Specialised centre for diabetes care & research to come up at GTB hospital
Officials said the Delhi government is planning to set up a specialised centre that will promote yoga, lifestyle changes and dietary modifications in managing diabetes and conduct research on the lifestyle disease.
The proposed centre will be an autonomous institute offering specialised care for economically weaker sections and will extend the existing Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital.
The project, with a financial implication of Rs 17 crore, has already been recommended by a committee constituted by the Department of Health and Family Welfare and is currently awaiting Cabinet approval.
An official said the new centre will provide advanced care to patients suffering from diabetes and endocrine disorders.
He further said that once approved, the facility will be the first of its kind in the government sector across the country, offering state-of-the-art treatment and referral services to underprivileged patients.
A proposal prepared by the Health Department will be presented to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta for approval.
'The creation of an institute of excellence in this field will add substantial value to the healthcare services provided by the Delhi government through its hospitals by offering world-class referral services in a critically important area,' the proposal reads.

Infosys Foundation funds free maternal, child healthcare
BENGALURU: Infosys Foundation, the CSR arm of Infosys, on Wednesday announced a partnership with Prashanthi Balamandira Trust, an organisation that provides education, healthcare, nutrition, and community service free of charge in Karnataka, to support free medical services for women and children in rural Karnataka. The foundation will provide a grant of over Rs 48 crore to Sri Sathya Sai Sarla Memorial Hospital in Chikkaballapur, which functions under the Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (SMSIMSR). The funds will be used to improve healthcare facilities, especially in areas related to maternal and child care. The hospital will offer services such as maternity care, pediatric treatment, gynaecological procedures, and heart-related interventions and surgeries for children. All services will be provided free of cost. Sri Madhusudan Sai, founder of SMSIMSR and trustee of the Prashanthi Balamandira Trust, said the support from Infosys Foundation will help improve services for women and children, who otherwise struggle to access quality healthcare. He added that the hospital, as a teaching institution, will use the new facilities to train medical and nursing students. Infosys Foundation trustee Sunil Kumar Dhareshwar said the aim is to make essential healthcare available to people who cannot afford it.

Family of Sigachi blast victim alleges high hospital bill for relative's treatment
SANGAREDDY: Amidst the scenes of grief following the tragedy, it's business as usual for hospitals. Munmun Chowhan, a worker from Madhya Pradesh employed at the Sigachi factory, sustained critical burn injuries in the blast and was admitted to Dhruva Hospital in Patancheru for treatment. On learning of Chowhan's condition, his father-in-law, Birender Chowdhary, travelled to see him. However, upon seeing his severely injured son-in-law, Birender Chowdhary developed high blood pressure and fell ill. He was admitted to the same hospital. The family expressed concern over the hospital bill for Birender Chowdhary's treatment. The hospital reportedly charged them Rs 1 lakh for one night. 'So far we have paid Rs 70,000. We do not know how we will pay the remaining amount,' said Sonu Chowdhary, Birender's son. Meanwhile Dhruva Hospital manager A Pramod told TNIE that there was no truth in the claim, saying that Chowdhary was billed Rs 40,000 for the overnight stay and another Rs 15,000 for medicines.
