this is about Morecambe Football Club, it's about building a team that can perform on the pitch. That's our priority this season." Adding: "It's what I've wanted to do, it's been my dream since I was 14 or 15 years old. Every single day that has been the target I have worked towards. "But for me now, there's a new target. Morecambe make Ashvir Singh Johal the first Sikh to manage a professional British club
Morecambe have appointed Ashvir Singh Johal as their new manager, making him the first Sikh to manage a professional British club, as well as the youngest manager in the top five tiers of English football. The 30-year-old was confirmed in the role on Tuesday, 48 hours after the investment group Panjab Warriors completed its takeover of the National League side. Morecambe had come within days of being expelled from league competition and Johal said he hoped to play a part in ensuring such a situation 'never happens again'. 'I'm extremely proud to be the manager of Morecambe Football Club and I can't wait to meet the fans and show them what an exciting team we can build that represents them and the town on the pitch', Johal said. 'The short term plan this year is to make sure that we retain our place in the National League by playing exciting energetic football and working hard. We want to make sure that the situation that happened in Morecambe over the last couple of years never happens again because no club, no town, no people deserve that.' Johal has never held a first-team managerial role before but has built an impressive CV since beginning as a teenage coach in Leicester City's schools programme. After rising to take full-time charge of the Foxes' under-18 side, he followed Kolo Touré to Wigan as his assistant, then to Como where he worked alongside Cesc Fàbregas during the Spaniard's season in charge of the club's Primavera side. Last year Johal was the manager of Notts County's B team while also becoming one of the youngest coaches to complete their Uefa Pro Licence. 'All in all I have had a number of good experiences,' Johal said, 'and I've been working hard for past five or six years to be around the right environments so that when I get the opportunity to be a manager I'm successful from the start. '[Being a manager] has been my dream since the age of 14, 15. It's been my target. Now I have a new target to make Morecambe successful as a club. I want to make sure that this year we don't just survive, we thrive, and that there are moments in games where we dominate. I want to make sure the fans have a team that thrives in games.' Johal has long been the preferred managerial candidate for Panjab Warriors with the BBC reporting that the group had agreed to appoint him before a takeover deal had been completed and with Derek Adams still in place as manager. Adams was relieved of his responsibilities on Monday. Morecambe had been suspended from competition in the National League while the takeover was incomplete. That suspension is now lifted, but the club are believed to have insufficient players on their books to compete and it is likely that their scheduled match against Altrincham this weekend is postponed.
