China heightens military activity around Taiwan
Of the 10 sorties, eight entered Taiwan's northern and southwestern ADIZ (Air Defence Identification Zone).
In a post on X, Taiwan's MND said, '10 sorties of PLA aircraft and 7 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. (UTC 8) today. 8 out of 10 sorties entered Taiwan's northern and southwestern ADIZ. We have monitored the situation and responded accordingly.'
Earlier on Wednesday, 43 sorties of PLA aircraft and 6 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected in the region.

Meanwhile, three Taiwanese non-governmental organisations participated in a tabletop exercise on Tuesday that simulated dramatic escalations in Chinese military activity near Taiwan in 2030, including Chinese naval ships invading Taiwan's territorial seas, according to a Focus Taiwan report.
Focus Taiwan reported that the two-day exercise, which focused primarily on China's "grey zone" coercive actions that fall short of open conflict, was jointly hosted by the Taipei School of Economics and Political Science Foundation, an educational foundation; the Taipei-based think tank Centre for Peace and Security; and the Council on Strategic and Wargaming Studies (CSWS), a research institute.
Several former defence officials attended the event, including former Chief of the General Staff Lee Hsi-min, retired US Navy Admiral Michael Mullen, former US Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair, former Japanese Chief of Staff of the Joint Staff Shigeru Iwasaki, and former Chief of Staff of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Tomohisa Takei, according to a Focus Taiwan report.

Union Cabinet approves 2 semiconductor projects worth Rs 4,009cr for Odisha
Bhubaneswar: Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved two major semiconductor manufacturing units worth Rs 4,009 crore for Odisha. The two projects, to be set up in Bhubaneswar's Info Valley, will generate thousands of high-skilled jobs, catalyse electronics manufacturing and help place Odisha on the global semiconductor map, sources said. The two manufacturing units will be built by SiCSem and 3D Glass. Given the growing demand for semiconductors in telecom, automotive, data centres, consumer electronics and industrial electronics, the newly approved projects will significantly contribute to creating an ' Atmanirbhar Bharat ', official sources said. Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Cabinet's approval, chief minister Mohan Majhi said in an X post, "The recent amendment of the Odisha Semiconductor Manufacturing and Fabless Policy, aimed at enhancing investment viability, competitiveness, and sustainability, together with this significant Cabinet approval, marks a major milestone in the state's industrial and technological advancement. I look forward to continued partnership between the state and central govts to further this strategic initiative for the comprehensive development of Odisha and the nation." SiCSem Pvt Ltd, in collaboration with UK-based Clas-SiC Wafer Fab Ltd, will set up India's first commercial compound semiconductor fabrication facility here. The plant will manufacture silicon carbide (SiC) devices, known for their efficiency in high-power applications, with an annual capacity of 60,000 wafers and 96 million packaged units. The SiC devices will have applications across critical sectors, including missiles, defence equipment, electric vehicles (EVs), railway, fast chargers, data centre racks, consumer appliances and solar power inverters. The facility is expected to give India a strategic edge in producing next-generation power electronics domestically. The second project, by US-headquartered 3D Glass Solutions Inc (3DGS), will introduce the world's most advanced semiconductor packaging technology. The unit will manufacture glass interposers, silicon bridges and 3D heterogeneous integration (3DHI) modules. The component are crucial for miniaturisation, high performance and energy efficiency in electronics. With a planned capacity of about 69,600 glass panel substrates, 50 million assembled units, and 13,200 3DHI modules annually, the facility will cater to applications in defence, high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, RF and automotive electronics, photonics and co-packaged optics. Officials said the two projects will not only bring cutting-edge technology to Odisha but also create a ripple effect in the state's electronics ecosystem, encouraging ancillary industries and boosting technical skill development. Apart from two Odisha projects, the Cabinet also approved one project each for Punjab and Andhra Pradesh under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan hailed the Cabinet's decision to set up the two units in Odisha. He said the decision is a pivotal moment for the state, emphasising its potential to create jobs and generate substantial revenue. Pradhan expressed his gratitude to the PM and highlighted that this move marks a new chapter in the 'Purvodaya' mission. Punjab: YouTuber quizzed by central agencies over 2024 Pak visit
The central intelligence agencies questioned a Jalandhar-based travel vlogger over his alleged visits to Pakistan a few months ago. The travel vlogger had uploaded multiple videos related to his Pakistan visit on his YouTube Channel. (HT File) Amrik Singh, a resident of Turna village in Jalandhar district, was summoned by Jalandhar rural police to visit Lohian police station on Monday evening, where he was questioned for more than 20 hours. He was released on Tuesday evening. Deputy inspector general of police (DIG) Naveen Singla confirmed the development and said, 'The social media influencer was questioned over his visit to Pakistan around eight months back.' Shahkot's deputy superintendent of police, Onkar Singh Brar, said 'central agencies' questioned the YouTuber, and the local police don't have any details about the questioning. 'He has been released. We have informed the village panchayat to take Amrik back from the police station,' he said. Amrik had uploaded multiple videos related to his Pakistan visit on his YouTube Channel. Amrik's wife, Manpreet Kaur, said her husband was summoned in connection with their December 2024 trip to Pakistan during which they filmed videos covering Sikh religious sites and other human interest stories, and uploaded the same on their YouTube channel. 'My husband's phone remained unreachable for nearly a day after he went to the Lohian police station to record his statement,' she said.

Who is Jimmy Chérizier? The Haitian gang leader US wants to arrest
A federal grand jury has indicted one of Haiti's most powerful gang leaders and a US citizen accused of conspiring with him to violate US sanctions and fund gang activities in the troubled Caribbean country, the US Justice Department announced Chrizier, best known as 'Barbecue,' is a leader of a gang federation called Viv Ansanm that the US designated as a foreign terrorist organisation in lives in Haiti, and the US is offering up to $5 million for information leading to his arrest or conviction. Chris Landberg, a senior US State Department official, said Chrizier's 'reign of terror and mass violence against Haiti must end.'But Jake Johnston, author of 'Aid State' and international research director at the Washington-based Center for Economic and Policy Research, questioned the government's reason for offering a bounty.'This is a guy who is giving international media interviews regularly. I don't think the issue is being able to find him,' Johnston said, adding that the indictment doesn't represent a threat to Chrizier since he lives in Haiti. 'It's hard to see how it'll have much of an effect.'A POLICEMAN TURNED GANG LEADER Chrizier is a former elite police officer who was fired in December 2018 and was later accused of organizing large-scale massacres in the slums of Grand Ravine in 2017, in La Saline in 2018 and in Bel-Air in 2019. More than 100 people were killed in the massacres, which Chrizier has denied organizing.'Haiti is a hotspot right now there is incredible violence going on there,' US Attorney Jeanine Pirro said Tuesday, calling La Saline killings 'notorious because (Chrizier) both planned and participated' in the June 2020, Chrizier created the ' G9 Family and Allies,' an alliance that grew from nine gangs in lower Delmas and the Cite Soleil and La Saline slums to include more than a dozen gangs, according to a U.N. Security Council alliance was blamed for the killings of some 145 people in Cite Soleil and the rape of multiple December 2020, the US Treasury Department issued civil sanctions against Chrizier and others accused of being involved in the G-9 alliance later became part of the Viv Ansanm gang federation created in September 2023 that saw the merging of Haiti's two biggest gangs that were once bitter enemies: G-9 and G- then, the federation has taken control of 90% of Port-au-Prince. Part of the plan was to have 1,000 individuals give $20 each or 1 million Haitians abroad give $1 each, as well as collect money from 1,000 people for each of Haiti's 10 regions, according to the indictment.'With this money, they can buy pick-up trucks, weapons, ammunition, clothing to include T-shirts, boots and hats.
